Chapter 1 - Log 457

Everything feels cold, colder than it should feel. Colder than what I'm used to. I'm panting heavily on the ground, beads of sweat and blood dripping from my face. I could feel a spiking pain on the right side of my face, but the adrenaline pumping through my blood gave me the ability to completely ignore it. I can't really see much, my eyes were blurry and teary. I could make out a man standing roughly five feet in front of me, his face somewhat distorted with a gun in his hand. A faint wind blew through my hair, as I felt there was a cold, yet heavy weight in my arms.

Adiva…

Slowly, I glanced down into my arms and was met with a dead stare. My heart rate spiked in that moment, my breath hitching in my throat. At this point, I could feel my heart beating— no, pounding in my ears. Her face morphed, eyes sinking into hollow sockets. Her jaw widened, dislocating with a sickening crack. I couldn't move. I just sat there, frozen, as the dead stared back…I can't move… I just sat there, mortified, unable to get even a sound out of my mouth…

"You did this to me…."

No… I—I didn't mean to.. I'm sorry—

Before I could even react, she lunged at me. Her face and body bloody, her hair disheveled and her face… contorted… her eyes weren't a lovely hue of blue anymore, but a dirty black that I couldn't even recognize anymore…..

 ***

I woke up in a cold sweat, Again…. I groaned quietly from my lips, rubbing my face with my hands after sighing tiredly…

It's the same type of dream, over and over and over again… for how long? I think I've lost track by now. I heard a faint static, and distortion for a moment, quiet whispers, but only briefly before they went away just as subtly as they came. After gathering my bearings and will to live, I glanced over at the clock beside my nightstand.

4 hours and some minutes into the System Hour….

"Fuck my life…."

I mumbled into my hands, slapping my face to wake myself up. There's no point in me trying to fall asleep again, since I'll just be staring at my Alloy covered ceiling. Might as well start my day with the good ol' fashion sleep deprivation. Wincing at the bright lights, in my bathroom it took about two business days for my eyes to adjust before I started my usual 'morning' routine. Wash my face, brush my teeth, yada yada, and I'm done.

Wandering over to my kitchen, my slippers sounding against my steel floors, I rummaged around in my fridge for any leftovers. I grumbled at the miraculous luck I have, being met face to face with a simple bowl of rice and several slices of meat…

Great

I probably need to cook myself something for the next few days. Hell, I might actually need to do some grocery shopping. I've been putting that off for some days now, that's probably not a good thing, but hush, that's just between you and me.

"Sora, can you grab me the usual stuff..? I can't be bothered to go through the catalog…."

I groaned. There was a small beep coming from my watch, before a holographic figure shot out of it. A familiar white haired figure with his usual easygoing smile, waving at me with his little finger.

"Sure! I can do that"

A few holographic screens popped up as he did his little thing. It's nice having a little digital assistant with me wherever I go. Though, this one I might've programmed to be a little more sassier than I'd like to be…

"Say, friend…. up early again, hm?"

"I feel like you know the answer to that question already, you dunce."

This man really gasped aloud like he got shot. I can practically feel him place a hand on his chest, gasping dramatically as if I just killed his non-existent mother.

"How could you call me such a crude name?? I thought we were friends…"

I just rolled my eyes with a quiet huff, chowing down on about three days old, refrigerated food.

"So, what's on the agenda today?"

I didn't respond for a solid minute, quietly chewing my food while staring at nothing in particular before I spoke.

"Hm… just the usual, any leads so far?"

An exhausted sigh was heard from him as if he's been doing manual labor for hours at a time.

"'The usual' nothing much so far. For now, I just think we should find you a bounty to catch to live off of for some days. Don't worry, I'll let you know if something pops up!"

A faint groan was heard from me at the news of 'nothing' again. Can you believe it? Nothing??? You'd think it's easy as hell to find one man. After all, how hard can it be? Just give his name, birthday and you've got him! Hell no, this bastard has roughly 40 aliases over the years, and at least over ten thousand potential addresses. Did I go through them all? Yes, yes I did. And what did I find? You guessed it, absolutely fucking nothing….

Familiar, yet faint whisper made its way back into my head rather comfortably. I can never hear what they say. Some of them are distant, and some of them are so close, it's like I could feel their breath on my cheek and ear. Yet whenever I turn to look, obviously there's nothing there. Even if the whispers are faint and pervasive, I can certainly feel their eyes staring at me. Like… staring at me…. Hands grasping at my legs, arms, body, neck and face…

I let out a short exhale, closing my eyes as I shook my head, as if that would shake the ever-present feeling away. Even if they stop, I know they're not truly gone. They'll come back one way or another just to fuck with me. I glanced out towards my floor-to-ceiling windows, staring out at the empty vastness of space, trillions of stars occupying the sky with a pensive expression.

For Aos' sake, I can feel my sanity slipping day by day… but I remind myself who that slimy fucker is… and just how many potential lives that he's ruined and got away with.

Not me though, I'm a petty bitch, so if you fuck around with me? Best believe I'm hunting you down until I make sure your head's sliced clean off of your shoulders.
