A few days had passed since Angel made her call to "Tech for All," and although her days had been as busy as ever at Havenview, the thought of finding a tech-savvy volunteer stayed at the forefront of her mind. She was in the middle of a quiet moment between sessions when her phone buzzed on the desk beside her. Glancing at the screen, she saw the name Jane from "Tech for All."
"Hello, this is Angel," she answered brightly, eager to hear any updates.
"Hi, Angel, this is Jane from 'Tech for All,'" came the friendly voice on the other end. "Good news! I've found someone in your area who can help with the issues you mentioned."
Angel sat up straighter, her heart lifting with hope. "That's fantastic! Who is it?"
"Well," Jane hesitated, "the person's name is Jordan. She's a programmer and works remotely, which gives her a flexible schedule, but I should let you know... she's a bit of a recluse. She doesn't take phone calls well, so I'll give you her email address to reach out instead."
Angel scribbled the email address onto a sticky note pad branded with Havenview's logo, nodding to herself as she wrote. "That's absolutely fine. I'm just grateful someone is willing to help at all. Thank you for getting back to me so quickly!"
Jane chuckled warmly. "No problem at all. I hope this works out. If you need anything else, don't hesitate to give us a call."
After a few more words of thanks, Angel ended the call and stared at the email address on her sticky note for a moment. "Jordan," she murmured aloud, letting the name roll off her tongue. It sounded strong, simple, and dependable. Exactly what they needed right now.
Without hesitation, she opened the email app on her phone and began drafting her message. Her fingers hovered over the keyboard for a moment before she began typing:
Subject: Volunteer Support for Havenview Elder Care
Dear Jordan,
My name is Angela Goodman, and I'm a Caregiver and Counsellor at Havenview Elder Care Home here in Brighton. I was given your contact information by Jane at "Tech for All" and wanted to reach out to see if you might be able to assist us.
We're currently facing some significant issues with our technology—outdated computers, unreliable internet, and general backend problems—which are preventing our elderly residents from staying in touch with their loved ones. It's heartbreaking to see their frustration, and we want to get this resolved as soon as possible.
I understand from Jane that you work remotely and might have some flexibility in your schedule. I also wanted to mention that our care home is approximately a 20-minute drive from the city center, so hopefully, that helps give you an idea of the commute if you're able to visit us in person.
I know this is a big ask, and I understand if it's too much. Please let me know if you'd be interested, and I'd be happy to provide further details or answer any questions.
Thank you so much for considering this!
Warm regards,
Angela Goodman
Caregiver & Counsellor
Havenview Elder Care Home
Angel read through her email twice before pausing, her thumb hovering over the "Send" button. Was she being too pushy? Did she sound desperate? She took a deep breath and reminded herself that Jordan, at the end of the day, had the power to say no if she wasn't interested.
With that reassurance, she hit "Send" and leaned back in her chair. The message was out there now, and all she could do was hope for a positive response.
