Chapter 9 - Friends...

Sophie Lane slammed the hot cup of tea on the table as it burnt her tongue. She hissed slightly at the irritation but that didnʼt mean she would stop. Tea tasted better when it was hot, however Sophie was aware that it didnʼt have to be very hot, she just preferred all shades of weird. Only now she wouldnʼt be able to get the taste right. Her tongue was burnt and a burnt tongue meant tasteless food.

She had found her newest obsession after she heard the news of her friendʼs death. She didnʼt drink alcohol, her father even though he was rich had been the son of a catholic priest and he had made sure to pass on those dignifying habits to her. She decided to get addicted to drinking teas especially chamomile which helped her to get rest.

It was still unbelievable, she had talked to Olivia the day before her death. They had both gone out to party. How was it possible that her friend got into an accident that caused her demise?

Things really had a way of turning out for the worse. Just like how Lila and Cassandra Montgomery were still alive. If anyone should have died, it was them and not her dear friend.

Sophie took another gulp of tea and sat back in her chair.

"Marjorie, go get the door." She called out after minutes of ignoring the constant ring of the doorbell. She didnʼt want to talk to anyone right now but the unknown person behind the door had persisted even though she gave no reply.

If she had guessed right, it would certainly be her father. That man didnʼt joke when it came to her, she was lucky to still have him alive. Her mother had died years back leaving her and her father behind.

She heard the door open and she expected to hear her fatherʼs voice afterwards but what she heard couldnʼt have shocked her more. She recognized that voice anywhere, anytime.

Sophie bolted up and ran to the door. No, she was just hallucinating, she missed her friend so much, it was understandable that she was feeling this way.

"Oh my God!" Her jaw dropped as she saw the figure before her. "Olivia?" She breathed incredulously.

"Iʼm alive." Olivia said with pride, more like a boastful declaration actually.

"I...I...I" Sophie stuttered. "Your family they said you were dead." She said pulling her in a hug as she burst in to tears.

"Iʼm well and alive. If anyoneʼs dead, itʼs Lila."

Sophieʼs eyes caught sight of the man beside Olivia and Olivia introduces them to each other.

"This is Pitt, he saved my life."

Olivia said while she turned to Pete. "This is my best friend, Sophie."

"Thank you so much." Sophie whimpered.

"Itʼs actually my pleasure." Pete smiles.

"Is there anything you would want me to offer for your help." "Nothing, actually I was just

about leaving. I only wanted to make sure that she arrived here safely. He said.

"Good bye. I would give you some calls to see how you are doing." He said to Olivia and walked out.

"He is such a nice man." Sophie said.

"Yeah He is. I have to see him off." Olivia said as she ran after him.

Sophie overheard the goodbyes they said to each other as she watched from the entrance.

"I didnʼt want to believe you were dead." Sophie said to Olivia as she walked up the stairs. "How did it happen?"

"Itʼs a long story but Cassandra and Lila want me dead. Victor is also an accomplice to their plans."

"What?" Sophie let our in surprise.

"Itʼs the truth and I also couldnʼt believe it. They want to inherit my grandmotherʼs estate."

"Oh, that estate would go bankrupt in a few years under their care." Sophie pointed out.

"Exactly, which is why Iʼm here. Youʼre the only one I trust Sophie. I need to get back my estate and expose them. They are my enemies, I wouldnʼt want them to prevail."

"You can trust me." Sophie said in a soft breaking voice.

"I know and I also need a force behind me. We both have our own companies but they are not as strong as the Montgomerys. I need support."

"Do you mean someone like Damian Montgomery. Heʼs the biggest rival your family has. I think heʼs your biggest bet considering the fact that his assets are on par with your familyʼs." Olivia nodded.

Damian Montgomery has never crossed her mind but now that Sophie mentioned him. She thought he was the best option.

"I have no other alternative, so I think it must be him." She replied.

"How about your looks, we need to change your look." "You mean like a plastic surgery?" Olivia asked.

"No. Not that. That would be a life long alteration. We donʼt want that."

"So what do you suggest."

"First we change your identity, we forge new documents. You would be introduced to society as my cousin. We would also have to change your name."

"Iʼm thinking of something like Victoria Lane." Olivia suggested.

Sophie smiled. "I used to have a cousin with that name."

"Used to?" Olivia asked for further clarification.

"Sheʼs dead."

"You never mentioned her."

"There was never a reason to." She replied. Olivia nodded.

"Do you think your father would accept that i take on her identity?" Olivia asked again.

"Iʼm sure he will. Heʼs not all that stuck up." She laughed.

"I would just talk to him and your hair. It wouldnʼt hurt for it to change from blonde to red." Sophie suggested.

"Nah. I would just go for black. Red isnʼt my favorite color." Olivia replied. She hated red. Too flashy and at the same time, it wasnʼt a common hair color, especially among the elites.

"Do you know how things are going with my family? Is there an investigation concerning my supposed death?"

"Actually yes but the case has been swept under the carpet. The police found your car in the depths of the coast and you were pronounced dead ever since."

"Really?" This was unbelievable. Victor had gone lengths to hide evidence of their involvement. Driving her car to the ocean, how cruel.

"They actually set your funeral for today but I just didnʼt want to go."

"Itʼs fine just that they wouldnʼt see me coming by the time I get back."

"You actually need to lay low for now. I would talk to my father and I would make sure Majorie doesnʼt speak a word about this to anyone."

"Thanks. Youʼre really the best thing that has ever happened to me." Olivia gave her best friend a deep warm hug.

"Itʼs the same for me and I promise I would never let you down. No matter what happens and together we would bring down our enemies. Okay."

"Okay, I trust you." Olivia replied and they broke their

embrace.

"Now, do you have anything at home? Iʼm really hungry."
