Deep into the night, in a wooded area known as a Zone, the full moon blanketed a rocky clearing in bright light, so bright in fact that it illuminated the grizzly, macabre scenes within the clearing as a collection of people were being massacred by a group of creatures. Large, mutated canines the size of mules were circling and attacking the poorly armed and armoured people with the kind of ease and enjoyment that they almost appeared to be doing it for sport.
Â
"Hold on!" One of the men shouted, as he squeezed his sword and shield so tightly in his hands, that his palms were numb. "We only have to hold out until the Guild arrives!"
Â
Unfortunately, it didn't take long for that man's attempt to rally the survivors was rendered moot as one of the monsters rushed in from the side and clamped its jaws around his neck, the force of which snapped it instantly. Those who were not too busy screaming due to being ripped to shreds screamed in abject fear after watching the impromptu leader get killed instantly. As the chaos continued to ensue, the moon appeared to ripple a few times, before cracking and then splitting open. Nobody had the luxury of time to look up and see what was happening in the sky, however almost immediately after the moon split open, a small blue hue appeared from starry void before a beam of light shot out from the split. The beam careened towards a pile of corpses near a large, blood and claw mark laden boulder, and as it hit the pile, a shockwave pulsed out from it, sending not only the dead, but the living flying in all directions. As quickly as it all happened though, everything settled down before the living could react and investigate. The moon was sealed almost immediately, and the bodies all hit the floor simultaneously. As the monsters and their playthings struggled to their feet, the body in the corpse pile that was struck by the beam of light sat up gingerly.
Â
"…so this is my body in this Dimension." He said in an incredibly hoarse voice.
Â
The man sat with his eyes closed and tried his best to catch his breath, however a series of loud barks, snarls and a rather thunderous howl alerted him to the urgency of the situation. His eyes shot open, and quickly darted around, taking in as much information as they possibly could as quickly as they could.
Â
'What the fuck is going on here?' He thought to himself as he watched a dagger wielder get tossed in the air by a monster. 'I have to get away from all this.'
Â
Looking down at his own body and quickly trying to assess just how injured he was, he was once again reminded of just urgent the situation was as a woman's bloody body bounced towards, and dropped next to him with a particularly loud and wet squelch. This prompted him to stand up as quickly as his legs allowed him to – which was not all that quick to be honest – and hobble toward an outcrop of boulders with the intention of hiding, however it quickly became apparent that his wounds were rather severe. There was a numbing pain in his abdomen, neck and legs, and it wasn't long before he lost his footing and fell to his knees. As he did however, a number of men and women, clad in armour and clothing orders of magnitude superior to what he and his dying fellows were in burst into the clearing and began slaying the monsters with a level of ease that made him wonder why on earth they had even been left to take care of the monsters by themselves. Before those thoughts were allowed to fester, the pain suddenly spiked and the man let out a pained, blood soaked cough. Refusing to simply lose consciousness though, he channeled the pain as much as possible to stay awake for as long as he could, in order to observe the current developments.
Â
The people who had entered the Zone were adorned in medium and heavy armour, looking like Knights. The crest on their chests were illuminated, glowing bright blue, whilst their silver armour reflected the moonlight in a manner that almost made it brighter than it actually was. Amongst them all, there were two people who quickly caught his diminishing attention – a tall woman with a sword and shield in each arm, and a positively massive specimen of a man, wielding an equally massive greatsword. They were barking all manner of order which he couldn't quite make out whilst simultaneously obliterating any and all hostile creature. The Knights were not the only ones in the clearing though, as there were also a fair few people simply dressed in black suits and white shirts, running around carrying stretchers and other first aid kit. Their suit jackets had a crest on the breast pocket which was different to the one on the Knight's armour, and they were not concerned at all with combat. They were running towards the bodies to ascertain who was unconscious and who was dead – something that seemed to give the man comfort subconsciously as he felt his consciousness giving way to the pain and fatigue.
Â
As the body lay unconscious in a hospital bed, the original soul and the one that entered the body the night before were in a different space entirely. The space was dark, empty, and only had a floor with a chair, and a cage made from some kind of celestial energy.
Â
"So here we are." The new soul said, looking at the old soul floating in the cage.
Â
The old soul was completely silent, and the new one, which had taken the appearance of the body even in this space approached the old soul.
Â
"You don't have much time left. My name is Kumkani, although I shall be going by your name when I awake. I am you, from a different Dimension, and even if you had not have died, I would have taken over this body and consumed you. Usually, this process would involve something of a back and forth which would provide me with all the information I need regarding this world, but… I'll have to make do. The only reason why I've even taken the time to say all this is because I shall be absorbing, and using you as an energy source. You will not enter the cycle of reincarnation."
Â
The old soul suddenly started to grow restless within the cage, shaking violently and bouncing about, as if trying to emote just how much it disagreed with what was about to happen. This only drew a slight sigh from Kumkani, who pointed at the soul and after a second or two, a droplet of blood oozed out from his fingertip, after which he drew a Magic Circle with some kind of Sigil in the center. Moments later, the circle began to glow, generating suction so strong, it threatened to destroy the cage. What it did do though, was suck the old soul within the cage right into it, and in turn, into Kumkani's soul.
Â
"Forgive me." Kumkani said, without a lick of remorse. "For weak souls like you, stoking flames of intense emotion is the best way to increase your strength before consumption. You won't see what comes next, but take solace in the knowledge that your body will become the king of this world."
