Olivia's POV;
"Olivia, Olivia, Livvy!" Anna shrieked, yanking the duvet off me and shaking me awake.
She waved her laptop wildly, her face alight with excitement. "Wake up, crazy girl! You got the job!"
Groggily, I sat up, trying to process Anna's frantic words.
"Livvy, get ready for work …you're hired!" she squealed, holding up her laptop as proof. "You got an email from Williams Enterprises!"
My eyes snapped wide as the news sank in. "Me?" I asked, still disbelieving, needing confirmation.
Anna grinned, her face radiant with excitement. "Yes, bitch …you!"
I threw off the covers and jumped out of bed, my heart racing with excitement. "But how?" I asked Anna, still trying to wrap my head around the news.
"I insulted him at the club, and then I spilled coffee all over him at the office. What are the chances?"
Anna shrugged, still grinning. "Maybe he likes feisty women? Or maybe he just wants to torture you."
I rolled my eyes, but I couldn't shake off the feeling that something wasn't quite right. I mean, I had been pretty harsh on him at the club, and then the coffee incident...it was a wonder he didn't hate me.
I walked over to Anna's laptop and took it from her, scrolling through the email. It was a formal offer letter from Williams Enterprises, detailing the job description, salary, and benefits.
Everything looked perfect, but I just couldn't shake off the feeling that there was more to it.
"Anna, I need to talk to him," I said, making a decision. "I need to know why he hired me despite everything."
Anna raised an eyebrow. "You're going to turn down the job?"
I shook my head. "No, I just need some answers. Can you help me get in touch with him?"
"No, Livvy, you don't know what you're getting yourself into," Anna said, her voice laced with a warning.
But then her tone shifted, becoming firm and encouraging. "You need this, Livvy. You need something to fill the void and keep your mind off Martin. So get up, get ready, and take this job."
Anna's words struck a chord.
She was right, I did need this. And I was going to take it.
But one thing was certain: I was going to have a conversation with my new boss, no matter how awkward it might be.
***
I stepped into the office building, my heart racing with excitement and nerves.
This was it, my first day at work. I took a deep breath and smoothed out my dress, trying to calm my jitters.
As I rode the elevator, I mentally prepared myself for the day ahead.
When the doors opened, I was greeted by Kate, the friendly HR representative who had interviewed me.
"Hey Olivia, welcome to your first day! I'll show you to your desk." I smiled, feeling a little more at ease, and followed Stacy through the office.
As we walked, I noticed a guy watching me from across the room. He smiled and waved, and Kate followed my gaze.
"That's Ben, one of our team members. He's great, you'll love working with him." I smiled and waved back, feeling a sense of relief that I might have already found a friend.
But my calm was short-lived, as Kate led me to the office of my boss, Mr. Williams. He looked up from his desk, his eyes narrowing as he took in my appearance.
"Ah, our new recruit, the clumsy one" he said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "Welcome to the team, Olivia. I trust you're ready to get to work?"
I nodded, trying to hide my intimidation. "Yes, sir. I'm eager to learn and contribute." Mr. Williams raised an eyebrow, and I could sense a challenge in his gaze.
He handed me a thick stack of files. "I need you to organize these files alphabetically, and then bring them back to me. And don't bother coming back until you've done it correctly."
Immediately, Anna's words echoed in my mind: "Maybe he wants to frustrate you." I tried to brush off the ominous feeling, but it lingered.
The memory of her warning seemed prophetic, as if she had foreseen the challenges ahead. I pushed the thought aside, focusing on the present moment, but the unease remained.
I felt a surge of frustration, but I bit my tongue and nodded. "Yes, sir. I'll get right on it."
As I left Mr. Williams office, Ben caught up with me. "Hey, how's it going?" he asked, eyeing the stack of files in my arms.
I rolled my eyes. "It's going. My boss is a bit... intense." Ben chuckled. "That's one way to put it. Don't worry, you'll get used to him. Just remember, he's all bark and no bite".
"This is Stacy, my work bestie," Ben said with a smile. "We're all going to guide you, show you around, and most importantly, give you some tips on dealing with Mr. Johnson's wrath."
I couldn't help but stare at Ben, who had a certain feminine charm to him. It was clear he wasn't straight, but he was amusing and had a comforting aura around him.
"Hi, Olivia, I'm Stacy," said the lady with long black hair and piercing blue eyes. "We're glad to have you here with us."
I was taken aback by their kindness. I had expected everyone to be like Nelly, my difficult former coworker. But Stacy and Ben were different. Nice and kind colleagues did exist!
"I'm good, Stacy, thank you," I replied, still beaming with excitement. Stacy chuckled and patted me on the back
"We'll take good care of you Olivia. And don't worry, we'll teach you all the tricks for surviving Mr Williams..erm...'enthusiasm'." They both laughed, and I couldn't help but join in, feeling like I was finally part of a community that valued kindness
I smiled, feeling a little better. Maybe this job wouldn't be so bad after all.
Williams POV;
I leaned back in my chair, steepling my fingers together as I watched Olivia scurry out of my office.
I couldn't help but chuckle to myself as I thought about the look on her face when I handed her that stack of files.
She was so eager to please, so desperate to make a good impression. It was almost... entertaining
I found myself looking forward to seeing how she would react to the next task I had in store for her.
I glanced down at the file on my desk, the one with Olivia's resume and background check.
She was a smart girl, no doubt about it. But she was also naive, sprinkled with a bit of stubbornness and that was what made her so... amusing.
I smiled to myself as I thought about the various ways I could torment her. Make her do pointless tasks, give her impossible deadlines, call her into my office for meaningless meetings... The possibilities were endless.
And the best part was, she would take it all so seriously. She would stress and worry and try to please me, never realizing that it was all just a game.
I leaned forward, my eyes gleaming with amusement. This was going to be fun.
But my moment of triumph was short-lived, as my phone suddenly rang, shrill and insistent. I glanced at the screen, my eyes narrowing as I answered.
"Mike," I said, my voice low and smooth.
"Don't forget, we meet at midnight," Mike's voice was urgent, laced with a hint of warning. "The warehouse. We have to take care of him."
