After returning to her dormitory and freshening up, Jane began unwrapping the gifts that had accumulated in the corner.
She picked up the topmost package wrapped in beautiful sky-blue leather paper, with "To Yu, from Theodore" written in flourishing handwriting.
Inside was a thick potions book which, according to the enclosed note, was a unique copy from the Nott family collection. Beneath it lay a set of class notes, containing all the important points from the lessons she had missed during her unconsciousness.
The second package was enormous and bulging, contained in a sturdy gift bag. The gilded patterns and family crest adorning it immediately indicated its origin from an ancient pure-blood family.
Indeed, it was from Draco, filled with all sorts of things the young master favored: premium quills, Honeydukes limited editions, homemade cookies (Narcissa's special version), and a Quidditch model set.
She then discovered many more gifts from other Slytherins, including magical photo frames, small cakes, socks, and compasses. There were also presents from admiring Ravenclaws and Hufflepuffs she didn't even know.
One gift particularly surprised Jane - it came from Daphne Greengrass, decorated with laurel patterns and containing a bottle of laurel-scented perfume.
Jane knew of this blonde, blue-eyed witch who shared a dormitory with Millicent and Pansy. As Pansy's devoted follower, they were inseparable. Daphne strongly supported pure-blood supremacy and had spoken ill of Jane behind her back.
Jane couldn't understand this sudden gesture of goodwill.
Setting that package aside, she opened three red-and-gold wrapped parcels delivered by owl yesterday.
They were from Hermione, Ron, and Neville.
Hermione had written her a long, heartfelt letter expressing gratitude and remorse, accompanied by four bottles of Chanel perfume - clearly having spent a considerable amount of her pocket money. Ron's card was brief, accompanied by a wizard's chess set.
Neville's package contained a letter from his grandmother, thanking Jane for saving him, along with a fox fur scarf and a wizard's hat.
The professors had also sent gifts: Professor McGonagall gave her "Intermediate Transfiguration," a textbook for third through fifth years; Professor Flitwick sent "Innovative Charmwork"; and Professor Sprout gifted her a Bouncing Bulb plant.
Finally, there remained one unsigned, plain gray package. Opening it, she found a publication.
"International Potions Research?"
After removing the journal, she shook the package, and out tumbled a large bag of Galleons - by weight, at least 200 - with a brief note reading "Author's Fee."
Curiosity drove her to open the journal, where she found in the table of contents an article titled "Processing Methods and Applications of Bubotuber Pus" by Yu Jane.
She could now guess the gift's source.
Jane carefully stored away the presents and began sorting through her cabinet of beauty potions.
Etiquette demanded she return gifts to those who had given them. While gift preparation might be troublesome for others, it posed no challenge for someone with her beauty potion expertise - any gift could be solved with a bottle of beauty potion.
She packed about ten bottles of beauty potions, preparing to visit the Owlery.
But the moment she stepped out of the common room, something invisible suddenly grabbed her right arm!
...
Harry, concealed under his newly acquired Invisibility Cloak, had stealthily approached the Slytherin common room entrance.
The cloak truly was perfect for nighttime wandering!
But he belatedly realized his foolishness: he didn't know the password!
"Dragon dung," "Pig snout"...
He tried about ten different passwords, but the door remained unmoved.
Just as he was about to leave dejectedly, the door suddenly opened.
It was Jane!
Excited, he grabbed her arm, completely forgetting his current invisible state.
Jane nearly screamed!
She swiftly drew her wand with her left hand and cast "Petrificus Totalus" at whatever had seized her right arm.
In that split second, she had already considered the possibility of Voldemort seeking revenge.
Instead, a silvery fabric fell to the ground, revealing Harry Potter's petrified face. Only his eyeballs could move, blinking pitifully at her.
Why was the protagonist here?!
Shouldn't he still be stuffing himself in the Great Hall?
Jane was exasperated - thanks to the Chosen One, she'd been startled twice in one evening!
"Finite Incantatem!"
She waved her wand, releasing Harry from the Body-Bind Curse, and asked wearily:
"What is it, Harry?"
The little lion awkwardly hugged a large leather package and held it out to her:
"Sorry... Yu... I forgot to give you your Christmas present."
One shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth, and Jane's irritation subsided as she accepted the gift - which nearly broke her back with its weight!
"It's some books on Defense Against the Dark Arts... er... I thought you might need them..."
"And... thank you for burning Quirrell... for saving me from the broom..."
Harry stammered, nervously pinching his robe hem, his words tumbling out.
Jane's expression softened, and she pulled out a wrapped bottle of beauty potion to give to Harry:
"Thank you for the books. Merry Christmas."
Harry accepted the gift dazedly, feeling blood rush to his face. The surge made his head hot, and he blurted out:
"Would you like to see your Special Services to the School award in the Trophy Room?"
He regretted it immediately, realizing it meant "breaking curfew," worried Jane wouldn't agree.
But to his surprise, she agreed instantly.
After all, "night wandering" held its appeal for Jane. Though she had already maxed out her reputation with the professors and likely wouldn't lose points, she still wanted to push her luck a bit.
"But I need to mail these Christmas gifts first," she replied.
When she mentioned needing to use the school owls, Harry immediately offered his Hedwig.
"She's a snowy owl, much faster than any of the school owls."
Jane happily accepted his suggestion.
After Hedwig took flight, Harry draped the Invisibility Cloak over both of them as they headed toward the fourth floor.
"This Invisibility Cloak was my father's. No one can see us now," he whispered.
They arrived at the Trophy Room.
The room was filled with crystal display cases containing cups, shields, plates, and statues.
"Filch loves making students polish the awards as punishment," Harry explained. "Last time I was here was when that git Malfoy tricked me into a duel."
Jane examined the awards carefully, searching for her name.
But first, she spotted a name quite similar to Harry's:
Chaser - James Potter.
