Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: The Clash of Rivals

The arena was hushed with anticipation, the air heavy with the tension of what was to come. This was the match everyone had been waiting for—Kaelan Drakemont, the underdog with a growing reputation, against Count Aldric Eryndor, one of the strongest noble scions of the kingdom.

Kaelan stepped into the arena, his silver aura faintly flickering around him. He had been calm throughout the tournament, but now, his focus sharpened. Across from him, Aldric entered with a flourish, his crimson aura flaring around him like flames. He radiated confidence, his smirk conveying that he believed this fight was already his.

The announcer's voice boomed over the arena. "The second semifinal match: Kaelan Drakemont versus Count Aldric Eryndor! Let the duel begin!"

Aldric strode forward, his sword resting casually over his shoulder. "You've done well to get this far, Kaelan," he said, his tone condescending. "But this is where your little streak ends."

Kaelan remained silent, his calm gaze meeting Aldric's. The lack of response seemed to irk Aldric, who took a step closer.

"You're still the same as always," Aldric continued, his smirk widening. "Quiet, reserved, pretending to be better than everyone else. Let me show you what true power looks like."

Kaelan finally spoke, his voice measured but firm. "Words won't win this fight, Aldric. Let's see if you can back them up."

The crowd roared as the tension between the two reached its peak.

Aldric moved first, his crimson aura surging as he lunged forward with a powerful overhead strike. Kaelan sidestepped, deflecting the blow with a quick parry. The clash of their swords sent a shockwave through the arena, drawing gasps from the spectators.

Kaelan counterattacked with a precise thrust, aiming for Aldric's shoulder. Aldric blocked it, his aura flaring as he pushed Kaelan back. "Not bad," Aldric said, his tone mocking. "But you'll need more than that to beat me."

The fight escalated, both combatants using their auras to enhance their speed and strength. Aldric's strikes were aggressive and overwhelming, his aura roaring like an inferno. Kaelan, on the other hand, was controlled and methodical, his silver aura shimmering like moonlight as he deflected and countered each of Aldric's attacks.

"You're surprisingly stubborn," Aldric sneered, unleashing a flurry of strikes. "But you're still no match for me!"

Kaelan didn't respond, focusing instead on finding openings in Aldric's relentless assault. With a sudden burst of speed, Kaelan sidestepped another powerful strike and delivered a spinning slash, forcing Aldric to retreat.

The crowd was on the edge of their seats as the fight reached a fever pitch. Kaelan and Aldric were evenly matched, their auras clashing in bursts of light and energy.

"You're better than I expected," Aldric admitted, his smirk replaced by a more serious expression. "But I'm done playing around."

Aldric's crimson aura surged, growing darker and more intense. He raised his sword, the blade glowing with raw power, and unleashed a devastating strike aimed directly at Kaelan.

Kaelan met the attack head-on, his silver aura flaring to its fullest. The clash of their auras created a shockwave that rattled the arena, forcing spectators to shield their eyes from the blinding light.

When the dust settled, both fighters were still standing, but it was clear that Aldric's confidence had taken a hit. Kaelan, though slightly battered, looked as calm and composed as ever.

"Impossible..." Aldric muttered, gripping his sword tighter.

Kaelan raised his blade, his voice steady. "Is that all you've got?"

With a roar, Aldric launched himself at Kaelan, his attacks becoming more reckless and desperate. Kaelan remained composed, using his superior technique to deflect and counter each strike. Finally, Kaelan saw his opening.

As Aldric overextended with a powerful downward slash, Kaelan sidestepped and delivered a precise strike to Aldric's sword arm, disarming him. In one swift motion, Kaelan pointed his blade at Aldric's throat.

The crowd erupted in cheers and gasps, the announcer's voice barely audible over the noise. "Kaelan Drakemont wins!"

Selene watched from the gallery, her expression unreadable. She had been skeptical of Kaelan before, but now, she couldn't deny his skill and determination. A faint smile tugged at her lips as she murmured to herself, "Interesting..."

Elara, sitting nearby, was equally impressed. She had always prided herself on her keen judgment of people, and Kaelan had proven to be far more capable than she had anticipated.

Meanwhile, in the noble's gallery, Elena's expression was a mask of cold fury. She stood abruptly, her voice low but filled with venom as she spoke to herself. "I can't leave this to these children anymore. If I want this to end, I'll have to handle it myself." With that, she swept out of the gallery, her mind already working on her next move.

Kaelan sheathed his sword and left the arena, his mind already focused on the final match. He knew that his victory over Aldric had sent ripples through the noble circles, but he didn't care about their opinions. For him, this was just another step forward.

As the crowd buzzed with excitement over the upcoming final, the political machinations behind the scenes were already in motion. Elena's departure from the gallery was a sign that things were about to take a darker turn, and Kaelan would soon find himself facing challenges far greater than any arena battle.
