Jakob's POV
Everyone looked at me. I didn't know what to say. What could I say? The vision pin-pointed me as the man's son from the vision which meant that Kyrhen is going straight to Violet City. We need to stop him before he goes. He has no idea what he is walking into. Saline is an utterly evil man, who will no doubt corrupt what goodness is left in Kyrhen's body. I know he had been making a lot of bad choices and was feeling the guilt from those choices. Perhaps that guilt was the driving factor to him wanting to go.
We need to make sure he is still here.
"Uhm, let's go check on Kyrhen to make sure he is still home."
My voice shook them all out of their stupor. Their mother was the first to get up and run towards their home with Miller hot on her heels. Kalysta and Adelaide waited for me to join them. We walked briskly behind the rest. Kalysta wasn't in a hurry and I found it very odd. She seemed to be grimacing as if she knew for a fact he was already gone. That expression on her face worried me.
Their mother came out of the home crying as we arrived. "He is gone! My boy is gone! What if the things Kalysta saw are real? What if he gives away our location to the city? They break every community that doesn't join them." Her shaking voice betraying the heartbreak she was feeling. Miller wrapped his arms around her and held her tight. Their younger kids joining the hug and some crying with their mother.
"Adelaide, I feel like you, Kalysta, and I need to sit down and have a good long talk." I spoke those words without looking away from Kalysta's crying mother. My eyes were glued to her. My mother didn't love me enough to cry over me. A part of me felt envious of Kyrhen. I doubt he knows how loved he is. He's always so focused on everything else. Miller was trying to console his wife with no real luck. Watching her wasn't easy.
"Meet at my place. Five minutes.". Adelaide's response to my statement was quick and to the point. All of us had a lot of information to sort through. The sooner we got through with it the better. I feel very apprehensive. I walked to my room to grab a drink. My anxiety was making Onyx complain.
"You're worry is futile. Let's hunt the boy and deliver him to his mother. Then we can leave and be done with this place."
"No Onyx. We won't ever be done here. This is home now."
"This territory is not large enough. Their are no females for me to mate with."
"Bro, no!!! Get out of my head with that! Focus on the task at hand."
My link is not a happy man. Tiger.
My brain is fried. Shit hit all up in the fan. The phrase feeling like a bit of an understatement. Kyrhen going to Saline is bad news. Furthermore, it seems Adelaide may know who Jasin is. How? My thoughts raced as I grabbed some home made beer from my room. I have a feeling I'll need it.
Stepping out I found Kalysta waiting for me. I passed a beer to her and we stepped out of the home together, walking towards Adelaide's house. Not much was said. I guess we will all have a lot to say soon enough.
I knocked on the door. Once I heard the woman welcome us in I opened the door and lead Kalysta to her grandmother's living room. Adelaide was waiting for us. We sat down on an old long couch while to woman remained rocking in her chair.
---The Conversation ---
Adelaide: "So, who wants to begin?
Jakob: " I guess I will. My mother was a drug addict. Jasin Saline, the CEO of Violet City got her addicted to the drugs to get back at my grandfather for some type of a business deal complication. While he pumped her full of drugs he also got her pregnant with me. She was absolutely gorgeous until she broke her neck and became paralyzed. Saline then stopped supplying her addiction and she rapidly aged. She was always an ugly woman on the inside but now she is hideous on the outside too. I was her caretaker until she pushed me too far. I stole money from my grandfather and ran away. I found Onyx on my way here. We learned about this place from other shifters we had ran across. I wanted to buff up and get ready to go to the city. I want to kill Saline. All the misery of my life was due to being his son. His sins got put on me."
Kalysta: "Jake, that's a lot to swallow. No wonder you never wanted to talk about your life before coming here. As for me all I know is that I had a vision and then turned into a phoenix harpy thing. Also, I can hear my eagle again. I wish I could hug her and hold her tight."
Finally it was Adelaide's turn.
Adelaide: "Jakob your father was a student of mine about 30 years ago. Back then he was a sweet young man. He had found a black mamba at a reptile expo. Some people had collected the reptiles and turned it into a show. The snake saw Jasin and they linked immediately. While mentoring him he began to be more defiant. He didn't care too much about the purpose of the links. He was becoming erratic in his behavior before leaving here. I was worried about the type of person he would become. Jasin has now surpassed even my most horrid nightmares."
Jakob: "So my father was your student? You're my mentor and my girlfriend's grandma? Jasin is now the bad guy we are all worried about too! What are the odds that all of this is just a mere coincidence?"
Adelaide: "None, this was devised by the Gods. It has to have been a plan. I am so frustrated with the way they play my loved ones."
Kalysta: "Easy Nan, don't go smiting them just yet. Let the plan play out. Maybe we just can't see their end game yet."
Adelaide: "You seem to be taking on the Oracle thing pretty well."
Kalysta rolled her eyes. She might as well take it seriously. All of our lives are pawns in their games anyways. I cracked open my beer and took a sip. Kalysta drank from hers. Adelaide pouted until I pulled out another. She smiled once I walked it over to put in her hand.
We sat there in silence drinking. Then suddenly I heard my own voice, "Well when are we going after Kyrhen?"
I have hope that we can track him down before he gets to Saline. I want to save the dude from himself. I know his self esteem is shot at the moment and that he is struggling right now. I want to stop him from making a mistake he will never be able to come back from. He has family who loves him, a mother who longs for his safe return.
I wish my mother loved me.
