Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The Forgotten Outcast

The village of Azure Spring nestled within the valley like a secret the mountains kept hidden. Small homes made of wood and stone huddled together beneath the shadows of towering peaks. Mist rolled through the narrow pathways, carrying the earthy scent of wet soil and fresh pine. For the villagers, this was home, a simple life dictated by the cycles of planting and harvesting. But for Lei Tian, it was a cage.

"Useless brat!" a grizzled old man spat, his voice echoing through the clearing. "You can't even lift a basket of rice without collapsing. What good are you to anyone?"

Lei Tian flinched but didn't respond. His thin frame trembled under the weight of the rice basket he had just dropped, scattering grains across the damp ground. The laughter of the other villagers, sharp and mocking, cut into him more deeply than the old man's words.

"Enough, Uncle Li," a soft voice interjected. Yue Lin, the village healer's granddaughter, stepped forward, her delicate features set in a frown. "He's just tired. There's no need to humiliate him."

"Tired?" Uncle Li sneered, his gray beard bristling with indignation. "That boy is always tired. He's sixteen and can't even perform basic chores. Mark my words, he'll never amount to anything."

Lei Tian lowered his gaze, the words burning into him. Yue Lin placed a hand on his shoulder, her touch gentle but firm. "Come on," she said softly. "Let's get you cleaned up."

The path to Yue Lin's home wound through the outskirts of the village, where the forest's edge seemed to whisper secrets. Lei Tian walked in silence, his thoughts a storm of anger and despair. He wanted to protest, to shout that he wasn't useless, but how could he argue when even his body betrayed him?

As they approached the healer's hut, Yue Lin stopped abruptly. "Wait here," she said, disappearing inside. Lei Tian sighed and leaned against the wooden railing, staring at the pendant hanging around his neck. The jade was smooth and cold, its surface etched with faint, intricate patterns. It was the only possession he had from his parents, who had vanished when he was just a baby.

"Why did you leave me?" he whispered, his voice barely audible. "Why did you leave me here?"

The pendant glowed faintly, a shimmer so brief he thought he might have imagined it. He straightened, heart pounding. Before he could examine it further, Yue Lin returned with a bowl of steaming broth.

"Eat," she said, handing it to him. "You need your strength."

He nodded and took the bowl, grateful for her kindness. She always treated him like he mattered, even when no one else did.

That night, Lei Tian lay on his straw mat, staring at the pendant. The faint glow had returned, pulsing rhythmically like a heartbeat. He reached out, his fingers brushing the cool surface.

A voice, ancient and resonant, echoed in his mind.

"Awaken, child of the Void. Your destiny calls."

Lei Tian bolted upright, his heart racing. The room was dark and silent, but the pendant continued to glow, illuminating the intricate patterns etched upon it. They seemed to shift and writhe, forming symbols he couldn't understand.

"Who's there?" he whispered, his voice trembling.

The voice returned, calm yet commanding. "You are the last heir of the Azure Void Clan. The blood of kings flows through your veins. Rise, and claim what is yours."

"Azure Void Clan?" Lei Tian repeated, confusion mingling with fear. He had never heard of such a clan. "You must have the wrong person. I'm just... nobody."

The pendant's glow intensified, bathing the room in a pale, otherworldly light. "You are more than you know, Lei Tian. The path ahead is perilous, but within you lies the power to change your fate."

A surge of warmth spread through his body, chasing away his fatigue. He felt a strange energy coursing through him, filling the emptiness he had carried for so long. The voice faded, leaving behind a silence that buzzed with unspoken promises.

Lei Tian clutched the pendant, his mind racing. For the first time in his life, he felt a spark of hope—and fear. Whatever this power was, it had chosen him. But why?

Outside, the wind howled through the trees, carrying with it the first whispers of a destiny that would shatter his world.
