Chapter 27 - Chapter 10: Sister?

"Lets explore for now!" Ji-hye said

"Okay" Elaine answers

"So, how did you like the church?"

"It's beautiful....."

"Yeah, it is. I'm glad you enjoyed yourself."

"Yeah...."

"What's wrong, Elaine?"

"I... I'm scared, teacher."

"Why are you scared?"

"I... I don't know if I can handle this. Being a mage, being the princess..."

"Elaine, listen to me. You're going to be fine. I promise."

"Really?!?!"

"Yes, really."

"How do you know?"

"Because I know you. You're smart, strong, and brave. You can handle anything."

"You... You really think so?"

"I do."

"Thank you, teacher."

"Anytime, Elaine."

Since the church is huge and they're in the middle of nowhere, the guards who are assigned to escort the princess and Ji-hye find them randomly

"Ah, you're here. I was just about to send someone to look for you."

"Sorry for that we got lost." Ji-hye apologizes.

"Sorry? Lady you shouldn't apologise-" the guard is startled

"Its alright. Come follow me" the other guard says

"Wait i shouldnt?" Ji-hye asks the guard.

"I mean, yeah. You're a noble, why are you apologizing?" the first guard asks.

"Oh? I'm not a noble, I'm just a mage." Ji-hye replies.

"A mage? But you look so young..." the guard says.

"I'm 18 years old." Ji-hye answers.

"W-what?! That's impossible!" the guard exclaims.

"I told you she's special, didn't I?" the second guard says.

"You're right...The lady is really something else." the first guard replies.

"Come on, let's go." the second guard says.

The two guards lead Ji-hye and Elaine to a room in the upper floors of the church. It's a small room, but it has a bed, a desk, and a chair.

"This will be your room while you stay here, Lady Ji-hye and your highness" the second guard says.

"Thank you." Ji-hye says.

The two guards leave the room.

"Well, this is our room. It's not much, but it'll do for now." Ji-hye says.

"It's okay, teacher." Elaine says.

"Do you want to sleep now? Or do you want to stay up a bit longer?" Ji-hye asks.

"I want to stay up a little bit longer, if that's okay." Elaine answers.

"Alright, then. We can stay up for a bit." Ji-hye says.

Ji-hye and Elaine sit down on the bed.

"So, what do you want to talk about?" Ji-hye asks.

"I... I don't know..." Elaine replies.

"Well, I'm sure we can figure out something to talk about." Ji-hye says.

"What do you like to do for fun?" Elaine asks.

"Hmm... Well, I like to read." Ji-hye answers.

"Really? What kind of books do you like?" Elaine asks.

"All kinds. Fantasy, romance, mystery... Anything really." Ji-hye replies.

"Mmmm? there are books on fantasy?" Elaine asks.

"Yeah, there are." Ji-hye answers.

"Wow... I've never read a book like that before..." Elaine says.

"Oh. I guess for you this is my fantasy world." Ji-hye says.

"Your fantasy world?" Elaine asks.

"Yeah... Like, your world is probably full of magic and stuff like that." Ji-hye says.

"Magic? Yeah, I guess so...?" Elaine replies.

"Well, I don't have any magic. And I don't live in a palace. My world is... different than yours." Ji-hye says.

"WHAAAAAA? You are from a different world?!?!?" elaine exclaims

"Yeah..." Ji-hye answers.

"What's your world like?" Elaine asks.

"Uhh... It's hard to explain. It's different, that's for sure." Ji-hye replies.

"How is it different?" Elaine asks.

"Well, there's no magic there. And people don't live in castles. Everyone lives in these big houses called apartments." Ji-hye explains.

"No magic?!?!?!" Elaine exclaims.

"No. And everyone has these things called cars. They're like carriages, but they can move without horses." Ji-hye explains.

"Cars?!?!?! Carriages without horses?!?!?!?!?!" Elaine exclaims.

"Yeah, it's pretty crazy." Ji-hye says.

"What else is different about your world?" Elaine asks.

"Hmm... Well, people don't have servants. Everyone has to work for a living. And there are all these machines that do all sorts of things. Like washing clothes, cooking food, cleaning houses..." Ji-hye explains.

"What else?" Elaine asks.

"Well, I guess you could say that everyone is equal in my world. There aren't any nobles or kings or anything like that." Ji-hye says.

"That's crazy..." Elaine says.

"Yeah, I guess it is..." Ji-hye says.

"So, if you're not a noble or a mage, what are you?" Elaine asks.

"Hmmmm, I was a student in my world before I came here" Ji-hye replies

"OOO! We also have the royal academy here!" Elaine exclaims.

"You guys have a royal academy?" Ji-hye asks.

"Yeah, it's where all the nobles and mages go to study." Elaine explains.

"Cool... I guess this place isn't so different from my world after all." Ji-hye says.

"Yeah, I guess not..." Elaine says.

"Let me show you something from my world." Ji-hye says as she reaches into her pocket.

She pulls out a small rectangular device.

"This is called a smartphone." Ji-hye explains.

"A smartphone?" Elaine asks.

"Yeah, it's this thing that lets you do all sorts of things." Ji-hye explains.

"What kinds of things?" Elaine asks.

"Well, you can call people. Like with a magic circle, but you don't have to draw it." Ji-hye explains.

"Wow... That sounds amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!..." Elaine says.

"You can also send messages. Like letters, but you don't have to write them." Ji-hye explains.

"thatsTHATAShat's so cool..." Elaine says.

"You can also do all sorts of other things with it. Like read books, watch videos, play games..." Ji-hye explains.

"... I want one." Elaine says.

"Well, I'm sorry. I don't have an extra one." Ji-hye replies.

"Awwwww....." Elaine says.

"If I could get back at my world again I would get you one" Ji-hye adds

"Really?!?!?" Elaine exclaims.

"Yeah." Ji-hye says.

"Wow... Thank you, teacher!" Elaine says.

"You're welcome." Ji-hye says.

"I wish I could go to your world..." Elaine says.

"Same..." Ji-hye answers but in a mono tone.

Her face turns a bit of a sad frown.

"Teacher? Are you okay?" Elaine asks.

"Hmmm? What?" Ji-hye asks.

"Are you okay?" Elaine asks again.

"Oh... Yeah, I'm fine." Ji-hye says.

"You don't sound okay..." Elaine says.

"I'm fine, really. I was just thinking about something." Ji-hye says.

"What were you thinking about?" Elaine asks.

"Oh its just I don't really want to go to my world again" Ji-hye answers

"Why not???" Elaine asks.

"Its nothing..." Ji-hye answers.

"Teacher... Tell me what's wrong." Elaine says.

Ji-hye sighs. "I don't know, I just don't feel like going back." she answers.

"Why not? Is it because of me?" Elaine asks.

"No, it's not that. It's just...My childhood has been rough." Ji-hye answers.

"What do you mean?" Elaine asks.

"Well...I don't really had good parents. I mean, they were okay, but...I just feel like I've been alone for so long, they always wanted me to match what they wanted instead of what I needed, and neglected my feelings"

"That's terrible! teacher..." Elaine says.

"Yeah... I guess it is. But that's just how it is, you know?" Ji-hye says.

"I'm sorry, teacher." Elaine says.

"It's okay, don't worry about it. It's in the past, anyway." Ji-hye says.

"But it still hurts you, right?" Elaine asks.

"Yeah... I guess it does. But I can't do anything about it. It's not like I can go back in time and change the past. BUT you. When I first saw you, you were also making the same face as me back then, you looked like you were burdened by responsibilities" Ji-hye says

"Teacher..." Elaine says.

"Ah! I'm sorry, I'm making the mood down aren't I?" Ji-hye says

"No, its okay. I want to know more about you." Elaine says.

"So that's why I want to be there for you, when there was nobody for me in my childhood" Ji-hye adds

"I understand, teacher.....Thank you. You're the best teacher I've had" Elaine says.

"Yeah... Just make sure that you do your best, alright?" Ji-hye says.

"Okay... I will!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Elaine says.

"Good." Ji-hye says.

They sit in silence for a few moments.

"So... Do you want to sleep now?" Ji-hye asks.

"I'm not sleepy yet..." Elaine says.

"Well, we can talk some more, if you want." Ji-hye says.

"Okay." Elaine says.

"So... What do you want to talk about?" Ji-hye asks.

"Hmmm... I don't know..." Elaine says.

"What's your favorite color?" Ji-hye asks.

"I like blue." Elaine answers.

"That's a nice color. My favorite color is red." Ji-hye says.

"Its like your eyes! Red is a nice color too." Elaine says.

"Yeah, it is." Ji-hye says.

"What's your favorite food?" Ji-hye asks.

"Hmmm... I like sweet things." Elaine says.

"Really? What kind of sweet things?" Ji-hye asks.

"Like cakes and pies." Elaine says.

"I like those too!!!!" Ji-hye says.

"What's your favorite food?" Elaine asks.

"I like spicy food. Like curry." Ji-hye answers.

"Curry? What's that?" Elaine asks.

"It's this dish from my world. It's really good." Ji-hye says.

"Really? Can you make it?" Elaine asks.

"Yeah, I can. If we get the ingredients, I can make it for you sometime." Ji-hye says.

"Okay! I want to try it!!!!!!!!!" Elaine says.

"Alright, then. It's a deal." Ji-hye says.

They talk some more until Elaine starts to yawn.

"I guess you're getting tired now, huh?" Ji-hye asks.

"Yeah... I think so...." Elaine says.

"Okay, let's go to bed then." Ji-hye says.

"Okay." Elaine says.

The two of them get into their beds.

"Goodnight, teacher." Elaine says.

"Goodnight, Elaine." Ji-hye says.

"teacher." Elaine says.

"mmm?"

"Can I hold your hand?" elaine asks

"I mean sure" Ji-hye replies

Elaine reaches out and takes Ji-hye's hand.

"I'm happy....." Elaine whispers to herself.

Elaine's soft breathing fills the room.

"I-I see.." Ji-hye answers

"I'm glad you're here, teacher. Thank you for being with me." Elaine says.

"You're welcome, princess" Ji-hye says

Elaine squeezes Ji-hye's hand.

"Thank you, sister..." she whispers

Elaine's drifts off to sleep.

Ji-hye's eyes open wide.

'SISTER?!'

She looks at the sleeping princess and smiles.

'Maybe this world isn't so bad after all.'

They are still holding hands.

'This feels nice.....helping someone same as me'

She closes her eyes, and falls asleep as well.
