After making sure the door was securely closed, Kael gently sat Tessa down on a chair in his room. Her right foot was bandaged and resting on a soft pillow. He was carefully tending to the wound, his hands moving with practiced precision, though his thoughts were elsewhere.
Tessa winced slightly, but smiled at him, watching his focused movements. "I didn't know the famous assassin had a child," she said, breaking the silence.
Kael's hand faltered for a second, but he quickly resumed his task. He didn't want to tell her that Flora was a flower turned into a human; it was complicated enough as it was. Instead, he simply gave a nonchalant response.
"Yeah, she's my child," he said, keeping his tone calm, not looking her way.
Tessa raised an eyebrow, but she didn't press further. There was something strange about the way Kael said it, but she let it slide. She was more concerned about the mission. "So... the team escaped safely, right?"
"I guess so," Kael replied, finishing up the bandaging. "They're good at handling themselves."
Before Tessa could respond, Kael's phone buzzed. He picked it up, seeing an incoming call from the council. Sighing, he answered it, not looking forward to the upcoming conversation.
"Kael, we need you at the council meeting. It's urgent," came the voice on the other end.
Kael's face scrunched up in frustration. He had promised Flora that they would go get ice cream, and now he was being summoned to the council.
Tessa noticed his reaction and raised an eyebrow. "You look like you're in a bit of a bind. What's going on?"
"I promised Flora..." Kael trailed off, not sure how to explain it. "I promised her ice cream today, but now... I have to go to this meeting."
Tessa chuckled lightly, seeing his dilemma. "I can go to the council meeting for you. Just tell them you're busy because of your injury."
Kael blinked at her in surprise. "You'll cover for me?"
"Of course," Tessa said, standing up carefully. "You've done enough. I'll go in your place and let you know what there's said."
Kael seemed unsure, but then he sighed. "Alright. Just don't cause too much trouble, okay?"
Tessa smiled at him with a wink. "Trouble is my middle name."
As Tessa prepared to leave, Flora appeared in the doorway, holding her flower doll and staring at her with wide, innocent eyes. "You're leaving?" she asked, her small voice filled with curiosity.
Tessa stopped and knelt down to Flora's height. "I'm sorry, little one, but I have to go take care of something," she said, her voice soft. "But don't worry, I'll come back. We'll play together like I promised, okay?"
Flora's eyes sparkled with excitement. "Okay! I'll wait for you!" she said, hugging her doll tightly.
Tessa stood up and turned to Kael. "I'll keep an eye on the council meeting for you. You make sure you keep your promise, alright?"
Kael nodded, a soft smile tugging at his lips. "Thanks, Tessa. I owe you one."
With that, Tessa left the house, and Flora, now content with the promise of fun, turned her attention to the flower doll in her arms,
And After that he's finally get his ice cream.
