Spring unfurled its blossoms with renewed vigor, and Reina and Aiden's relationship blossomed alongside it. They spent weekends exploring the city—wandering through art galleries, picnicking in sunlit parks, and savoring late-night conversations under a blanket of stars. For the first time in years, Reina felt truly alive.
But Aiden's shadows lingered, creeping into their brightest moments. He would sometimes grow distant, retreating into a silence that Reina couldn't quite penetrate. She knew he was haunted by his past, but she struggled to find the right words to reach him.
One afternoon, as they strolled through a bustling weekend market, Aiden suddenly stopped in his tracks. His gaze was fixed on a musician playing a melancholic tune on a violin. Reina saw the way his shoulders tensed, the way his hands clenched at his sides.
"Aiden?" she asked gently, touching his arm.
He blinked, as if snapping out of a trance. "Sorry. That song… it's just…" He trailed off, his voice thick with emotion.
Reina squeezed his hand. "You don't have to explain. Just know I'm here."
That night, Aiden finally let down his guard. He told Reina about his late fiancée, Elise, and the accident that had taken her from him. He spoke of the guilt that gnawed at him, the dreams that replayed the moment he couldn't save her.
"I've been running from it," he admitted, his voice barely above a whisper. "But with you, I feel like I can stop running."
Reina's heart ached for him, but she also felt a spark of hope. "You don't have to face it alone anymore. We can face it together."
