As they enjoyed breakfast together, the Duke suddenly spoke, his deep voice filled with authority.
"Rosalena, your brother, and Airna—I have news. We've received an invitation to the Crown Prince's birthday ball."
Rosalena's hand paused mid-air as she lifted her teacup. She had expected this.
Her father turned to her, his expression softening. "Baby, do you want to go? If you don't, I can reject the invitation."
She fell into deep thought. Avoiding the Crown Prince entirely seemed like the easiest route, but if she didn't attend, wouldn't it make her seem weak? The old Rosalena was known for being arrogant and confident—if she suddenly acted timid, it might draw even more suspicion.
After a moment, she looked up with determination. "No, Father. I'll go. If I refuse, he'll think I'm afraid. And besides, I've already said I don't like him. He's not my type. Leave it to me—I'll handle everything."
In her mind, she was already forming a plan. At the ball, the Crown Prince won't choose me as his dance partner—he'll definitely ask Airna instead. Since he likes her, I won't interfere, and that will solve everything.
A slow, knowing smile crept onto her lips.
The Duke watched her closely before nodding approvingly. "As you wish, my daughter. I trust you."
Once breakfast was finished, Rosalena turned to her father. "Father, may I go out today? I'd like to buy a few things for the ball. I'll take Airna with me."
The Duke hesitated for a moment before sighing. "Alright, dear. But be careful."
She smiled. "Of course, Father."
With that, Rosalena stood, ready to take her first steps toward changing her fate.
