Chereads / Killer Queen: Revenge on my Tormentors / Chapter 10 - 10. The Price of Vengeance

Chapter 10 - 10. The Price of Vengeance

The Vanguard's fortress loomed ahead, a converted industrial plant that hummed with energy. Its towering chimneys spewed smoke into the night sky, and the faint hum of machinery mixed with the crackle of radio chatter from armed guards. Amanda, clad in a black tactical suit, crouched behind an overturned truck just outside the perimeter. Her team—Brandon, Claire, and a reluctant Tyler—were scattered in strategic positions, waiting for her signal.

The plan was straightforward but dangerous: infiltrate the fortress, shut down their operations, and recover the fabricated faculty documents before they could be disseminated. Amanda was resolute; this would end tonight.

Through her earpiece, Brandon's voice came through, low and tense. "Guards on the west side moving to the main gate. Your path is clear, Amanda."

She exhaled sharply, signaling to Claire and Tyler. "Stick to the plan. We hit fast and hard."

Amanda darted through the shadows, her movements silent and calculated. Reaching the side door, she disabled the security panel with a device Claire had programmed. The lock clicked, and the door creaked open.

Inside, the air was stale, thick with the scent of oil and metal. Amanda's footsteps echoed faintly as she moved through dimly lit hallways, her senses on high alert.

The control room was on the top floor, and Amanda climbed the winding metal staircase with precision. As she reached the final landing, she pushed open the door to find Luna waiting for her, leaning casually against the control panel.

"You're predictable, Amanda," Luna said, her tone dripping with amusement.

Amanda leveled her gun at Luna, her crimson eyes blazing. "Shut it down. Now."

Luna's smile faltered. "You're serious, aren't you? You really think vengeance will fix anything?"

"It's not about fixing," Amanda replied coldly. "It's about justice."

Luna sighed, shaking her head. "Justice? Is that what you call this? Because from where I'm standing, it looks a lot like revenge."

Amanda's grip tightened on the gun. "Enough talking. Shut it down."

Luna raised her hands in mock surrender, stepping away from the console. "Fine. But you should know something, Amanda. Once you press that button, there's no going back—not for you, not for anyone."

Amanda ignored her and moved to the control panel. The glowing screens displayed data streams and network activity, a labyrinth of chaos orchestrated by The Vanguard.

With steady hands, Amanda began inputting the shutdown sequence Claire had designed. As she worked, Luna circled her like a predator.

"You're impressive, Amanda," Luna said softly. "But you're also a fool. This vengeance you're so obsessed with—it's going to consume you."

Amanda didn't reply. The final keystroke activated the shutdown, and the room went dark as the servers powered down.

The silence didn't last. Alarms blared, red lights flashing as Luna lunged at Amanda, a blade glinting in her hand.

Amanda dodged, narrowly avoiding the strike, and countered with a swift kick to Luna's side. The two women clashed in a brutal fight, their movements a blur of calculated strikes and desperate blocks.

Outside, Brandon's voice came through Amanda's earpiece. "We've got company! Backup's arrived, and they're armed to the teeth!"

"Hold them off!" Amanda shouted, her focus on Luna.

Luna was a skilled fighter, but Amanda's training under Emilia had honed her into a lethal weapon. With a final, devastating blow, Amanda disarmed Luna and pinned her to the ground.

"It's over," Amanda said, her voice low and steady.

Luna laughed, blood staining her teeth. "You think this ends with me? The Vanguard is bigger than you can imagine. You've won nothing."

Amanda didn't respond. She tied Luna's hands and left her for Claire and Tyler to handle.

As Amanda descended the stairs, gunfire and explosions echoed through the plant. She regrouped with Brandon, who was bleeding from a shallow wound on his arm.

"They're falling back," he said. "But we need to move. This place is rigged to blow."

Amanda nodded, her body weary but her mind resolute. "Get everyone out. I'll make sure the files are destroyed."

Brandon hesitated. "Amanda—"

"Go!" she snapped.

Reluctantly, Brandon retreated, leaving Amanda to finish the job.

In the central server room, Amanda found the physical backups of The Vanguard's data. Setting the charges, she took a moment to steady herself.

Her mind drifted to the faces of her tormentors—Jason, Heather, the others. She had brought them down, exposed their lies, and dismantled their power. But at what cost?

The timer on the explosives ticked down.

As Amanda exited the server room, an explosion rocked the plant. Flames and debris filled the air, and Amanda was thrown against a wall. Pain shot through her body, but she pushed herself to her feet, coughing as smoke filled her lungs.

Her earpiece crackled. "Amanda, where are you?!" Claire's panicked voice shouted.

"I'm almost out," Amanda lied.

She stumbled toward the exit, her vision blurring. Her body screamed in protest, but she forced herself forward.

When she reached the final hallway, another explosion ripped through the plant, and the ceiling began to collapse.

Amanda fell to her knees, her strength finally giving out. Blood trickled from a wound on her temple, and her breaths came in ragged gasps.

Through the haze, she saw the night sky beyond the ruined walls. She smiled faintly.

It's over.

Her earpiece crackled one last time. "Amanda, we're coming for you!" Claire's voice was desperate.

Amanda closed her eyes, tears slipping down her cheeks. "I did it... I won."

The final explosion engulfed the plant, and Amanda Flash—Killer Queen—was no more.

Weeks later, the school was quiet, the chaos finally settled. The Vanguard's remnants were scattered, their influence broken.

In the center of the campus, a memorial stood in Amanda's honor, inscribed with the words:

"In memory of Amanda Flash, who fought for justice in a world of shadows. May her light never fade."

Claire and Brandon stood before it, their expressions solemn.

"She gave everything," Brandon said quietly.

Claire nodded, her heart heavy. "She saved us all. But she paid the price."

As the sun set, casting a golden glow over the memorial, the words seemed to shimmer—a testament to the girl who had sacrificed everything to set things right.
