Chapter 1 - SECRET OF TIME

Eli's fingers slowly ran along the dusty shelves of his grandfather's workshop. It was a small, forgotten place nestled in the corner of the village. The air inside carried the scent of aged wood, metal, and a faint trace of tobacco smoke, as though old memories were embedded in its walls. For years, the workshop had remained untouched since his grandfather's passing, but today, something inexplicable had drawn Eli there.

"Just grab the wrench and get out," Eli muttered to himself, scanning the cluttered room for the tool he had come to find.

Eli's life was simple—perhaps too simple. At 19, he worked part-time at the village bookstore and attended evening classes. He had no big dreams or special talents, and he certainly had no interest in his grandfather's clock-making trade. Yet, standing in that room today, he felt a strange unease, as if something was out of place.

His eyes landed on an old, large clock hanging on the wall. Its pendulum swung slowly, measuring time. It was the only thing in the room that seemed alive. He approached it and noticed a faint golden glow emanating from beneath it. This was unusual—his father had claimed the clock had been broken for years.

Curiosity took over as Eli instinctively reached under the clock and found a hidden latch. Click. The clock face opened, revealing a concealed compartment that he had never seen before. Inside was a peculiar object—a small hourglass filled with golden sand that shimmered like stardust. Delicate engravings adorned the glass, and a chain was attached, as if it were meant to be worn around the neck.

"What is this...?" Eli whispered in astonishment.

Suddenly, the room changed. The clock, which had been ticking slowly, abruptly stopped at midnight. An eerie silence filled the space, and Eli felt a heavy weight settle on his chest.

He stumbled backward, clutching the hourglass tightly. "This is madness," he gasped.

Then, a deep, ancient voice echoed through the room. "The Keeper has awakened."

Eli's eyes darted around, his voice caught in his throat. Shadows in the corners of the room deepened, taking on menacing shapes. Panic gripped him as he turned to flee, but a sudden gust of wind slammed the door shut, trapping him inside.

The voice spoke again, clearer this time, as though someone stood right behind him. "The sands of time are now in your possession, young Keeper. But beware... the burden is yours to bear."

Eli's fingers tightened around the hourglass, his only anchor in the chaos swirling around him. His mind raced with questions—what was happening? Was this a dream? A trick?

The sands inside the hourglass began to glow more intensely, defying gravity as they flowed upward. As they reversed, the room seemed to warp, time twisting around him.

Darkness engulfed everything.

When Eli opened his eyes, he was no longer in the workshop. He stood in a vast, moonlit field, with stars scattered across an infinite sky. In the distance, an ancient stone tower rose, disappearing into the clouds.

His heart pounded. "Where am I?"

"The journey has begun," the voice now sounded gentle and sympathetic. "You have been chosen, Eli. The hourglass holds the power to control time, and you are its Keeper. But beware—many seek its power. The responsibility is now yours."

Eli shook his head in disbelief. "This is insane. I'm just... nobody. I can't handle this."

"You are more than you know," the voice interrupted firmly, "but you must discover it yourself."

Before Eli could process anything, movement caught his eye. From the shadow of the tower emerged a cloaked figure with glowing red eyes. The air around it shimmered ominously, distorting space.

Eli's instinct screamed at him to run, but fear rooted him in place.

The figure raised its hand, and the ground trembled. "Give me the hourglass, boy," it hissed, its voice cold and menacing. "It belongs to us."

Eli's breath quickened. His legs begged him to flee, but he was paralyzed by terror.

The figure drew closer, shadows swirling around its feet. "Last chance. Hand it over, and perhaps I'll let you live."

Eli's mind raced. Could he trust this voice? What was this hourglass, and why did this being desire it so badly?

Before he could decide, the hourglass throbbed in his grip, the sands within glowing fiercely. Time warped once more, and with a blinding flash of light, the entire world was consumed by brilliance.

Eli was thrown through the air by the explosion's force. When he landed, dazed, the field, the tower, and the mysterious figure were all gone. He was back in the workshop, gasping for breath, the hourglass still clutched in his hand.

The clock on the wall resumed ticking, its hands moving forward as if nothing had happened.

But something had changed. Eli could feel it—a strange connection to time and the hourglass. His grandfather's voice echoed in his mind, a memory long buried:

"Time waits for no one, Eli. But for a few... it can be bent."

And so began the extraordinary journey of a seemingly ordinary boy.
