Chereads / Juliet And Romeo / Chapter 2 - The Auction

Chapter 2 - The Auction

Five years later...

Juliet stepped into the opulent foyer, her stilettos clicking on the worn marble floor. The soft glow of crystal chandeliers cast a warm light on her refined features, illuminating the subtle lines of wisdom etched on her face. Her raven hair was pulled back, revealing a pair of piercing emerald eyes that seemed to hold a thousand secrets.

As she made her way to the conference room, the whisper of her silk dress echoed through the hallowed halls. The atmosphere was heavy with the weight of tradition and legacy, the scent of old leather and parchment hanging in the air.

Her secretary, James, stood up from his desk, his eyes locking onto hers with a hint of deference. "Good morning, Ms. Juliet. Your meeting is ready to begin."

James was a tall, imposing figure, his broad shoulders and chiseled features a testament to his former life as a Marine. His eyes, a deep, piercing brown, seemed to bore into those he met, as if sizing them up.

Juliet nodded, her gaze sweeping the room before coming back to rest on James. "Thank you, James. Please, show them in."

The meeting itself was a solemn affair, the gravity of the discussion reflected in the somber faces of the attendees. Juliet's expression was a mask of calm, her eyes betraying only a hint of intensity as she listened to the proposals.

As the meeting drew to a close, Juliet rose from her seat, her movements economical and precise. She was a woman who commanded respect, her very presence seeming to draw the eye.

And then, as she stepped out into the cool evening air, James approached her, a discreet smile on his face. "Ms. Juliet, you have an invitation."

He handed her a cream-colored envelope, adorned with a wax seal bearing the emblem of the prestigious Harrington Auction House.

Juliet's eyes narrowed as she took the envelope, her mind racing with possibilities. What could be inside?

In a sleek, modern office, Romeo's secretary, Maya, stood tall, her piercing gaze scanning the room. Her raven hair was pulled back into a tight ponytail, revealing a sharp jawline and full lips.

Romeo, a stunningly handsome man with chiseled features and piercing blue eyes, looked up from the papers scattered across his desk. His dark hair was perfectly styled, and his tailored suit accentuated his lean physique.

But despite his polished appearance, Romeo's eyes seemed to hold a frosty detachment, a cold calculation that belied his elegant demeanor.

"Romeo, you've got a letter," Maya said, her voice husky and confident.

Romeo's gaze locked onto Maya's, his eyes narrowing slightly as he took the cream-colored envelope from her hand. The envelope was adorned with a wax seal bearing the emblem of the prestigious Harrington Auction House.

Romeo's fingers brushed against Maya's as he took the envelope, his touch sending a subtle spark through the air.

"Ah, the Harrington Auction House," Romeo murmured, his voice low and smooth. "I've been expecting this."

Maya's eyes gleamed with interest. "The Starlight Serenity Crown. I've heard rumors it's going up for auction."

Romeo's gaze flicked to the envelope, his eyes glinting with a cold, calculated light. "Indeed. And I intend to be the one who claims it."

The air was thick with tension as Romeo opened the envelope, revealing a formal invitation to the most anticipated auction event of the year.
