Chapter 6 - The Prestigious Academy

Light has revealed itself throughout the vastness of the sky in the continent of Philippus. The three regions that divided the continent, which are Lewshown, Visayiens, and Mendienow, are now enlivened by its presence. In the region of Visayiens, a small village called Liones, situated in the City of Sibu, has opened its magical warp gate that is connected to the glamorous Dawn Academy. It's now the time to once again, choose the talents that would become one of the beacons that would lead the continent towards its salvation.

Phyxius is now at the warp gate waiting in line for his turn to finally enter the gate and travel to the academy. "Good morning, young man, and welcome to Liones's warp gate of Vis. May I see your identity card, please? Oh, is that a recommendation letter?" Phyxius handed his Identity card together with the letter that Rosillia gave him. "Here." The guard smiled as he received the letter from him. "Mmmmm, I see, this is a letter coming from the Grand Priestess herself. You may enter the gate, sir, and may the light bless you and give you wisdom and strength as you start a new journey inside the academy." The guard put a stamp on the letter and gave it back to him as well as his ID (Identity) card.

As Phyxius goes towards the warp gate, he instantly notices a blue light that is shimmering around it. It's pulsating with magical energy, its edges flickering and shifting. As he approaches closer to the portal, he feels a gentle pull towards it, like an unseen hand guiding him forward. The air around the warp gate is charged with magical energy and he could feel a palpable hum vibrating against his flesh. As he stepped through, he felt a brief sensation of weightlessness, like a wave of energy washing all over his body, before getting instantaneously transported to the academy. Upon arrival, he felt a sense of nostalgia and was greeted with the rush of fresh air, the scent of blooming flowers, and the sound of the student's laughter. It was a totally contrasting experience from when he was entering the village of Liones.

As Phyxius steps out of the portal, a knight donned in white armor with a great sword hanging on its back, welcomes him. "Hello, young man! Are you interested in joining the White Knights of Dawn?" He was wearing a creepy smile and was too forceful in asking him to join their group. Phyxius ignored him and just continued to walk directly to the path going to the registers office to apply for the shadow arts class. The knight kept following him until the point when it was clear that Phyxius was going to the Shadow arts class. "Hold it right there young man! You don't really want to go to that class, right?" Phyxius is now visibly getting annoyed and is also trying to find reasons why he shouldn't just smack this guy in the face. "This is the Shadow arts class, it is a gloomy place where unpopular people go! I would recommend you to go to the Sword arts class where the true beacons of the continent gather!" The Knight is now holding his left arm to try and stop him.

Phyxius looked at his arm and gazed at it for a moment, then went to stare at the Knight. "Let go of my arm, or I'll make it so that you will no longer be able to hold anything with it afterward." That menacing look in his eye gave the white knight a chill that ran down his spine. The knight instinctively lets go of Phyxius's arm and then steps back a few times. He grabs his great sword on his back and quickly pulls it out. "Heh, coward." After hearing that insult from him, the knight's face contorted from anger. "You dare to insult me?! I'm the son of the great Black Knight, Thomas Gladiolus, who fights as the vanguard for the war against the demons, to reclaim our lost lands! I am Hugo Gladiolus, the sole heir of the Gladiolus family." Phyxius just smirks at his announcement. "Well then, I guess the house of Gladiolus is doomed, having a dumb gorilla as their sole heir." Hugo couldn't take it anymore. He gathered his mana on his great sword, then down to his legs and feet.

He charged to attack Phyxius."You bastard, I'll slice you in half! Black Dragon's forward slash!" Phyxius just smoothly performs a sidestep to his right, making Hugo miss his attack. The knight staggers, unable to keep his balance; Phyxius cunningly moves to his back and kicks his behind. Hugo falls down face first, making a loud thudding sound, which catches the attention of the surrounding students who are just passing by. It wasn't a rare sight to see students dueling on the grounds or even on the pathways of the academy; however, what was new to them was a high-ranking student and a radiant knight candidate losing to a young man who hadn't even had the chance to register as a student of the academy.

Hugo stood up, blood dripped down from his broken nose, and his face was full of dirt. A face that was both considered manly and handsome has now become a pathetic sight of bruise, blood, and dirt. The students around them are now whispering to each other. "Hey, isn't that Hugo, the heir of the Gladiolus family?" Said one of the students that was watching them. "You're right but who is that handsome guy who has beaten him? Isn't he dreamy with that cute curly hair and tantalizing crimson eyes?" The other students, who are also watching the event, are now fantasizing about Phyxius in their minds. Phyxius might rank just next to the bottom of his class but he was always at the top three of the most handsome students in the entire academy before. Most of the female students would blush every time they got a glimpse of his face.

"What's wrong? Did your skill, which, by the way, has a very childish name, not work, despite your attempt to attack a defenseless student?" The murmuring of the students gets louder and louder when they hear him saying this to Hugo. "Y-You dishonorable bastard! You underhandedly throw dirt in my eyes to interrupt my skill, making me miss hitting you!" The crowd was now getting noisier again as they were watching the scene unfolding with their eyes. "Ohh, such a bold lie in front of a huge crowd. Even if it's the truth, isn't it a great skill, especially when it could interrupt a grand skill like that? How could you face a demon, who's known to do anything just to win a battle with your naivety? This just clearly shows how dumb you are."

Blood rushed to Hugo's brain, unable to keep his wits because of the rage surging inside him. He unconsciously activated his Berserk skill, and he just ran straight to Phyxius, swinging his great sword like a maniac. Every swing of his sword would create a zing sound and turbulence of air would come after. The crowd dispersed at the sight of an insane knight who was mindlessly swinging a huge sword. Phyxius just stood there calmly while waiting for Hugo to get closer. When he was in Hugo's range of flurries, he then rhythmically dodged all of Hugo's attacks like a choreographed dance without even breaking a sweat. Hugo finally stops after a few minutes of swinging his sword. It was the time for Phyxius to now throw his attacks on him. He trips Hugo's foot, making him fall down on the ground once again, but this time, he is facing the sky and not the ground. He could see the bored face Phyxius was now wearing, further insulting him. Then a foot stomps on his face trying to crush his head.

"I yield!!.. I yield!!.. P-Please stop!!.." Hugo is now pleading for Phyxius to stop. "Whatever happened to the proud heir of house Gladiolus? Is this all you got? Pathetic!" Phyxius further speaks of insulting remarks to Hugo when he felt a presence behind him."Stop it now, or you will be accused of trying to kill a radiant candidate." Phyxius took his foot off of Hugo's face, who had just passed out a few seconds ago and turned to see who was the person behind him. To his surprise, he, in fact, knows this person. It was Odessa Grancersia, one of his classmates back when he was still a student in the Sword Arts class. She was a stunningly beautiful girl with long blond hair, dashing blue eyes, and a cute, sharp nose. She was like a celebrity from a Western country that is now consumed in darkness.

"Phyxius!! What are you doing here and why did you beat the hell out of Hugo? You know you'll get in trouble once the patriarch of house Gladiolus hears about this right?" Equally surprised, Odessa confronted Phyxius about what happened. "Well, he started it, and he even used a berserk skill in front of a crowd. It should be recorded by the Eyes that you implanted throughout the place." The Eye is an invisible magical device that floats all around the academy for surveillance. "Then I'll give this matter to student police, for them to investigate what truly happened. For now, you would need to come to me. I need to bring you to the Academy's head." Phyxius just sighed, unable to argue with Odessa. "Fine, let's go see Gramps then."
