Chapter 20 - Chapter 20 : What the hell is that

Silvan sat down, recovering Qi using the leftover pills he had, leaving a few low poison curing pills and some white pills in the pouch he got from the Wind Palace disciple.

Which were completely useless. They were Breakthrough Pills.Considering how he broke through just by killing monsters.

Silvan checked the penalty time.

[Penalty: Upon being killed by a cultivator, creation of double body is restricted. Remaining time: 34 minutes]

Silvan sighed and closed it.

"The world of Altera should have been opened completely by now," he muttered.

What YunYun told him, this sealed world also gave something called an Ascension Token. Obtaining one granted the opportunity to pass through the World Barrier, giving access to the other sub-sealed worlds.

"So you're telling me there are five of them?"

YunYun nodded. "Yes. In this cycle, all five of them will open. So it's not a lie to say many will die in this cycle."

Silvan nodded, processing everything. There were five sealed worlds within Altera that much he understood.

Each had its own resources, while three of them contained their own ecosystems, a livable environment for humans.

He needed to recover. His Qi were running low not completely empty, but dangerously close to running out. The pills were working slowly, recovering his Qi.

He turned his gaze toward the Verdant Heart Pool, the mist rolling off its surface like a soft breath. The water held an abundance of nature based Qi, which passively replenished his dungeon structures. But now, he needed it for himself.

He sat down right beside it, his tendrils dangling on his shoulders. The Qi Siphon skill wasn't activated, but they still absorbed Qi passively.

It wasn't instant, but his Qi was gradually returning.

"Much better."

Silvan stood up, stretching his arms. Now that he had enough Qi to work with, he could recreate his double body.

The penalty had long been removed, but his Qi hadn't, so it took some time.

[Double Body Created]

[Duration: 3 Hours]

[Link Established]

Silvan closed his eyes and switched to his double body. The outside should be full of people, according to what YunYun had told him, including dangers that made monsters more active. But Silvan knew it also unlocked new opportunities, and he couldn't waste such an opportunity by just waiting in the dungeon.

Silvan picked up Solar Flare Edge and strapped it on his back. The last fight had made him realize something important. Danger was unavoidable. Being prepared wasn't. Last time, he hadn't taken this seriously for its appearance, but now he knows, It was better to be stronger and gain some dangers than just to be weak.

Perhaps if he had it, he might have been able to take down one of the disciples, at least.

YunYun flew over to his shoulder.

"Weren't you tired?" Silvan asked. Truth be told, he had taken a good amount of blood from him.

"I am, but it's better to go explore and look for a Qi pool."

Silvan nodded and stepped out of his dungeon. The dungeon door closed on its own, making Silvan nod his head. With the door shut, his dungeon wasn't as visible anymore, and it also blocked the core's energy, making it seem like there was nothing here.

Silvan's foot barely touched the ground when his senses screamed at him.

Move!

He didn't think, his body reacted on instincts. He twisted to the side.

SPLASH!

A dark green ball of liquid hissed as it splattered against the ground he had just been standing on. The soil sizzled, blackening instantly, fumes rising from the impact site.

Poison.

Silvan's gaze snapped upward.

Perched upside down on a thick tree branch, limbs wrapped tightly around the bark, was a creature glaring at him, tilting its head.

[???? – 4th Stage of Body Tempering]

YunYun shouted, "What the hell is that?!"

Its skin was slick, green, a constant sheen of toxic secretion rolling off its body. Its elongated limbs gripped the tree unnaturally, bent at angles that shouldn't have been possible.

And its tongue,it was long, dripping with the same venom that had just scorched the ground.

"A Kymer," Silvan muttered.

His fingers curled around his sword hilt. "Tch. Just my luck," he muttered.

The creature twitched, its glowing red eyes locked onto him.

Then its jaw opened wide again.

Silvan's instincts flared. He jumped.

SPLASH!

Another poison shot blasted past, burning through the air where his head had been.

Midair, Silvan's Vein Eyes activated, tracking the movement of Qi within the creature's body. His pupils narrowed.

Then it moved.

The Kymer launched itself from the tree, twisting mid-air, its claws snapping open.

It was fast.

Silvan had no time to block. Instead, he sent forth Qi strings, latching onto the trees and pulling himself away.

BANG!

He yanked himself upward, flipping just in time to avoid Kymer's claws.

Silvan landed on a thick tree branch, sending some Qi onto Solar Flare Edge.

BANG!

Below, the Kymer crashed onto the ground, its claws carving deep into the earth where he had been moments ago. The poison on its limbs hissed on impact.

Its head snapped upward, glowing red eyes burning as it fixated on him.

Then its tongue shot toward him.

Silvan was prepared. He jumped from the tree and slashed mid air.

SHNK!

His strike was precise, the arc of his sword slicing through Kymer's tongue.

SPLURT!

A sickening cry followed as black-green blood sprayed into the air. The severed tongue thrashed violently before falling to the forest floor, sizzling as it corroded the ground.

The Kymer let out a guttural screech, its red eyes burning even fiercer.

"Thankfully, it hasn't evolved yet," Silvan thought, pointing his sword at it and preparing a fireball.

Seeing it, the Kymer didn't back away. Instead, it lunged again, this time without hesitation.

Faster. More aggressive.

Silvan released the fireball.

WHOOSH!

The moment Kymer leaped mid air, the fireball exploded against its chest.

BOOM!

Flames roared to life, consuming its slick green body. The toxic slime that coated its skin ignited instantly, burning hotter than normal flames should have.

The Kymer let out a screeching wail, its limbs thrashing wildly. It crashed onto the forest floor, rolling in agony, trying to extinguish the fire, but it was useless.

"Your own poison made it worse."

Then—

CRACK!

The body collapsed, motionless. The fire continued to burn until nothing remained but a charred husk.

[You have killed the ????]

Silvan narrowed his eyes as he looked at it. "No loot?"

He was confused. The system recognized them. But there was no loot or any genetic code.

"Hey, what was that thing?" YunYun asked.

Silvan opened his mouth but stopped and shook his head. "I don't know."

Truth be told, their origins were never discovered. The only thing people understood was that they were connected with Z@lther. And whenever these things appeared, a catastrophe was bound to happen.

Silvan clenched his sword and continued to gaze at it.

In a few minutes, the corpse burned completely, leaving no remains.
