Prologue

Sargent now Lieutenant Yelce K. Uelas stood in front of a crowd. He had no use for the kerfuffle the city was making over him, but he understood their reasoning. They needed someone to stick up as a hero, a human being that could be used to give the people some faith in the military. He did do the thing they're praising him for and he would gladly accept any award they would give him.

The ceremony was brief yet overdramatic, with the badge being given to him directly by the Director of Militia and Law, a thousand or so citizens as witnesses, and just as many officers of the city.

"It is the work of this brave man here that enabled hundreds to be able to live." the speech was flattering enough, though would be more impactful if it wasn't the exact words used by his superior officer in his official report. He'd play their games for now because he knew where this would lead and he very much wanted to get his reward for his acts.

"We as a city have not seen such power, as well as the virtue this man has shown. As such we as a department reward him with the position of Lieutenant as well as his request of forming his unit." Now they were getting to the things he cared about. "We will now give some time to Lieutenant Uelas."

The expectation for his speech was to say how well the department was doing and how he planned to further its cause. Instead, he decided to throw all of that out of the window and talk about his new pet project. "It is my honor to announce that I will be holding tryouts for all the soul weavers in the city for my new unit. All are permitted to join as long as you are a soul weaver of some degree. For too long we have underutilized our power to help our people and instead put ourselves on a pedestal for being born different, which is why this is a call to arms to civilians and nobles alike to help better the people of The City of Yolciph."

Without saying another word he left the stage. Only after he was off did he realize he gave no information about his tryouts. Oh well, he wasn't the most worried about that. He planned to find most of his recruits on his own anyways.
