UNKOWN
It's hard to believe it's been three months since that fateful night. A month of my life was spent in the hospital, recovering from the physical and emotional wounds caused by Dion, my boy friend, well my ex-boy friend, he stabbed the sh*t out of me and i ended up lying in a hospital bed,but that's the story for another day ,But I'm a survivor, and I'm determined to move on. He was sentenced 5 years and yet for me it's not enough but it's life. Just two weeks ago, I achieved a major milestone - I graduated as a law student from the University of Witwatersrand. It was a bittersweet moment, as I couldn't help but think of how different my life had turned out. But I'm proud of myself for persevering, and I know that this is just the beginning. Would you guys believe me when i say today i'm going for an interview. I fix my braids and tie them back, making sure that every strand is in place. I chose a formal outfit today , a crisp white blouse and a tailored black pencil skirt, and black pencil heels ,they are perfect for the interview.
I took my phone and requested an uber, watching and the app as it estimates my pick up time.
Me: oh sh*t 10 minutes.
I took a moment to collect my thoughts. I gathered my purse , my file and phone making sure i have everything i need for the interview. With one last check in the mirror, i applied a light coat of lip gloss feeling a surge of confidence. After some time my phone buzzed signaling that my uber has arrived, I took one last look making sure that i have everything, and headed out to meet my ride.
We arrived at Mthembu and Associates, this law company is very nice, and has huge buildings. I paid, and then walked to the receptionist, my heels clicking against the white, nice polished tile.
"Hi ma'am, my name is Cindi how can i help you?"
Me: Hi, My name is Nadia Zyl , I'm here for the interview.
Cindi : *smiling* Oh my boss told me not to make you wait , go to room 155 , on the 6'th floor.
I nodded and walked away, I walked to the elevator and also walked into the interview room, I was greeted by a young man and a lady who introduce themselves as Jacob and Bianca.
Jacob: So, Lerato, tell us a little bit about yourself.
Me: Thank you. I'm a recent law graduate from the University of Witwatersrand, with a strong passion for human rights and social justice. I'm confident that my skills and experience make me an ideal candidate for this position.
Bianca: That's impressive. How do you think you can contribute to our firm's mission?
Me: *smiling* From my research, I understand that Mthembu & Associates is committed to providing exceptional legal services while promoting social responsibility. I believe my experience working with marginalized communities during my law clinic days has equipped me with the skills and empathy to make a meaningful contribution to your firm's mission.
Jacob: Excellent answer. Can you give us an example of a challenging situation you faced during your studies, and how you overcame it?
Me: Ah, yes. During my final year, I was working on a group project and one of my team members wasn't pulling their weight. I had to navigate the situation carefully, making sure to communicate effectively and find a solution that worked for everyone. We ended up delivering a top-notch project, and I learned the importance of effective teamwork and conflict resolution.
Bianca: *smiling* Well done, Nadia. You're certainly confident and articulate. Do you have any questions for us?
Me: Yes, actually. Can you tell me more about the firm's culture and what a typical day would look like in this role?
Jacob: *laughing* Great question. We'll make sure to answer that in detail. Thank you, Lerato, for coming in today.
I stood up, we hand shaked and walked out. I smile, feeling confident and hopeful as I leave the interview room. I'm hopeful that I'll get the job.
To celebrate, I decide to grab lunch at McDonald's. I order my favorite meal, a Big Mac and fries, and enjoy every bite. As I eat, I scroll through my phone, checking my emails and social media. After lunch, I head back to my apartment, feeling a bit lonely. I don't really have any friends to speak of, not since the incident with Dion. I've been too scared to reach out to people, afraid of being judged or rejected.
But I'm determined to move on, to start rebuilding my life. So, I spend the afternoon cleaning my apartment, putting on some music and dancing as I dust and vacuum. After I finish cleaning, I settle in on the couch with a bowl of popcorn and watch a movie. I choose a rom-com, something light and fluffy to take my mind off things.
As the movie plays, I feel myself relaxing, letting go of some of the tension and stress that's been building up inside me. It's nice to have some time to myself, to just chill and be. As the credits roll, I realize that it's getting late. I yawn, feeling sleepy, and decide to call it a night. I head to bed, feeling grateful for this quiet, peaceful evening, and hoping that tomorrow will bring more good things.
