Chapter 15 - Betrayal and Heartbreak

Hiroshi threw himself into helping Hanako find her true self. He encouraged her to explore her passions, to step outside her comfort zone, and to challenge the expectations that had been placed upon her.

He helped her rediscover her love for writing, her passion for art, and her hidden talent for playing the guitar.

He spent hours with her in the library, not just studying, but discussing books, sharing ideas, and encouraging her to express herself through her writing.

He took her to art galleries and museums, exposing her to different forms of artistic expression and inspiring her to find her own unique voice.

He even convinced her to join a beginner's guitar class, where she surprised both of them with her natural talent and her passion for music.

He also continued to see Sakura, finding solace in her friendship and wise counsel. She helped him navigate his conflicting emotions, offering a listening ear and a shoulder to lean on.

He realized that he had developed deeper feelings for Sakura, appreciating her intelligence, kindness, and unwavering support.

He admired her strength and independence, her ability to be both playful and serious, and her unwavering belief in him.

But even as he focused on helping Hanako and building a connection with Sakura, he couldn't completely erase Rina from his thoughts. He worried about her, wondering if she was safe, if she regretted her choices. He missed her fiery spirit, her enigmatic smile, the thrill of their forbidden romance.

One evening, as Hiroshi was working late in the computer lab, he received a message from an unknown number. It was a photo of Rina, her face bruised and bloodied, her eyes filled with fear. The message was short and chilling: "She pays the price, or you do."

Hiroshi's blood ran cold. He recognized the sender's number. It was from one of the Dragons he had encountered at the warehouse. They had Rina, and they were using her to get to him.

He felt a surge of panic, his mind racing. He had to save Rina, but he didn't know how. He was just a college student, with no resources and no power to fight against a ruthless gang.

He contacted Sakura, his voice trembling as he explained the situation. Sakura, ever calm and resourceful, helped him devise a plan. They contacted the police, providing them with the evidence Hiroshi had gathered on the Black Serpents and the Dragons, hoping to trigger a raid on both gangs and rescue Rina in the process.

The next few hours were a blur of anxiety and anticipation. Hiroshi paced the police station waiting room, his mind filled with images of Rina's terrified face. He couldn't bear the thought of her being hurt, of losing her because of his involvement in her dangerous world.

Finally, the news came. The police had raided the Dragons' hideout, but Rina was gone. They had found evidence of a struggle, bloodstains on the floor, but no sign of Rina herself

Hiroshi's heart sank. He knew what this meant. Rina had been taken, probably by the Dragons, and her fate was uncertain.

He felt a wave of despair wash over him, his body collapsing onto the chair. He had failed her. He had promised to protect her, but he had only brought her more danger.

As the days turned into weeks, and there was still no news of Rina, Hiroshi's hope dwindled. He blamed himself for her disappearance, his guilt gnawing at his conscience. He withdrew from Hanako and Sakura, unable to face them, unable to bear their pity or their concern.

He threw himself into his studies, seeking solace in the logic and order of computer code. He tried to forget Rina, to erase her from his memory, but her image haunted him, her laughter echoing in his dreams.

One afternoon, as Hiroshi was leaving the library, he bumped into Aiko. She looked at him, her eyes filled with a mixture of pity and triumph.

"I heard about Rina," she said, her voice smug. "It's a shame, really. She was such a free spirit."

Hiroshi's fists clenched, his anger flaring. "What do you know about it?" he growled.

Aiko smirked. "More than you think, Hiroshi. I know about the Black Serpents, about their illegal activities, about their enemies."

She leaned closer, her voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. "I even know about Rina's little plan to use you to get rid of the Dragons."

Hiroshi's eyes widened in shock. "What are you talking about?"

Aiko's smirk widened. "Oh, Hiroshi, you're so naive. Rina never cared about you. She just used you, just like she used everyone else."

She paused, her voice dripping with malice. "And now, she's gone. And you're left to pick up the pieces."

Hiroshi felt a surge of rage, his vision blurring. He wanted to lash out at Aiko, to silence her cruel words, but he knew that it wouldn't change anything.

Rina was gone. And he was alone.
