Chapter 11 - Chapter 11: Camping

"The use of elemental power depends on your desire and creativity from your imagination."

"For example, like this." My father created a fireball from the palm of his hand.

"I wanted to create a fireball and I did. But imagination has its limits." As he spoke, my father shot the fireball into the sky.

"The more difficult the request is, the more mana it costs. There are also requests that cannot be fulfilled no matter how much mana you have. For example, creating a fireball as magnificent as the sun."

"When using mana to activate elemental power, there are 3 factors you must remember: Speed, Strength, Size. For example, Speed is the time it takes to create a fireball. Strength is the damage and Size is the size of the fireball. You must know how to allocate mana to those 3 factors."

"People usually concentrate on speed, then power, and size."

As if to prove his point, my father summoned a fireball on his palm, the fireball was as big as a soccer ball, but the damage it caused when it collided with the tree was only burning part of it.

Next, my father created a fireball from his finger, it was only as tiny as a ping pong ball, but its destruction was enough to cut the tree in half.

"You can also use more mana to make all 3 factors stronger, but since you have to conserve mana, I don't recommend it much."

I immediately thought of the fight with "I" in the Domain. His attack tempo was very rapid, but the damage and thickness of the ice he created were not very good.

'He must have only focused on speed and ignored the other factors. But that's how I was able to win against him.'

While I was lost in thought, my father spoke up.

"Let's go camping next week?"

"Camping?" I asked in confusion.

"Yeah! You know that forest with giant trees that's quite far from town, right? We're going camping there."

"Huh? But why?"

"To gain experience. You will need it in the future. That forest is covered by a barrier created from Artifact to prevent Monsters in the jungle from destroying the town. We'll go in there, kill some Monsters, and come out."

"But isn't that threatening?" I was a little concerned about the decision to go camping.

"Don't worry, your dad is amazingly strong! My mana is level 9." My father said triumphantly.

However, what he said was true, level 9 was a very high level. But the strange thing was how he could reach that level at such a young age.

In the end, I agreed. I was also looking to gain more combat experience and experience using elemental power. Furthermore, there was a person with a mana level of 9 who could use Fire protecting me.

***

For a whole week until the day of the camping trip, I spent all my time training with Ice. It seemed easy at first, but it turned out to be not so straightforward. Maybe it was because my mana level was only at level 0.

Therefore, I still had limitations in using Ice. For example, I couldn't create many ice fragments with terrifying speed and damage like "I" did in Domain.

I could only create 5 ice fragments at a time with low speed and damage.

Even so, I believed that I could still eliminate Monsters using only Ice. In addition, I can also use mana to fight them, which I am most familiar with.

'I would be fine.' I thought to myself and continued to practice until the day of departure.

***

Today was the day my father and I were going camping.

I thought that my mother, who was very strict and always worried about the family, would not let me do such dangerous things, but this time she agreed, although she was still a little anxious about me.

'Is it because my mother trusts my father's power so much?'

'What kind of person is my father?'

Even though we had lived together for 7 years, I still didn't know anything about his past or how he could have such a high mana level.

Just like that, each of us mounted a horse, fully loaded with luggage for a trip of about 3 days, and rushed towards the forest.

***

Riding a horse was a wonderful and refreshing feeling. With the incredible speed of the horse, the scenery that my vision perceived changed at a dizzying speed. The wind continuously blew against my face and body. Although it was a bit uncomfortable, it was still very refreshing.

'This is so cool!'

Just like that, we arrived at the edge of the forest after only spending 30 minutes of riding.

"We will leave the horses here." My father said confidently, as if he was used to things like this before.

After securing the two horses, making sure that they would not be able to escape, we left them enough food to survive for 3 days. Then, my father and I entered the forest.

The deeper we went into the forest, the darker the surroundings became. The giant foliage blocked most of the sunlight. Now my eyes could no longer see as clearly as before.

Realizing that, I instantly enhanced my eyes with mana. Sure enough, my vision became brighter and clearer. That was also when I saw the bloodshot eyes from afar.

I quickly drew my sword and took a defensive stance while my father still seemed to be very moderate. I don't know if it was because he didn't notice or he was too confident. Maybe the latter was more correct.

There were about 5 pairs of eyes staring at us, which meant there were about 5 Monsters there since the eyes were quite low.

"I'll take care of 3 of them" After saying that, my father shot a spark towards them. The spark was small but very bright, allowing me to see intelligibly what they were.

"Lycagon?"

The spark shot past the 5 Monsters, revealing their true identities in this dark space. They had bodies like a wolf with jet-black fur. Their sharp teeth were bared and drooling, it seemed like they were very hungry.

Without hesitation, all five Monsters charged at us at a speed that cut through the wind.

Thanks to my enhanced eyes, I was able to keep up with their speed, but they were still very fast.

A Lycagon charged at me with its jaws wide open. The moment the Monster and I were only a few centimeters apart, I created a sharp ice thorn from the ground. I focused all my mana on speed, making sure the thorn was as narrow and sharp as possible. I didn't focus too much on strength because with the speed of the thorn, the Lycagon would be easily finished off.

Sure enough, the Lycagon died instantly when the thorn pierced through its head.

'This is so difficult! I still have to time and place the stab accurately.'

The second Lycagon, after witnessing its friend die, quickly retreated and lost its guard. Taking advantage of that opportunity, a piece of ice flew straight through the second Lycagon's body, killing it on the spot.

'The second one.'

I quickly turned around to look for the remaining ones but all three of them were dead and my father, who was stepping on their corpses, looked at me proudly.

"You are doing great son!"
