Chapter 25 - chapter 25

(Somewhere Else)

The sun was already beginning to set, painting the sky in shades of orange, when Nativity hurried out of the house. The neighborhood where Claudete lived was simple, with busy streets and voices echoing through the narrow alleys. Inside the small house, Claudete was sprawled on the bed, eyes closed, pretending not to hear the order Nativity had given her before leaving.

Nativity: (yelling from the door) Claudete, come wash the dishes!

Claudete: (mumbling, without opening her eyes) I'm still gathering strength, Nativity.

Nativity rolled her eyes, placing her hands on her hips.

Nativity: (irritated) Fine, but I'm leaving now, and when I come back, I want the dishes clean!

Claudete: (murmuring) Alright, N.

As soon as the door closed, Claudete turned over in bed with a victorious smile.

Claudete: I'm just going to sleep!

Sleep quickly enveloped her, and soon she was deep in a wonderful dream.

Claudete: (waking up abruptly) Ah! What a wonderful dream I had!

She barely had time to stretch when a loud noise echoed through the house.

Nativity: (furious) CLAUDETE! WHY ARE THE DISHES STILL DIRTY?!

Claudete blinked, confused, before realizing she had completely forgotten the task.

Claudete: Ah… I kind of forgot.

Nativity: (gritting her teeth) Go wash the dishes now!

Claudete: I need to gather strength!

Nativity: (even more irritated) No! You're washing them right now, you lazy girl!

Claudete: (huffing) Fine, bitter one.

Dragging her feet, Claudete went to the kitchen and started washing the dishes, muttering to herself.

Claudete: (while scrubbing a plate) Bitter one, can't a person sleep in peace in their own home?

Nativity: (yelling from the living room) What are you mumbling about, Claudete?

Claudete: (looking away) Nothing.

Nativity: GOOD!

Claudete: (whispering to herself) But you're still bitter and lazy…

Claudete suddenly screamed, "Nhama, Nhama, nhamaaaaaa!"

(At Night)

Later that night, Claudete lay on the couch, phone in hand, ready to watch her favorite drama.

Nativity: Claudete, Vive o Amor is about to start!

Claudete: I'll watch it on my phone.

Nativity: Alright.

The phone screen shone in her eyes when suddenly, everything around her went dark. A strange sensation coursed through her body, as if she were being pulled into an unknown place.

When she opened her eyes again, she was no longer in her living room.

(In Vide's Realm)

Claudete found herself in a vast, misty space, where everything seemed made of an ethereal glow. The air was dense and pulsating, as if it were alive. She looked around, feeling a chill down her spine.

Claudete: (confused) Where am I?

A voice echoed from nowhere, filling the space with a mysterious tone.

Mysterious Voice: You've always dreamed of living the lives of the characters you see on TV, haven't you?

Claudete: (looking around) Who's talking?!

A figure emerged before her. He was tall, draped in a dark cloak, with eyes shining like stars.

Vide: I am Vide, and this is the space where everything happens.

Claudete: (nervous) Am I dead?!

Vide: (rolling his eyes) No! Unfortunately, you're not dead yet.

Claudete: (relieved) Oh, thank goodness… (pauses, frowning) Wait a minute, what do you mean "not yet" dead?!

Vide: I have a mission for you, Claudete.

Claudete: (crossing her arms) What do you mean, Vide?

Vide: You must travel to a kingdom called New Chin.

Claudete: (taking a step back) No! I'm not going anywhere!

Claudete: (thinking) If I go there, when do I come back?

Vide: When you complete your mission.

Claudete: (sarcastic) Then I'm not going! (pauses) Wait… What's my mission?

Vide: You need to find the Heart of Wishes, which some idiot lost there.

Claudete: (exasperated) No way! Unless I can come back to my world whenever I want!

Vide: (shaking his head) Of course not! If you do, the idiot will be discovered and lose his lifelong job.

Claudete: (annoyed) Then let him find someone else!

Vide: (smiling mischievously) You were chosen for this wonderful mission, full of adventures… and no risk of death!

Claudete: (suspicious) If I die there, what happens?

Vide: (sighing) Uh, you die, isn't that obvious?

Claudete: (huffing) So am I going back home or not?!

Vide: When people die in your world, do they go back home?

Claudete: (laughing loudly) Ha! Ha! Ha!

Vide: (confused) What did I say that was so funny?

Claudete: (still laughing) Of course not! I'm just laughing at how dumb you are.

Vide: (smiling too) I am not dumb! And to think I thought you were as dumb as a rock.

Claudete: (defiant) Just send me home already!

Vide: (putting his hand on his forehead, exasperated) Ugh! You really are dumb.

Claudete: (crossing her arms) You're the dumb one.

Vide: (tilting his head) You do realize I'm a man, right?

Claudete: (mocking laughter) You're a fool, chinchilla-brained idiot.

Vide: (sighing) Enough. I'm sending you to New Chin.

Claudete: (pointing a finger) I hope you get punished for this!

Vide smirked devilishly before shoving her into a black hole that suddenly opened beneath her feet.

Vide: (yelling as she fell) Watch out for your husband's enemies!

Claudete: (screaming in free fall) YOU NEVER SAID I WOULDN'T DIIIIIIIIIE!

And then, everything went dark.
