The rain poured heavily before the twins left for school, the streets of Detroit were cold and filtered with shallow water that ran through the road's drainage system. Julius kept his eyes fixed on the car's window-screen as he remained in his deep thoughts listening to some tracks with his phone connected to a wireless headset, while his sister talked on and on to her friend whom she was on a video-call with.
Just then he could see someone knocking on his side of the window, he was pulled back from his thoughts as he realized that the car had stopped moving and it seemed they had reached their destination, stepping out of the car he again realized that it was Juliana who knocked earlier.
" problematic much" he said as he stuck his hand in the car to grab his bag pack.
" what can I say...we're birds of a feather " she said before turning to climb the school's front stairs.
"Wait a minute!" A young lady came out of the car they just drove in. " I already told you guys I won't be back home till tomorrow, I brought home a lot of food items, make out whatever you want for dinner, okay?"
Apparently, they live with their big sister, mom and dad abandoned them before age six, atleast -so they were told.
"A'ight bet" Julius said as he walked through the school's entrance with Juliana behind.
"She literally forgot " Juliana said
Julian stopped in his tracks before letting out a smile, "oh right...We're eighteen now. Happiest birthday to us then" his smile faded instantly as he walked away.
[HOURS LATER THEY WERE BOTH SEATED IN CLASS]
Jayce sat in class staring outside the window, suddenly the bell rang for lunch time but Jayce remained in the same position.
"What you looking at?" Juliana asked as she blocked his view, she tried spotting anything intriguing but aside from the school's empty road there was nothing out of the ordinary.
"Go away, Jules" he said as he started packing his textbooks back in his bag.
"You coming to the cafeteria?" She asked
"You know I'm not" he said as he got up
She stared at him disappointed, "why you always like this?"
He sighed, "we're not having that conversation today" he started moving to the door but was held back. He turned and saw her holding his bag's other handle.
"Jules, let go" he said calmly
She stayed silent
"I'm being serious!" He said with a bit of anger in his tone.
" Always making me out to be the jokester, ayy" she replied
He flung the bag away out of both their hands, suddenly Jayce seemed different, it was almost like a flare appeared in his eyes.
"Whoa! Your eyes..." she said reaching out slowly to touch his face
He quickly turned away, "Jules, you need to leave, now!"
All the while he kept a distance from her letting her see his back as if he was hiding something.
" Why? Is there something wrong?" She asked coming closer
" Just listen to me! Please!!" He pleaded, instantly the room started heating up
She finally reached and hugged him tightly
"Stop you're gonna hurt..."
"It's okay, we need to get you outta here, come on"
Luckily the hallways were always empty during lunchtime so they managed to reach the toilet and as soon as he touched the doorknob it melted.
"Oh come on!"
" punch it! What you waiting for!"
Julian looked at his sister confused before adhering to her advice, she waited outside as he went in.
He looked at his hands before looking at the faucet, he grabbed the handle and also made it melt atleast the water turned on and he started pouring it on his face.
Outside where Juliana stood came three guys who wanted to go in upon seeing her they were confused. One of them stretched his hand to reach the doorknob but she blocked him.
"Uhhh...any problem?" He asked
"Ahh...yeah, so like my lil bro is more of a potty pooper and he sorta just let it out...on his pants and now he's messed up the whole place, I mean you can go in if ya want but honestly you'd be doing yourself a favour if you just walked away"
"Eiiish. Thanks ma'am " they walked away
She jammed the door," how we doing in there?"
"The water keep turning to steam as soon as he touches my skin!"
"Okay, we mah try something else. Relax Jayce, whatever it is you were thinking, just stop. Calm your nerves, stay quiet --let your heart beat slow down and don't forget to breathe."
Jayce followed her instructions and found himself getting relaxed and soon he was back outside the door.
SUDDENLY THE GROUND STARTED RUMBLING
" What the fvck! An earthquake!?"
"Let's get out of here before we find out!" She said dragging her brother to follow from behind. They were finally out of the school building along with everybody else. The skies were almost pitch black, the sun's radiant glow was replaced with utter darkness which started resulting to disasters and chaos in the city.
"Julian? Where are you!?" She yelled out trying to find her brother amidst the confused crowd running around wailing.
" Mundanians! It is I, Hades of the underworld!" Everyone could hear this terrifying and ominous voice, it sent fire down everywhere and the quaking became more vibrant this time.
" Two amongst you are not who they claim, they look like your kind, talk like your kind, act like your kind but in truth are my spawns. Ahhh, yes...I have awoken and have come to take back those means to my end. Your time has come, mortals. Olympus, tremble, for I have returned" The voice then disappeared and all the shadows in the sky became one great body and sunk to the earth, everything went back to how it was, except the environment seemed like a scene straight from hell.
"Jules!" Her brother called out grabbing her arm.
" oh thank goodness " she said throwing him a hug
Just then a vehicle was seen driving through the wrecked road and stopped right in front of them. "Get in!" Their sister said opening the door
"Katherine!?" They both chorused
"Come on, now!" She yelled as they both got in
She then drove off
" Did you see all what just happened? Julian exclaimed
"Scariest day of my life" Juliana replied
"I'm sure this is all a dream" Julian said
Juliana pinched him, "owww! What was that for!?"
"For you to wake up" she said smiling
"Oh, real funny..."
"Can the both of you just be quiet!!" She said turning to face them
"Watch out!" Julian pointed
Turning over she could see someone standing in the middle of the road not far from them and she quickly swerved.
Luckily, it was a free road and the casualty was at a minimum.
The person who CAUSED it was seen walking towards the car.
"Fvcking hell...are you two okay?" She turned and asked
"What the fvck" Juliana said touching her forehead
"Nigher crazy!?" Julian said in anger
"I'll take that as a yes"
They noticed the strange man standing in front of the car
"Hello cousin" The man said
"Hercules!" Katherine said with utmost surprise
The twins exchanged looks not believing what they heard.
