A DEAL WITH THE DEVIL
Every second that Ellis sat with Alex,he regretted it " I should have walked away" he told himself , he's gut told him that sitting down with Alex Del Montiez was the worst he could make tonight or maybe ever . But there was something in the way the man watched him like he knew he was going to obey , like it wasn't of if but when . And maybe that's what pissed him off the more " I'm working" Ellis said shifting the tray in his hands like that gave him some authority . Alex didn't look impressed,he raised a single eyebrow swirling the whiskey his glass " And?" he said simply , Ellis blink what kind response was that?
" And that means I don't have the time to sit around and -" he was cut off " Sit" a single word,low, commanding and final . Ellis inhaled sharply, he's first instinct was to tell this man to fuck off. He wasn't the type to let people boss him around let alone some entitled mafia prince with a superiority complex but this was Alexander Del Montiez,he had to obey .
Ellis wasn't stupid, he's been in the city long enough to know that when a Del Montiez tells you to do something ,you had two choices : Do it or be prepared to face the consequences but something in the way Alex looked at him made he's blood boil " I'm working" Ellis said gripping his tray tighter hoping that he's words would help him escape whatever this was " So" he used that same tone " five minutes then I go back to work" Ellis said,he knew he had to be careful so he obeyed ,Alex smirked as if amused by his defiance " fair enough" he said , Ellis crossed his hands " Alright,you got me here, what do you want?" Alex took his time answering " I've been watching you". Ellis tensed but he forced himself to keep his expression neutral " yeah,I noticed"
" Your good at what you do" Alex said , Ellis frowned he wasn't sure what he expected but it wasn't a compliment "... Bartending?" A lazy smirk curled up at Alex's lips " Among other things" Ellis skin prickled,he didn't like the way Alex said that, like he saw something Alex didn't see himself , he's fingers drummed against the table " if this is some weird recruitment pitch, I'm not interested" Ellis said ,he chuckled " I don't recruit Ellis,I take" Alex said , something was wrong with this man Ellis scoffed forcing himself to play it cool " well, that's not how it works,you don't just decide things for people".
Alex studied him for a long moment then leaned in ,his voice dripping to something almost intimate " I always get what I want" he swallowed " And if I say NO" Alex tilted his head as if considering the possibility ,then a slow knowing smirk spread across his face " then I'll change your mind" be he could figure out what to say , a voice cut through the thick tension.
" Ellis"
The sound of his name brought him out of whatever trance he'd fallen into ,he turned to find William standing at the edge of the VIP section . Unlike his younger brother Alex, William didn't radiate danger like a loaded gun.He was composed ,steady ,the kind of man who could command a room without needing to lift a finger .
William's eyes flickered between him and Alex before settling on Ellis " everything okay?" he asked , Ellis opened his mouth to say something but Alex got there first " were having a conversation" he said Willy's jaw tightened " well ,I need Ellis back at the bar" he said , Alex exhaled through his nose, clearly annoyed " were not finished" Alex said " you are" William said he's voice final ,Ellis glanced between William and Alex,the tension so thick it made it hard to breathe what the hell was going on here? Whatever it was he wasn't about to get caught in the middle of it , Without another word, Ellis stood up and walked away as fast as he could with William trailing behind him. Even with the distance he could still feel the burning gaze of Alex behind him.
And something told him this was only the beginning.
