The sky was dark, it was as if all the stars had gone into hiding.Admist the darkness, a bat flew, stretching its sleek velvety fur that seems to camouflage with the moonless night. Its black wings revealing a delicate network of veins that seems to have a life of its own.
In a flash of movement, the bat alighted in front of a grand mansion,as its dark form began to fade away. Its wings folding in,and its body began to stretch and contort into a humanoid form.
The bat's form completely changed to that a man, unfolding a chiseled face, high cheek bones and deep blood red eyes. For a moment his eyes gave out a bright red glow as it began to fade, replaced by the warm gentle light of a human eyes taking a more mortal quality.
As he moved, a black coat materialised around his tall frame, accentuating the man's broad shoulders and powerful physique. His black hair was slicked back revealing his a prominent forehead and a sharp jawline. His skin was deathly pale like a body without soul.
He stood motionless for a second, his eyes scanning the mansion's walls. With smooth strides he disappeared into the mansion's entrance.
" Welcome back master Vlad" the mansion's butler a stout man appeared relieving him of his coat. " Miss Vanessa is here to see you sir" he announced. Vald gave him a curt nod, his expression unreadable.
Just then, a lady descended the grand staircase . Her movement smooth and delicate. She wore a maroon dress that highlighted her beautiful curves. Her golden blonde hair was styled in a bun with small curls framing her heart shaped face.
" Where have you been Vlad? Your car has been packed in the garage all day."
Vladimir looked at the lady, his gaze lingering on her delicate neck. For an instant he was transported back to the medieval times where he would have descended on her and long sucked her dry.
But times have changed now, the world had evolved, almost all of his kind had disappeared. He was one of the last remnant of his kind. Humans had dominated the world, pushing his kind to the brink of extinction. He had learned to adapt, forced to conceal his true nature.
" Where have you been Vlad?" Her voice cut through his reverie.
" Went for a walk" he replied as he walked towards his room. " You went for a walk for two days, who does that" her voice cut through the air.
" I'm tried Vanessa, I need to rest. The chauffeur would take you home." His voice was low and smooth as he continued to walk up the stairs.
Vanessa montelli, the spoilt daughter of his wealthy business partner had developed a noticable foundness for Vlad, infact most women couldn't help but be drawn to his handsome features and captivating presence.
However, his captivating exteriors concealed a profound loneliness. He didn't care about it for centuries, but as he world began to change becoming unrecognisable from the one he once knew, an unusual realization dawned on him: he now yearned to blend in, to be a part of this strange new world.
He gazed at the high ceilings of his room, the beautiful chandelier light looking brightly at him. He wondered how humans were able to create such masterpieces. It was ironic_ humans whom his kind once looked down on, seeing them as weaklings and inferior had proven to be extraordinarily creative.
The next day, Vladimir sat at the dinning table taking a slow sip of his coffee as he scanned the news paper. There were soft clicking of silverware as the staff served breakfast. A tall figure walked into the dinning room, his blonde hair neatly tied back. His blue eyes locked onto the apple on the table, he picked it up before sitting across the table from Vladimir.
" You have been scarce this period" he spoke, taking a bite from the apple. " I saw Louis" His last words drew the attention of Vladimir.
" I thought he had disappeared for decades now" Vlad spoke raising his head to look at his vampire friend.
" Yeah, but he is back now, Theodore leaned forward as if whispering, he is now a priest" he chuckled.
Louis was a powerful vampire from the ancient line of the wisest vampires. He had vanished without a trace almost a century ago.
" Are you sure of what you saw Theodore?"
" I may have been living for centuries now, but that doesn't mean my memories have become weak. I am very sure of what I saw" Theodore replied.
One of the female staff entered with a small tray, she heard the last words of Theodore as she raised her eyebrows in confusion. Theodore caught her eyes and gave her a wink, her cheeks flushed, she quickly looked away.
They both waited for her to leave. Theodore was the first to speak, " it's been long since I had a taste of human blood, am tired of taking animal blood"
" Don't do anything stupid, we are no longer in the medieval times" Vlad warned.
It's strange isn't it, Theodore continued, they were once beneath us, terrified of our very presence. But now, it's the other way round. We can't even drink blood openly. They even think of us as a fairy tale" he sighed.
" Find out more about Louis " he asked.
Theodore raised his eyes curiously at his friend " why the sudden interest, is Vanessa no longer keeping you busy? He teased.
" I want to know where I can find him" Vlad continued ignoring his friend's question.
Theodore was his right hand man, he was very good with finding out things quickly.
Theodore nodded his head, seeing Vlad was in no mood for jokes.
Vladimir stood by the large window of his room, his eyes narrowed as he looked at the address Theodore had given him. In less than a week Theodore had provided informations about the old vampire. He took a puff from his cigarette before placing it on the ashtray.
The chaffuer opened the car's door as Vladimir slid into the leather seat of the ash coloured Ford. He handed the address to the chaffuer as the car's engine roared into motion.
Louis stood in front of a middle aged woman as he listened to her attentively, she broke down in tears as she spoke to the priest. He held her shoulders as he offered words of comfort. His silver hair was trimmed neatly, a silver crucifix hung on his neck, glinting softly in the dim light of the church.
Louis gaze shifted from the woman as he perceived the scent of a vampire. His blue eyes locking on the unexpected visitor. He dismissed the lady with a little word of prayer.
" I never expected to see a vampire in church. Any confessions my dear?"
" And I also never expected to see a vampire becoming a priest." Vald remarked.
" The world is changing, it's only wise to go go with the flow" a small smile appearing on his lips. He looked like a true saint.
Vlad's tone became serious, " there is something I want and I need your help."
