Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: Confrontation and Control

Elena was standing in front of the mirror and looking at her reflection. Her dread has turned to determination. Her black attire that she chose for her task was little above her knees and elegant. Elena didn't want to show Damian that she was trying to dress up for him but felt the need to match his intensity. So she figured it can't hurt to try a bit.

She hovered her fingers over her phone as the picture of Damian in her old yearbook lay open. How long had he been observing her? Why didn't he say anything until now?

Right at eight o'clock, she heard a knock on her door. She took a deep breath and opened the door.

Damian stood at the door in a tight, black suit that fitted his broad shoulders perfectly. His dark eyes looked over her, and a slow, hungry smile formed on his lips.

"You are looking beautiful, little bird." He said in a deep voice.

Elena's heart raced at the name, but she made sure to keep her cool. "We need to talk.".

"We sure will," he said, giving her his arm. "Over dinner.".

She started to hesitate, but the glint in his eyes told her otherwise. Finally, she took his arm with a sigh of reluctance, and he walked her to the sleek black car at the curb.

The restaurant Damian picked was as lavish as she thought it would be. The lights from the chandeliers flash over the sharp cocktail tables as there is continuous soft noise from the events.

He took her to a secluded table in the corner and surprisingly gently pulled her chair. As she took a seat, she noticed how the staff behaved around him, their eyes filled with admiration—and fear.

As Soon as they were alone, she started. How come you know me, Damian?".

He leaned back in his chair, keeping eye contact with her. "Straight to the point. I like that.".

"Answer the question," she said, feeling more confident than she was.

He took a sip of his wine and smirked. I have known you for years Elena. Longer than you realize.".

Her stomach churned. "How? Why?".

He tilted his head like he was considering how much to say. Do you remember our highschool days? The library club?".

Her breath caught. "You were there.".

"I was" he confirmed, a little softer. "You might not know me. I wasn't a person people saw back then. But I noticed you.".

Elena looked at him with a racing mind She didn't remember him from back then but now that he mentioned it, she remembered a quiet boy who kept to himself.

You've been tracing my footsteps since high school?"she said with a shiver"

"Following isn't the right word," he said, leaning in. "Protecting. Watching. Waiting.".

"Waiting for what?" she whispered.

"For the right moment," he said, lowering his voice to that of a possessive growl. "So that you can see me."

Elena's pulse quickened. "This isn't normal, Damian. This is—".

"Love," he said, his eyes dark and fierce. "You can call it obsession; it won't change the truth of the matter. You have belonged to me since the first day I saw you Elena. I'm never letting you go now that you are in my world.

Her fists were clenched beneath the table. You cannot choose to do that Damian. "I have a life of my own choice."

He cut her off with, "That all leads back to me." Try to resist it as much as you want, my little bird. You belong to me.".

It was an awkward drive back to her apartment. Damian didn't say anything as he drove, but he felt overbearing.

As they reach her apartment, he walks her to the door with his hand resting on the back.

She turned to him and said, "Damian." This, whatever this is, it has to stop. You can't just come into my life and takeover"

He moved nearer, his black eyes piercing her brown eyes. "I already have.".

She held her breath as he bent to whisper in her ear. One day you will be thankful for this.

Before she could react, he walked away from her, leaving her standing in the doorway, heart racing and mind spinning—That night, Elena was sitting in her apartment. Although she felt a connection to the boy, she knew he was bad news. After gazing out the window for a bit, she gets a message. "Goodnight, little bird" it said and it was from Damian. "Dream of me" secure your heart and ride high through the night. Damian Steele was a storm and she was in his eye.
