In addition to everything else, the nurse, still smiling and talking to him, brought him to an elevator.
To his surprise, he heard a few words she had said before. "Okaa-san" was one of them, which he knew but couldn't recall the exact meaning.
Pondering over it for just a moment, he felt the elevator ride took only a few seconds. He couldn't be sure, but it seemed like they traveled up or down at least four floors. This confirmed to Bill that it really was a modern hospital.
Upon exiting the elevator, the view of the corridor was markedly different from the previous one. Whereas before it resembled an intensive care unit, the corridor now looked more like that of a large apartment building.
After passing several doors, the nurse finally stopped, opened a door labeled "4D," and entered.
The room's interior resembled that of a nursing home: a large bed and several machines he couldn't make out from his position.
As he was brought closer to the bed, Bill immediately sensed something was off.
It was hard to judge distances and sizes while lying down, but the woman on this bed appeared to be at least two and a half meters tall!
Mustering all his courage, Bill didn't close his eyes as the nurse lifted him. The woman on the bed was sitting up, stretching out her long arms, but even as a baby, he could tell she was weak.
"****** В****м ****************************************"
Of course, he couldn't understand what this woman was saying. Even if he could have, he probably wouldn't have heard her at that moment.
With a multitude of thoughts racing through his mind as he was handed over to this woman, he could think of only one thing.
"She's so big...He didn't feel fear like when the doctor first lifted him, but there was definitely a sense of anxiety.
Being held now, he could only think of words like "gigantism," but that seemed slightly incorrect. For starters, Bill had never seen a person of such size, like this woman who he assumed was his new mother, with such proportional features.
Most people with gigantism have abnormally shaped heads and crooked skeletons due to the strain on their bodies from rapid growth. This woman seemed younger than thirty and was quite beautiful if you overlooked the fact that the hospital gown concealed her figure. She did not seem different from ordinary people.
Bill thought something was not quite right with the woman, even though her hands were the size of his entire body. The nurse stood just over half a meter away from her, seemingly because she noticed how Bill felt.
"She's trembling."
Thinking about what any mother might want, Bill slightly turned his head towards the large woman and gave a wide, gummy smile, which triggered an immediate reaction.
Before he was even held, the woman, after seeing his smile, softly smiled back and hugged him to her chest. She was still trembling, but it had significantly lessened.
He was in his new mother's arms for only a few minutes before the nurse lifted him again. The strange part was that instead of taking him out of the room again, there was a bit of commotion: other women in white coats came in and set up a lamp, similar to the one in the room when he first woke up.
After the lamp was set up, he was brought closer to it. The doctor in black glasses returned to the room, quietly talked to the tall woman, who Bill decided to call mom, and then approached him and said something.
Not understanding a word of what the man said, Bill simply smiled again and was gently patted on the head for his efforts. Strangely, this seemed more humiliating to him than a diaper change.
Trying not to dwell on this minor feeling, Bill turned his head toward his supposed new mother. From his viewpoint, he could only see her head, while the rest of her body was out of his field of vision—too high above the floor for him to see.
As he looked at her face, she slowly turned her head toward him. Catching this moment, Bill suddenly smiled and raised his arms as high as he could.
At that moment, it seemed to him that she smiled again.
Waking up once more, Bill turned onto his stomach. Though he still controlled his body like he was drunk, every time he woke up, he played with his hands and tried to manage his motor skills. Finally, after much effort, he could now touch his face without accidentally smacking himself.
He wasn't sure how long he had spent in this room. Typically, it takes infants from three to five and a half months to roll over. However, he was uncertain about this because, as far as he knew, babies usually roll over from their stomachs to their backs first, and he had rolled directly from his back to his stomach.
Bill knew that although this might seem minor, the fact remained: infants have weak neck muscles, which usually means they need to first practice "easier" movements to become strong enough and more mobile.
