Chapter 31: The Shadow Behind the Strategy
A new dawn broke, illuminating the sky on the border between Everia and Ferelden. In the camp of the Everia family army, the hustle and bustle of preparations began to be heard. Soldiers checked their weapons, horses were fed, and scouts prepared for a new mission.
Eric stood in front of a large map placed on a wooden table in the central tent. The Seventh Elder and the Fifth Elder stood by his side, discussing the next step.
"Our envoy has already approached Marquis Aldebrand," said the Seventh Elder. "If the plan goes smoothly, he will hesitate to side with Ferelden, or even be willing to join us."
The Fifth Elder interjected in a cautious tone, "But we must prepare for the worst. If Aldebrand refuses or turns to Ferelden, our position will become even more difficult."
Eric looked at the map seriously. "We can't just rely on diplomacy. I want reserve troops on standby at strategic points near the Aldebrand border. If there are any signs of treachery, we must act quickly."
The Seventh Elder nodded. "Alright, I will arrange additional scouts to make sure we get the information as soon as possible."
"Also," Eric continued, "I want us to start planning a blitzkrieg. If Marquis Ferelden or Aldebrand shows any weakness, we must not hesitate to strike. This is not just about defending our territory, but also showing that the Everia family will not be betrayed without consequences."
The Fifth Elder seemed to think for a moment before replying, "It's risky, but I agree. If we don't show our strength, they'll keep testing us."
Eric nodded, then turned to the Seventh Elder. "Also make sure the scouts pay attention to Marquis Ferelden's movements. We need to know what their move is before they have a chance to make it."
The Seventh Elder smiled faintly. "I will send the best scouts. Don't worry."
On the other side of the camp, Leon and Lady Seraphina watched the preparations from a distance. Leon's face looked anxious, while his mother looked calmer, a faint smile on her face.
"Eric keeps getting Dad's attention," Leon muttered, his voice filled with envy. "Every important decision always involves him, not me."
Lady Seraphina patted her son's shoulder gently. "Calm down, Leon. Let Eric play his part for now. If everything goes according to our plan, he will make a mistake. And when he does, our position will be much stronger."
Leon nodded, though his eyes were still filled with burning ambition.

In the tent of Marquis Ferelden, the atmosphere was completely different. Marquis Ferelden sat on a large chair, surrounded by his advisors. In front of him, a messenger who had just returned from the Aldebrand region reported his findings.
"Marquis Aldebrand has not given a definite answer," the messenger said. "He seems to be still hesitant about whether to side with us or Everia."
Ferelden leaned back in his chair, his eyes narrowing. "Hesitation? That's better than refusal. We need to apply more pressure. If he can't be convinced with words, maybe a little threat will change his mind."
An advisor approached, carrying a small map scroll. "Marquis, we should also consider the move to suppress the Everia family directly. Our troops are ready to attack at any time."
Ferelden raised his hand, motioning for the advisor to stop. "Not yet. Let them think we are waiting. House Everia is strong, but patience is our weapon. Let them make the first move, and we will exploit their every mistake."
---
At night, Eric sat alone in his tent. His mind was filled with strategies and possibilities. In the silence of the night, he held the artifact found in the Ruins of Lumina, trying to understand its hidden power.
"If things get worse," Eric muttered under his breath, "I might have to use it earlier than I planned."
However, he knew that using that power too soon could carry great risks. This war was not just about physicality, but also about strategy, diplomacy, and courage.
Footsteps were heard approaching the tent, followed by the Seventh Elder who opened the entrance without ceremony. His face was serious, bringing important news.
"Eric," he said, his voice deep and firm. "I just got a report from the scouts watching the Aldebrand area."
Eric placed the artifact on the table and looked up. "What did they find?"
The Seventh Elder placed a map scroll on the table and opened it, showing the markings around Aldebrand's territory. "The Ferelden envoy has managed to meet with Marquis Aldebrand in person. They brought some lavish gifts and a rather tempting alliance offer."
"What kind of offer?" Eric asked warily.
"Ferelden promised military protection if Aldebrand joined them," the Seventh Elder explained. "They also offered some small territories along the border as compensation."
Eric gritted his teeth. Such an offer must be very hard to refuse for a Marquis who considered long-term benefits.
"What was Aldebrand's response?"
"He hasn't given a definite answer," the Seventh Elder continued. "But we don't have much time. If they manage to pressure Aldebrand any further, we may lose our chance to secure his position."
Eric took a deep breath, trying to find a solution amidst the increasingly complicated situation.
"We must send an envoy to Aldebrand immediately," he said finally. "Bring evidence that shows Ferelden's evil intentions. We must make him doubt their offer."
The Seventh Elder nodded, but there was doubt on his face. "And if that's not enough?"
Eric stared at the Seventh Elder with a sharp gaze. "If diplomacy fails, we must be prepared for the next step."
---
At the Tent of Marquis Aldebrand
Marquis Aldebrand sat on a large wooden chair inside his tent, staring at the pile of gifts brought by the Ferelden envoy. Beside him, his chief advisor spoke in a cautious tone.
"Marquis, this offer is very lucrative," the advisor said. "Ferelden is a great power. Siding with them will protect our territory from any threats."
Aldebrand nodded slowly, but there was doubt in his eyes. "However, the Everia family is not to be underestimated. They have a long history of building alliances and defending their territory."
"True, but the Everia family is in a weak position right now," the advisor continued. "With Ferelden as an ally, we can use this situation to our advantage."
Aldebrand stood up from his chair, walked to the tent window and looked out. He knew that his decision would have a big impact, not only for himself but also for his people.
"Wait until I meet with Everia's envoys," he said finally. "I want to hear what they have to offer before I make a decision."

In the Everia Region, War Preparations Continue
In the dark of night, Eric stood on the training field, surrounded by the Everia family's finest warriors. He watched over their training with rapt attention, making sure that everyone was ready for whatever was to come.
The Fifth Elder approached, bringing the latest report. "Our main forces are ready. If Ferelden makes a move, we can respond quickly."
Eric nodded. "Good. But we must also prepare for a surprise attack. Ferelden will not give us a second chance."
The Fifth Elder glanced at Eric with respect. "You are truly beginning to show the qualities of a leader, Eric. Even Duke Alaric would be impressed with how you handled this situation."
Eric smiled faintly, though his eyes remained serious. "I don't care about impressions. What's important is making sure this family stays standing, no matter what."
The Fifth Elder was silent for a moment before nodding. "And you will. I am sure of that."
---
Meanwhile, on the border, Everia's scouts have spotted something suspicious. A small caravan has been seen moving through the forest, carrying the Ferelden flag.
"What are they planning now?" one of the scouts muttered.
He sent a message back to the main camp, reporting the movement to Eric and the Seventh Elder.
"If they sent a small force like this, it is most likely a diversion," the Seventh Elder said upon hearing the report.
Eric thought for a moment. "Or they're trying to test our strength. Whatever it is, I want them under close surveillance. If they try anything suspicious, I want to know first."
The Seventh Elder smiled faintly. "Our scouts are the best, Eric. They won't let you down."
---
With Ferelden's moves becoming increasingly devious and Aldebrand's alliances still uncertain, the pressure is on. Eric must make quick and smart decisions to ensure his family's victory amidst political intrigue and the threat of war.
Eric stood on the edge of the cliff, his eyes looking into the distance. The night wind blew hard, but his mind was far from the peace of nature. Every step he took was now heavier because there were more decisions he had to make for his family and his homeland.
"Are we ready?" Eric asked the Seventh Elder standing beside him.
The elder nodded slowly. "Our troops are at full readiness. But Aldebrand's decision will determine the course of this war."
Eric looked back at the field ahead, considering every strategy he had devised. "We can't wait any longer. If we lose Aldebrand, we could lose the entire western region. We must act quickly."
The Seventh Elder looked at him with a look of confidence. "You have shown great wisdom, Eric. No one can doubt your leadership now."
However, in Eric's heart, there was a tension that could not be hidden. This situation was more complicated than imagined. Ferelden with his cunning tactics, and Aldebrand who was tempted by their promises, made Eric feel more and more cornered.
"Next, we must send an envoy who can influence Aldebrand's decision. Time is running out," Eric said in a firm voice.
The Seventh Elder nodded. "I will choose the right person for this task."
---
At Aldebrand Camping Center
The next day, Aldebrand sat at his large wooden desk. His chief advisor approached again, bringing the latest news.
"Marquis, the messenger from the Everia family has arrived. They wish to speak with you immediately."
Aldebrand sighed, looking down at the gifts and letters he had received from Ferelden. Right now, his heart was heavy, torn between the profitable choice and the obligation to his family's future.
"Let them in," he said in a deep voice.
---
Marquis Aldebrand Tent
Eric walked in confidently, accompanied by the Seventh Elder accompanying him. They were greeted formally by Marquis Aldebrand and his advisors.
"Marquis Aldebrand," Eric said humbly. "We have come to speak of the alliance and the future of our families."
Aldebrand looked at Eric sharply, his eyes showing tension. "I have heard your offer. However, I have also heard an even more tempting offer from Ferelden."
Eric was not surprised by the answer but remained firm. "Ferelden will only sacrifice you under their empty promises. They offer protection, but only to protect their interests. The Everia family is more than an alliance. We are family. We protect the ones we love."
The Seventh Elder added softly, "And we will always be there for you, Marquis."
However, Aldebrand remained silent, thinking deeply. There was great uncertainty in his eyes. Although Eric and the Seventh Elder's words were heavy and moving, the final decision was still in his hands.
"Give me some time," Aldebrand finally replied. "I need to think this through."
Eric nodded, showing no signs of unease. "We await your decision with anticipation, Marquis."
---
Return to Everia Camp
Eric returned to his camp, his eyes full of calculation. Every step he took towards the tent was a heavy one. The Seventh Elder followed behind him, remaining calm.
"Aldebrand's decision will come soon," Eric said quietly. "And we must be ready for whatever happens."
The Seventh Elder patted Eric's shoulder wisely. "Your courage has been proven, Eric. Now, let's await the results of all that we have prepared."
---
The time Eric had been waiting for finally arrived. That same night, Aldebrand's messenger arrived with important news. Without further ado, the messenger handed Eric a letter from Marquis Aldebrand. The letter contained the decision he had been waiting for.
Eric opened the letter attentively. Eric's eyes moved quickly over the handwriting filled with unreadable feelings. After a moment, Eric looked at the Seventh Elder.
"Marquis Aldebrand has decided to stay on our side," he said, his voice calm but full of relief. "We will move forward with full force."
The Seventh Elder smiled. "A wise decision, Eric. This is a great victory for us."
Eric looked up at the vast night sky. "This is just the beginning."
