Chapter 17 - Wishing for an Inventory

***

Dianne galloped through the forest, she knew that if she wanted to catch the group she'd need to minimise the time lost. Therefore, she did not stop to eat, she simply ate while galloping.

It was 2 pm and so the girl was eating rice in a cup. She had only 5 more cups of rice left, one for each morning and night. Since there were about 4 days of travel left she was running out of food.

Noticing this she decided she wouldn't eat rice before sleeping for the next couple days. That aside, Dianne went back to focusing on the chasing.

After finishing her food, she pushed it into her inventory, a pocket dimention of sorts that allowed her to store items without having to carry them.

It was already 7 pm, the girl was getting tired of chasing them. But she knew that if she stopped trying to catch them her life would be in the line. Essentially, there was no option other than to keep going.

However, she surely had a chance to defeat the little heroes wannabe, after all, she was stronger than Navi. That was obvious by the way she acted, alongside that, her personality was also pretty solid. With solid I mean regarding the bases of a psycopath assassin, this meant she'd probably never question why she's going after some people to kill them.

It was surely something people needed if they worked for Void-Man, because if they questioned his ways they'd probably end up like Navi.

Dianne kept galloping through the forest.

Meanwhile, some interesting latest news were released. The news clock said it was 19:39.

In the news channel from the main television branch, a man in a suit, a blue suit with a red tie, black glasses and a nerdy hairstyle spoke to the cam. The microphone he was holding said 'New News!'.

The man spoke in an annoyingly monotone tone, but clear and loud one. Looking directly at the camera.

"Exactly 2 days, 1 hour and 20 minutes ago an explosion was discovered in District 9, while destruction isn't new in that zone of Hansha, it is weird that they are so powerful."

The man kept explaining.

"The explosion originated at the 5th floor, and following it the huge skyscraper slowly succumbed. The architects investigating the facts of the case came to the conclusion that the floating engines had been hacked, which derived into the massive building crashing down the land through the bottom clouds."

The man took some seconds to ready himself for the next part of the new.

"The authorities are still trying to recover the last injured men and women from the building, but the numbers are extremely high. The 24 floor building crumbled down and so far the numbers are of 523 deaths, about 1200 injured and still half thousand disappeared. Those closer to the 5th floor have been so affected by the explosion that they're almost unrecognisable."

That said, the man finished giving the news.

"While we have seen previous terrorist attacks in District 9, this one is clearly unprecedented. The mayor of District 9 is wondering where this could escalate. The toughest part is we still don't have a single clue about the motives of the attack, all we can do is wait for more information."

The news ended and the sad news suddenly switched to a romance television show.

Eizit, Azael and Sophie kept galloping through the forest, it was already 8 pm and they were getting closer and closer to the Iron Gate.

Azael said something, lamenting that be couldn't use it.

"I've heard that there are actually inventories in this game, but it's only unlocked on the third death!"

Eizit laughed softly

"Man, you always complain about not having access to some features. I don't know about you, but I'd rather be on my 2nd life without an inventory than being on my 3rd life with one. The closer I am from permanently disappearing from existence, the better."

Sophie nodded. Azael, however, seemed to disagree.

"Well that's kinda hypocritical, you can't say you value your life so much when you put it st risk all the time in order to protect someone else!"

Sophie interrupted Azael.

"Well, if he puts his life in the line it is because he knows the value of life, and therefore wouldn't let someone else lose it"

Azael shook his head in disapproval.

"Or maybe he just doesn't value his life and takes advantage of that to look cool and seem good"

She seemed slightly annoyed at that. Nonetheless, as she was going to reply to Azael Eizit took over the conversation and spoke.

"Let's not argue about that, okay? I do it because it's the right thing to do, that is the only reason"

Azael sighed, and Sophie smiled in relief. Eizit spoke again.

"But yes, I do have to admit that an inventory would be useful. So, if you want to dream about how good it would be, there's nothing bad with doing so"

Sophie nodded, and spoke.

"Well, if we can dream, then I'd love to have an inventory. I could get my staff on it and wouldn't need to carry it all the time, my back would feel free, more than ever!"

Azael kept on speaking, dreaming.

"Well, I'd love to use it to avoid carrying so many bags and food all the time, because being honest, it is so annoying!"

Eizit and Sophie giggled, and the second one asked him.

"What about you, Eizit?"

He replied.

"Well, an inventory would surely be super useful. Not only could we store both our weapons, like your staff, and our stuff, but we could also carry more than we could normally do."

Azael followed on

"Yeah! Not just a lot of food or utility items such as ropes, but also different types of weapons. A dagger, a sword, a claymore, it'd be sick!"

Eizit giggled

"Well, I wouldn't enjoy being a jack of all trades, master of none. However, it would surely work, that's something I can assure you."

Sophie wondered, asking a question.

"Can you put big objects into the inventory too? Like a chair, table, etc.?"

"Yeah, but there's a maximum size, it depends in your physical strength, size and weight."

Said Eizit, and then kept explaining.

"But yes, for sure, I've heard the story of a giant who travelled again pulling out their house out of their inventory when they wanted to rest. Sleep."

Azael's eyes shined bright as he heard that story, and he replied excited.

"Wooooow, a giant that could pull out their entire house with their inventory?"

Eizit sighed, noticing the story was far too good to be true.

"Well, probably they weren't an actual giant, as it wouldn't make sense. A giant needs a giant house, maybe it was just a very tall man and the house was just a tent. Still, it's pretty cool."

Sophie nodded, wondering something else now.

"Wait, then what about boars. Could we throw boars into our incentory once we hunt them? That way we would have a way of storing the food!"

Eizit giggled, it would be sick, but sadly that wasn't how the inventory worked.

"Well, we could try. However, I'm pretty sure the inventory does not work on living beings"

Sophie smirked.

"But if they're dead, they're not living beings anymore, right?"

Eizit giggled and Azael laughed, the last one replying.

"Well, I guess if we ever get an inventory it would be worth trying."

Eizit nodded

"Yeah, it would help us a ton with our food issues. So far we can beat wild boars left and right but there's no way to actually carry their meat, so we end up only using their legs... That is basically a huge waste of food."

Sophie nodded again

"Yeah, it would be good if we could use the inventory to store all the food we could."

Azael replied.

"Well, even if we couldn't store the wild boar entirely, we could probably cut it in different meat pieces and just store it that way. Because food doesn't rot in the inventory, right?"

"Well, it does rot, but way slower. The inventory works as some sort of fridge, so you understand it."

Sophie nodded, she seemed slightly confused, but Azael and Eizit either didn't notice or ignored it.

It was already 10 pm and the light had already faded, the group stopped galloping and got ready to sleep. As always, Azael stood guard for the first 4 hours and then the two elves took the 'baton', staying on the lookout for the rest of the night.
