I left work after being the gist of the day throughout.
I went to my second job -part time at a restaurant.
It is not going well.
"YOU USELESS FISH!"
"Sir please calm down"
At the moment, there is a chubby middle aged man raining curses on me. How Ironic.
According to him, I tried to kill his wife.
They ordered the ice cream sundae, which on the menu clearly states that it's is garnished with peanuts...which his wife is allergic to.
Fortunately, she noticed it before having a taste.
Now it was the man who read, decided and ordered the ice cream, so logically it was his own fault and risk.
But "the customer is always right"
"Sir if you could please ca-"
"IF YOU TELL ME TO CALM DOWN ONE MORE TIME, I WILL SUE THIS PLACE! WHERE IS YOUR MANAGER!"
The manager, Bunmi ran out sheepishly with her head bowed down the the man.
After hesitating for a bit, she spoke. "Good evening, sir. I am the manager. I am here to-"
The man's face contorted.
"What?!" He asked
"Sir?" Bunmi asked, confused like everyone else in the room.
"No wonder the service is so poor! How could they make a woman the manager?!" He yelled
Many reactions exploded in the bustling room but the loudest was definitely
"He's a misogynist!"
You know, I really have nothing to lose. I could just knock this guy out and resign.
Although, I have to keep some money coming in after I finally leave my office job.
So I chose to stay calm.
Bunmi, at this point was well in between embarrassment, sadness and anger.
Her fist and lips were twitching even though her head was still bowed.
"Sir." I said.
"Please calm down, a replacement for the ice cream will be brought for you and your wife to enjoy. We apologise for the inconvenience and assure you it won't happen again"
I bowed my head to him in apology.
At the corner of my eye, I saw a mature man in grey staring at me intently.
I brushed it off knowing fully well that pretty much everyone one in the room was staring.
The previously enraged man was now caught off guard and under the eyes of everyone in the room, reluctantly nodded and went back to his seat.
The man in grey came up and paid for his meal. He studied me a bit and then left.
