I stared at the screen of my friends Smartphone... Never was really into the whole craze of Deep Sive VIrtual Reality gaming, to much hype in my opinion. but maybe... just maybe, this could change that.
"So~ Be honest what do you think Mark? Isn't this the kinda stuff to make your heart race?!" My best friend Zach Reinfiet, Geek extraordinaire, he always had to be on top of any craze like this and had the money to do so... his father Himel Reinfiet ran a successful Auto-repair and Rental company he built from the ground up, he hoped that Zach would share his passion and to an extent he did... but not enough for his fathers liking, so now Zach is allowed to do mostly what he wants, so long as he keeps his grades up and finds a successful business to keep himself afloat. The guys a good 5'11 with wide shoulders long legs and racoon like fingers, if it weren't for his obsession with the digital world of videogames he would've been the world's greatest mechanic. But since I'm talking to myself as it is, He has tanned skin, somehow... not sure how a basement dweller gets tanned, amber brown hair, soft baby blue eyes, and the most Punchable face... it's true, you look at him from any direction where you can see his face and it just brings an urge to punch it, I know I have, but that's besides the point.
"Don't know Zach, I mean... it loos cool? But I've never really understood the fun of it." And here I am, Mark Fenton, a crashed and washed out student who can barely hold a Job because his family thinks he shouldn't be here at all. The stress does not help, I used to have Blonde hair like my mother, but the stress turned that all to a steel grey almost white, for a guy in Denmer city I'm quite tall I'd say, 6'4 and built like a twig...
"Just a bit cool?! JUST A BIT COOL?! That's like saying Birds can 'Kinda fly'! You know what, after schools out I'm taking you to that store and we are entering you into that raffle. No if ands or buts my friend as I can't stand it!" He exclaims it like it's some oath from a paladin. To wich I'm more surprised since the last time he was like this was when someone tried to hurt what he thought was a pup from a Labrador... turns out he saved a wolf and now he has the most violent looking lovable floof there is.
As the bell rings and class is out I make my way to the schools gate last day and all that, what I did not expect was the moving truck. To wich I walked up to Zach. "The hell is this? why did you bring this?" To wich he looked me dead in the eyes and said planely. "I got all your stuff. Hop in, don't ask questions till later." Afterwords he got in and started it leaving no room for questions, so I just did as the rich man asked. A few hours of driving and we were at the store, the front door was crowded like it was a fire sale from Corporate Online Demoliton, the odd name doesn't do the series well, but it is mostly about a group of mercenaries who get paid, and usually fight what seemed like armies of enemies through various ways and with a multitude of weapons and attachments, Team deathmatch was a commonly played Multi-player mode that people picked, and Evolution, wich has its own fan base, I am a part of that as while not to Zachs extent I enjoyed the older consol games...and Evolution was fun, you played rounds of games trying to get to the end of the story of said mission, fighting waves of these Mutated Spores that infected a host of different creatures, but since it was in the middle of a city, mostly humans but as the waves went on and time passed the infected hosts would evolve under the strain of the players... it was fun. But back to the point.
As we waded through the crowd, Zach handed me a few Z-bucks, our standard currency in Zerical and I went up to the counter. "I'd like to enter the raffle..." I asked hoping there was still tickets left. "Give me a moment." The clerk said as she checked under the counter and pulled up a yellow ticket and a hole puncher. "Just punch out the spots you'd think would win and hand it back, but you will need to purchase something." It made sense and was a bit unique on how it was to pick a winner, most rely on a digital raffle now-awadys but it seems to always spark a bit of old wonder in me every time I find one of these moments. "Then uh... can I just get a can of Refresher?" I was a bit out of my element so I was trying hard here... the clerk didn't seem to mind and just nodded, handing me the card and puncher before walking off to get the beverage, it wasn't great... tasting more like someone mixed as much sugar as legally possible into a really bad lemonade, but it did its work, on the card I saw what was to my belief a train engine, an old Mainline Stv-45 Union modle if my memory served me right, so I just punched a circle and using the puncher to cut a star out of the middle, wich was difficult but possible... and I finished just as she returned, so I handed the ticket and puncher back, as well as the required 7.99 Z-bucks for my drink. "Here you-" she stopped for a moment. "Oh, fast one I see... and also a unique shape compared to the others... anyways here's your drink." She also handed me a part she tore off along the dotted line. "And this is your part of the ticket, please come back with this if yours was a winner. And comeback whenever your desires bloom!" I waved to her as I left since the crows dispersed once they realized all the tickets of this store had been sold... I handed Zach the Refresher as I despised the drink, not surprisingly he drank it all down... as I got into the truck awaiting his answer of what the hell he was doing with this...
