Chapter 1 - The First Meeting

The small town of Hanamura always carried the scent of spring, no matter the season. Perhaps it was the countless cherry blossom trees lining the streets, or maybe it was simply the way the wind carried a sense of warmth and familiarity. Kozakura Ren had lived here all his life, and though the town was quiet, it never felt lonely.

Stepping out of the bookstore, he adjusted his scarf against the crisp autumn air. A newly purchased novel was tucked safely under his arm—one of those slow, heartwarming stories that made the world feel a little softer. The wind chimes hanging outside the shop swayed gently, their delicate melody blending with the rustling of golden leaves.

Then, a small gasp caught his attention.

"Ah—!"

Before he could react, a figure stumbled forward, her arms flailing as a stack of books slipped from her grasp. Kozakura instinctively stepped in, catching the largest book just before it hit the pavement.

"Are you alright?" he asked, steadying her with his free hand.

She blinked up at him, startled. "Y-Yes! I just—oh no, my books!"

Kozakura knelt down and began gathering the scattered books. The girl hesitated, as if unsure whether to pick them up herself or apologize first. He handed her the largest one, offering a small nod.

"Here. That was a close call."

She let out a breath of relief. "Thank you so much. I didn't expect the wind to be so strong today."

He glanced up at the trees swaying gently. "It does sneak up on you sometimes."

She smiled, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. "I'm Sakuragi Hiyori. I just moved here last week."

"Kozakura Ren," he replied. "Welcome to Hanamura."

Hiyori looked around at the town's small streets and warmly lit shops. "It's really peaceful here. A bit different from the city, but in a good way."

He nodded. "You'll get used to it quickly. Everyone's friendly. And if you ever need a book recommendation, this bookstore is the best place to start."

Her eyes brightened. "You like books too?"

"I do," he admitted, glancing at his own book. "There's something comforting about them."

Hiyori clutched her stack of books a little tighter. "I feel the same way."

For a moment, they simply stood there, a quiet understanding passing between them. The wind rustled the leaves again, scattering a few golden ones at their feet.

Hiyori shifted the books in her arms. "Well, I should get these home before the wind tries to steal them again."

Kozakura hesitated for only a second before speaking. "Do you need any help carrying them?"

She looked surprised, then smiled—a small, grateful smile that warmed the crisp autumn air. "If it's not too much trouble."

"Not at all."

And just like that, they walked together down the peaceful streets of Hanamura, the scent of autumn and new beginnings all around them.
