Chapter 8 - The Creation of Selene

The night was thick with an ethereal fog that seemed to cling to the trees, the forest blanketed in an eerie quiet that made even the usual rustle of the wind feel ominous. But I wasn't afraid. I had called this place into being with a power that bent the world to my will. Now, I stood at the center of that power, about to create something extraordinary.

With the coven gathered around me—Victor, Joan, Luca, Aurora, and Dante—there was an understanding in the air. We had forged a new reality together, and this next step would change everything. Tonight, I was not merely crafting another ally or servant; I was shaping a partner, someone who would walk beside me in the world I was building.

I focused my mind on the essence of what I wanted, on the vision that had been with me since I first learned of her—Selene. The fierce, immortal warrior from the Underworld series, a character who had captivated me from the moment I first saw her. Her strength, beauty, and unyielding spirit were perfect qualities for what I needed, for what I desired. This was no ordinary creation; she would be someone beyond what anyone could imagine.

With my ability to create, I reached into the very fabric of existence, pulling at the threads that wove her into being. I thought of her—her pale, flawless skin, her black leather, her dark hair that seemed to absorb light, and the blue eyes that could pierce through the night. In an instant, she began to take form before me, her shape solidifying as if she had always been there, waiting to be brought into this world.

As the fog parted, the figure of Selene stood before me. She was perfect—no, more than perfect. She radiated an ancient power, her beauty breathtaking even in the dim light of the forest. Her features were sculpted to perfection—high cheekbones, a strong jawline, full lips that seemed to shimmer with an otherworldly glow. She stood tall and graceful, as if every movement she made was deliberate, every gesture imbued with a silent strength. Her dark hair cascaded down her back in a sleek waterfall, her blue eyes glowing with intensity.

The cool night air swirled around her, but it seemed to bend to her will, the darkness itself giving way to her presence.

She surveyed her surroundings with a calm, calculating gaze, as if she had been in this world all her life. Her lips parted, and the unmistakable confidence in her voice filled the space between us. "So, you brought me here," she said, her tone rich with both curiosity and challenge. "What is it you want?"

I stepped toward her, the ground beneath my feet seeming to shift with my every movement. "I want you, Selene. Not as a servant, not as a follower. But as my equal. You are more than what I've created. You are part of this."

Her eyes narrowed, assessing me with an almost predatory precision. "Equal? I don't take orders, Jason. But I'll follow where I see fit. And right now, I see strength in you." She gave a slight smirk, her lips curling into something almost like approval.

"Then you'll stand with me, beside me, as my partner," I said firmly. "We will reshape this world together."

She nodded slowly, the weight of her decision settling between us. "I'm not one for allegiances, but I have chosen to stand with you. I choose this path." Her gaze softened just slightly, the warrior's edge still present but tempered by something deeper. "Let's see where this leads."

The next day, my coven and I entered Forks High School as a family, each of us playing our part in a well-oiled plan. We were strangers to this town, and our presence was about to turn some heads.

Victor, Joan, Luca, Aurora, and Dante were all enrolled under a new surname—"Vesper," which had a nice ring to it, representing the dark, quiet nature of our existence. We had forged our identities carefully and crafted backgrounds that matched the small-town life of Forks. We were now the Vesper family, and to everyone else, that's all we would ever be.

Victor, naturally, took the role of patriarch, using his charisma and authoritative presence to smooth over any administrative hiccups during our enrollment. Joan, with her sharp intellect and knack for planning, had worked with him to ensure our class schedules were carefully chosen to allow us to stay close to each other without drawing suspicion.

Luca and Aurora, with their quiet but magnetic energy, helped us remain unnoticed by the other students. They were always aware of how much attention they drew, but their ability to turn it into something subtle, almost forgettable, was what made them ideal for our purpose. Dante, as ever, took the role of our silent protector, observing everyone and everything with an intensity that made anyone who lingered too long in our vicinity feel uneasy.

And then there was me. The one who held the power to create, the one who had brought this coven together. But there was also something else, something that set me apart. I wasn't here simply to follow the game or to build an empire in the shadows. I had a deeper desire—to find something real, something natural with Alice, despite the mate bond pulling at me.

The hallways of Forks High School seemed to buzz with activity as students moved between classes. When we stepped inside the main doors, the atmosphere changed. Whispers spread, eyes followed, and the usual murmur of chatter seemed to deepen into something almost reverent. The students had never seen people like us—so composed, so perfect in their presence. The beauty of my coven was undeniable, but it was our aura that set us apart. We were something more than human, something ancient.

I felt it almost immediately: Alice's gaze. She was in the hallway, her bright eyes focused on me with a mixture of curiosity and something deeper—something instinctual. The mate bond flared for a brief moment, but I crushed it down, refusing to let it take control. I wasn't going to be driven by that pull. Not while Selene was beside me.

And beside me she was.

Selene walked beside me as I strode through the hallway, the whispers rising like a tide as she caught the attention of everyone around us. She was effortlessly stunning, her presence magnetic. Her leather jacket, her dark hair, and her piercing blue eyes had the effect of turning heads as if she were a force of nature. There was no question that she was noticed by every student who crossed her path. But she remained unaffected, her expression calm, as if this attention were merely background noise to the power she radiated.

When we passed through the hallway, the students parted like a river, parting around us as though they instinctively knew we were not to be challenged. The Cullens stood at the far end, watching us closely. Their curiosity was obvious, especially Alice, whose gaze was fixed on me.

I kept my pace steady, ignoring the tug of the mate bond. I didn't look back at Alice; instead, my focus remained on Selene. She was my choice, my partner, and there was no room for anyone else in my heart—certainly not someone who was bound to me by something as arbitrary as fate.

Victor, Joan, Luca, Aurora, and Dante followed closely behind, all of us blending seamlessly into the rhythm of the school, as though we had always been a part of it. The Cullens couldn't help but observe, but they had no idea what we were truly capable of. They didn't understand the depth of our power, our purpose, or the connection I shared with Selene.

As we reached our lockers, I felt Alice's gaze again, and this time, she took a step forward, a silent invitation. She wanted to approach, to speak, but I wasn't ready for that yet. Not while Selene was by my side.

Selene leaned in slightly, her voice barely above a whisper. "They'll keep watching. But they won't understand. Not yet."

I nodded, my eyes scanning the hallway. "Let them watch. They'll figure it out soon enough."

After the final bell rang, signaling the end of the school day, Selene and I walked together outside, away from the prying eyes of the other students. The mist from the forest was rolling in again, and the air had a crisp chill to it.

"I'm glad we're here," I said softly, glancing at her. "It feels right. You feel right."

Selene's lips curled into a smile, one that was both soft and dangerous. "I've chosen this, too. No regrets."

As we walked toward the forest's edge, the weight of everything began to settle in. This was just the beginning of something new, something powerful, and I knew the world around us would change as we chose our path.

And as we disappeared into the mist, I knew the Cullens and everyone else would soon learn that we were not here to be ordinary students. We were here to reshape everything.
