*SPLASH*
The ice-cold water slide down Daniel's face as he looked into the mirror, his breathing calming down.
The past few weeks had been more than exhilarating.
They had been unreal.
The amount of fun he had successfully had with his ability was unable to be explained with words.
Then again, you couldn't think of a limit to the fun one can have with the ability to control Probability.
As he walked out of the toilet and unto his bed, he took out a mask and ran his hands through its seams.
The mask was a customised pitch-black model, designed more for aesthetics but still serving it's purpose of air filtration.
But Daniel had completely reworked it.
[Probability of Distorting the Wearer's presence unrecognisably (Along with the presence of other disguises): 100%]
Yes, you read right.
The original probability of this was about 0.03% or so, and he originally couldn't have afforded it, even though his Energy Points had grown exponentially over the past few weeks, but he found a loophole.
The tweaked Probability made it mandatory to work in tandem with other items of relative disguise also tweaked with Fortuna's Dominion in the same way, or else the Probability of Presence distortion would fall drastically to 2.1%.
The other items were a pair of gloves, a pair of sun shades, and a hat.
He found that he actually had a semblance of control over their effects, able to either reduce or increase his presence, apart from distortion.
As for why he made these, well, let's just say aura farming.
Not Iike he was actually going to have much need for it in a peaceful society anyways.
But if there comes a day when chaos arrives...
'Spoiler Alert.' He thought jokingly.
Jokingly.
...
Daniel stepped out from his hostel in a white button shirt with rolled up sleeves under a light brown armless sweater, and faded blue jeans, complemented with a dark blue tie and a pair of brown shoes.
He wore subtle jewelry, along with a smart Watch for urban style.
Today was actually a formal occasion.
Today was his matriculation ceremony.
In other words, he would be given a matric number and officially become a bona fide student of the Federal University of Technology, Akure.
The ceremony began at 10:00 am, but he was already in the hall at 9:55, wearing the distributed matric gown on top of his own clothes.
As usual, he sat next to Alice, the sheer assortment of words that she was saying, along with the ones that the person on stage was saying, entering through one ear and going out the other.
'This is so boring!'
He yawned disinterestedly.
He took the moment to survey others in the hall, both the students on the first floor and those along the railings of the second floor.
'There must be more than 2000 people here.'
"Students of the School Of Computing, stand up to give your oath, and remain standing until the end of the oath taking..."
Alice stood up.
Daniel remained seated.
'This is so unnecessary.'
They were just words anyway. Most of those that took the oath were going to break it in some form or order anyways.
After the oath was over, Alice berated Daniel.
"Why didn't you stand up?"
He waved his hand disinterestedly.
"Waste of time."
She was taken aback.
"You seem off lately. Are you sure you're alright?"
"Alright?" Daniel suddenly sat up straight, a grin on his face that did nothing to mask the glint in his eyes.
"I've never been better."
Alice huffed and kept to herself, her expression a bit dark.
Daniel just slouched into his most comfortable position, looking at random Probability Events without a care in the world.
Ever since he had gained Fortuna's Dominion, he had become way more indifferent and detached towards most things.
Then again, being able to control almost everything within a certain range gave him a sense of detachment from everything else.
Now, as long as he willed it, forget money and power, careful application could see the world dancing to hisusic like a puppet on strings.
He didn't even have to manipulate Probability on a global stage. Just at the critical moment, he could make people experience or do things that could make or break them and those around him.
He was still feeling the novelty for now, but once that wore off, profound boredom would follow.
That was a matter for probably a few years though.
'Probably, such a strange word.'
---
- NAME: Fortuna's Dominion - The ability to alter and control the probability of events. This power enables the manipulation of outcomes across most, if not all domains.
- ABILITY CLASSIFICATION: Reality Manipulation – Type VII(Probabilistic Tier)
- THREAT LEVEL: Potentially Omega
- RANGE OF EFFECT:
Personal: Influences outcomes affecting the wielder directly.
Localized: Alters probabilities affecting others within the user's line of sight.
Global: Unexplored
- LIMITATIONS:Energy Dependency: Classifying Energy into units, with a total of 134 Units in the Energy Pool.
Probabilities above 90% consume 10 Energy Units, Probabilities between 50% and 90% consume 30 Energy Units, while Probabilities, between 10% and 50% consumes 60 Energy Units. Lower probabilities haven't been explored due to insufficient Energy.
Energy Units can be replenished at the rate of 1 per second, and 1 Energy Unit is added after each use.
Failsafe Threshold: Some Universal Constants including but not limited to the laws of physics may resist permanent change.
- ACTIVATION METHOD: The wielder must focus on a desired outcome, at which point the mental projection of the words [$π•¥] will automatically flicker and the ability will be activated.
: There is a mental time dilation effect of 1000:1 when using the ability.
