Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Closer Than Before

The aroma of fresh earth and blooming marigolds filled the air as Shiori and Rei worked side-by-side in the flower shop, preparing for the upcoming coastal town festival. Laughter echoed through the shop, punctuated by the gentle clatter of vases and the rhythmic snip of scissors.

It had been a week since Rei's confession at the izakaya, and their bond had deepened with every shared glance, every lingering touch. The weight of Rei's past hung heavy, a cloud threatening to obscure their burgeoning connection, but Shiori was determined to push past it.

Shiori demonstrated the delicate art of weaving flower garlands, her hands moving with practiced ease. Rei watched, her eyes wide with fascination.

"It's so intricate," she breathed, reaching out to touch a marigold bloom, her fingers tracing the delicate petals.

"It takes time and patience," Shiori explained, a gentle smile gracing her lips.

"Patience is not my forte," Rei admitted, laughing softly.

Shiori's gaze lingered on Rei's focused face, a wave of affection washing over her. The determination to master this delicate craft mirrored the yearning Rei showed for escaping her tumultuous past, seeking solace and stability in something beautiful and tangible.

"It's alright, we can learn together," Shiori offered, extending her hand. "Give me your palm."

Rei looked at Shiori's outstretched hand, surprised, a hint of apprehension in her eyes. Hesitantly, she placed her hand in Shiori's.

Shiori's touch sent a jolt of warmth through Rei's veins, a stark contrast to the coolness she carried from the relentless pressures of her previous life.

"Just relax, trust your hands," Shiori guided, showing Rei the simple motions, demonstrating how to gently wrap the petals together.

As Rei began weaving, her movements clumsy yet determined, Shiori noticed her knuckles were white, fingers tight. Shiori placed her hand lightly on top of Rei's, feeling the tremors running through her.

"Relax," Shiori murmured, her voice soothing, encouraging. "Let it flow. Let your heart guide your hands."

Slowly, Rei's grip relaxed. Her fingers became gentler, moving with increasing confidence, creating delicate swirls and knots, weaving her anxieties and uncertainties into something beautiful and fragile.

Looking at Rei's concentrated expression, Shiori felt a warmth bloom within her, stronger than any spring blossom.
