Chapter 6 - Templar Order 2

'It seems I'm about to work under a superior who needs to be pampered like a kid...'

Ethan thought and sighed as he looked at Varian. Then, he left the room where Raizel was already waiting for him, but what annoyed him about Raizel was his gently swaying hair. It's not just hairs, but Ethan could feel a subtle, gentle air around the man.

"What is this air that can feel around you?" Ethan asked as he couldn't curb his curiosity anymore.

"You have good senses, Ethan. The air that you feel is because of my spiritual resonance. I'm a Wind elemental type Deviant. Don't worry, you will know everything step by step. But first, let's get you your weapon holster and official uniform color badge." Raizel said as he and Ethan came to the reception area.

Ethan followed Raiel to another room where a brown-haired middle-aged lady was sitting behind the table with an old typewriter placed on top of it.

"Raizel! Good morning," she greeted the man as she noticed his arrival. She also observed Ethan who stood behind him.

"Good morning, Miss. Lana. We have a new member on our team now, Ethan Holmes. He has similar circumstances to you" Raizel greeted her back and then introduced Ethan.

"Good morning, Mam." Ethan greeted the lady. Thanks to his more detailed medication compared to the children of poor strata, he had a decent knowledge of etiquette.

"Oh my, I'm sorry for your loss, Ethan. I can sympathize with you how it feels to lose your loved one to those cultist lunatics." Lana muttered in a soft and gentle tone laced with lingering sadness in her words.

She stood up and hugged Ethan in her embrace.

"I can't believe they made a little kid like you suffer through this," she said.

Finally, she let him go after a few seconds and went back to her seat.

"She lost her husband and her young son to the aurora order" Raizel whispered to Ethan as Ethan finally understood her sudden reaction. She seems to see her son's reflection in him, who also suffered at the hands of the Aurora Order and became an orphan.

She prepared some documents that Ethan signed and helped him get a weapon holster and six bullets from his Qota. Ethan has to inform them about the use of each and every bullet. Then he and Raizel left the room.

"Let's go meet old man Rayan. He is the most experienced person in deviant matters in Cordoba City." Raizel said as he pead Ethan to another room, which looked more like a chemistry lab that belonged to a nerd.

Ethan, an old man clad in a grey hooded coat, was busy in some experiments as he mixed two liquids in a glass vial. He had a wrinkly face and white hair.

"Yo old man, we got a new recruit here. Stop immersing in your nerdy experiments now" Raizel muttered as he was quite friendly with the old man.

"You damn brat! I'm telling you you will die by my hands if no deviant manages to kill you soon" the old man screamed in annoyance as he stood up and approached the two.

"You must be the boy who subdued a deviant despite being a normal human. Strange...are you sure you are not a deviant? I can feel a subtle flow of spirituality around you...Well, although rare, you must be one of those halflings. Hmm, that must be the reason why managed to win against that newbie lunatic. No wonder Varian asked you to join the Templar Order," the old man spoke as he observed Ethan up and down. He occasionally touched his face and hands as if looking for something.

"Well, I will leave him to you old man. I have to leave for a regular checkup at the police station for any new cases" Raizel said as he left, leaving the two alone.

"Hello, sir. Although you know already, I'm Ethan Holmes. I will be in your care from now on" Ethan said respectfully.

"Indeed, Indeed...you have some good manners kid. That brat definitely needs to learn manners from you. By the way, I'm Rayan Winfrey, a potion maker. No need to feel so reserved with me. After all, I'm not a part of the official team now since I have retired. I have no family so I just like to work here with these kids. After working here for so long, I consider them as my own family. You are now also a part of this family, kid." Old man Rayan said as he led Ethan with him to a small library attached to his lab.

It was a large room connected with the old Rayan's lab on the left and a door connected with a corridor outside.

Ethan looked at the library in surprise as, despite its importance, it looked lacking and shabby compared to the city library. There were six bookshelves, all sides, with four in the middle. Every bookshelf was filled with books with both old and new titles.

"You must be thinking why is the library so small and lacking, right? Well, I also made the same face when I arrived here for the first time. At that time, it was seven more lacking and shabby. These idiots are all battle-hungry kids, they have no respect or value for knowledge and study. You seem different, I can sense it. You have a scholarly aura in your personality, kid." Old Rayan stated.

Ethan and old Rayan sat at the table as old Rayan brought an old-looking book and put it on the table.

"Since it's your first day of training, we will start with the common and basic knowledge about the 'Church of Eternity'. First, can you tell me how much you know about the Holy Bible?" Ol Rayan asked.

"I used to come to the Cathedral with my family from childhood, so I would say all the basic knowledge a common person devout believer should have," Ethan answered.

"What about your studies and how many languages do you know?" Old Rayan inquired.

"I was topper of my class from elementary class to school graduation. As for languages, I know Ancient Leonese, Simplified Leones, Elvish, Zotun, and Qinxi. I have also cleared University level exams for History, Mathematics, Physics, and Biology but I wasn't interested in pursuing my career in the scholarly field so decided to not join the university. I wanted to create my own business empire but in the end..." Ethan answered.

"You are way smarter and more knowledgeable than I had imagined. It's a good thing. After all, dealing with blank idiots also gets tiring for me nowadays. Well, let's start with the history of the church...

As you know, according to the biblical creation myth, the first epoch that's also known as the Age of Beginnings lasted from the church calendar year 1 to 10000. Lord created the universe and filled it with celestial bodies. Since most of these things are mentioned in the Holy Bible, I won't go much into detail about these things.

Now, let's talk about the History of our Templar Order. According to the last known and authentic resources of our history, the Templar order was established by the 25th pope, St. Samuel Ulrich, during the War of Luminosity. Under his leadership, the church defeated the evil alliance of the Aurora Order and Red Moon Sect in the Southern Continent. Thanks to the war, consequences were too complicated to bear for the church, so they made a new organization under the church to ensure the safety of the society from rogue and hidden deviants that were still hidden within the darkness.

War of Luminosity became the point where the church of Eternity established itself as the sole power within both northern and Southern Continents, and we, the Templar Order, as a result, protect the world from threats of rogue deviants.

Don't worry; as you know, every organization has its secrets, so you will naturally come into contact with some of these secrets with an increase in your status and rank within the order.

Now, let's come to your training...for the first two months, you will work as the civilian staff, and once you get yourself used to working here, you will be provided with an option to choose... whether you want to become a Devaint or not. I know you already have your choice...but we can't skip the mandatory two-month training. Of course, if you show exceptional results in your training on your first month of service, we can push forward your awakening as a Devaint"
