Chapter 2 - Chapter 2 / The Thief, The Slave and The Traitor

Portal. A wizard with a staff. Symbols in an unknown language. A beastly face under the moonlight. Flashes of memories flickered in Virginia's mind. It felt like a nightmare she couldn't wake up from. Had she gone mad? Was reality even real?

Virginia Mustfill felt strong arms lifting her, gripping her legs, pressing against her back. Something of immense strength was carrying her, yet she couldn't move. The blow had been hard. She could only perceive what was happening around her through a haze, as if trapped in a fog.

"Stop…" Virginia managed to mumble through the rift between her mind and reality.

"This bastard will wake up soon," came a muffled voice, piercing her semi-consciousness.

"Doesn't matter. They'll hang him tomorrow anyway," replied another voice from behind.

Metal creaked, and suddenly, Virginia felt weightless—then the harsh impact of being thrown to the ground. The beast dropped her onto a cold, hard surface. A chilling cold wrapped around her body, pulling her further into the depths of unconsciousness. Her mind plunged into the ocean of her own thoughts once again.

It was unclear how long Virginia remained unconscious. Wherever her body lay, her mind was sinking deeper into the past, back to when she was a teenager longing for adventure. Images began to materialize from nowhere, dancing before her: her parents' indifference, consumed by their constant arguments; the loneliness of having no friends; the bullying from classmates; and the fact that she was still a virgin at eighteen...

But suddenly, a voice broke through. It was loud, pulling her from the ocean's darkness. Another word followed, and a hot hand grabbed Virginia by the waist, fighting against the darkness that clung to her. Each word weakened the shadowy grasp, and finally, a sharp cry tore her free from its hold.

Virginia opened her eyes.

"Can you hear me, boy? Wake up," someone whispered. Silence enveloped her surroundings.

"What? Where am I?" Virginia tried to sit up, but her strength was draining away, as if her soul had sprung a leak and her energy was seeping out like blood from a dead wizard's body.

"Finally," a voice said behind her. "You got hit pretty hard."

"My head…" Virginia pressed a hand to her forehead, wincing as pain shot through her temple like a needle. "Ah…" she groaned, noticing a few drops of blood on her fingers.

"What did you do to deserve such rough treatment? Let me guess: theft?" The voice was low, but there was a hint of concern.

"Where am I?" Virginia asked, looking around.

She was sitting on a cold stone floor, surrounded by metal bars. In the distance, the faint light of a torch flickered behind a closed door. Moonlight struggled to seep through a small window, veiled by the clouds of the night.

"You're in the Moonwhisper City prison. So, what did you do, boy?"

The voice's owner remained hidden in the darkness, in a neighboring cell. The torchlight didn't reach him, and the moonlight seemed to avoid his window altogether.

Virginia lowered her gaze and spotted her glasses on the floor. They must have fallen off when the beast had thrown her into the cell. She bent down to pick them up but felt an unfamiliar discomfort—something was off, something that hadn't been there before.

"What the hell?" she whispered weakly.

"What? What's wrong?" the voice grew closer, but its owner remained unseen.

Virginia lifted her dress and reached into her underwear. Her hand immediately grasped something foreign—a member and two testicles, undeniably there.

"No…" Virginia yanked her hand away, stumbling back until she hit the cell wall.

"Got it. I see," the voice replied calmly. "You thought you were clever, didn't you? Tried to steal a guard's coin purse, maybe? And when the escape failed, they taught you what happens when you mess with the Church of the Kyrexian Dominion."

"I'm… a guy…" Virginia's thoughts raced, and suddenly, she remembered the wizard.

"What?" The voice was now right at the edge of the cell.

"That fucking wizard turned me into a guy!" Virginia screamed. Her voice echoed through the cells, amplifying the throbbing pain in her temple.

"A wizard? No! Stop!" the voice shouted back. "Listen to me." It was trying to break through her panic as she clutched her now-flat chest.

"My chest is gone. There's a… thing in my pants. I'm a freaking guy."

"Just listen!" A loud clang echoed as a fist struck the bars of the adjacent cell. "You need to tell your story. Everything that happened to you. Who are you? What's your name? How did you end up with the wizard?" The voice had lost its friendly tone; now it was stern, like a master scolding a disobedient slave. "I'll go first. My name is Korvus Nightshade. Call me Kor, or Korvus, whichever you like."

"I…" Virginia hesitated for a moment, as if struggling to remember her own name. "I'm Virginia. Virginia Mustfill," she said, her voice trembling. She was in another world, in a prison. A wizard had altered her body, and now she was a man—a young, slender boy. However the wizard's magic worked, her body was smooth, with no hair except for a light red fuzz in the groin area.

"Great! Now we're getting somewhere," Korvus's deep voice softened, losing its harshness.

"I tried to steal an artifact from the Kyrexian Dominion. Not some petty street theft—I was on a mission from the Guild. The target was that artifact. But they caught us. Everyone else was killed in the fight. I was captured and thrown in here. People like me? They love to execute us publicly—for the crowd's entertainment. What about you?"

"I was at university…"

"University?"

"Academy," she corrected herself, recalling the conventions of fantasy novels she'd read. "It was in another world."

"Another world? Shit. I don't like where this is going."

"I was with my friends, Melissa and Anna… Then I was alone, and a portal appeared. I ended up in a forest. That's where the wizard found me."

"YES, a wizard! Tell me more about him. Did he say his name?"

"No, he only spoke words in a strange language. Symbols surrounded his staff."

"What kind of symbols? What did they look like?"

"I don't know, I can't explain."

"Were the symbols straight or curved? Think carefully. This is very important."

"Curved..." The girl recalled the glowing staff. "He said it was ancient magic..."

"How ancient?" The voice turned stern again, like an interrogation.

"When the world was just a point in space."

"Shit! Damn it, damn it, damn it..." the voice yelled. "What happened next?"

"He finished one spell and started another, but the guards killed him."

"And they knocked you out?"

"Yes," Virginia remembered everything she could.

"I see," Korvus concluded. "This is very bad."

"Why? What did he do to me? How can I break this curse?"\

"Listen, I won't lie to you. That was Lyraeus. Just his name is terrifying. Many will stop talking if you even mention him. Lyraeus is one of the most powerful wizards. He's one of the few who managed to learn the ancient magic you spoke of."

"Why me?"

"Not you. People like you... He was born centuries ago. He had a natural gift for magic. There were legends that he was born at the very source of magic. As a child, he could perform spells that ordinary wizards would take years to master. College of Wizards from distant lands immediately took him as a student. There, over decades, he mastered all the knowledge the college could offer. But it wasn't enough for him. He began studying forbidden knowledge. And the ancient magic. He wanted to know everything..."

"Why me?"

"Not you specifically. But people like you... He learned everything, even unlocked the secret of immortality. He became eternal. For him, magic became just a toy. And then he got bored. He decided to entertain himself. He craved pleasure... You understand?"

"Pleasure?" Virginia heard Lyraeus's words echo in her mind.

"'Forever hungry. Forever desiring a man's body. Forever unsatisfied.'"

"He didn't just want simple sex… He wanted absolute control. He wanted his companions to serve him, to satisfy him in every possible way. He began abducting young men, using ancient magic to gain complete control over their minds. They became his slaves, happy to serve him. Only he could give them the pleasure they craved, without which they would go mad."

"'Only I can give you the pleasure you desire.'"

"And when he created an entire harem for himself, the Kirexian Dominion found him. It was an incredible battle. The castle he created out of nothing was completely destroyed. The entire surrounding area burned as the Dominion wizards fought him. Many died. And he vanished."

"And then what?"

"They said he was killed. That he died. But... there were other rumors... They said he no longer needed young men. Not from this world. Knowing ancient magic, he could manipulate space itself. He could tear it apart and—"

"Create portals to other worlds..." Virginia continued.

"Exactly, abducting young men from other worlds and making them his slaves. But later, he resurfaced. Here and there, people spoke of him."

"Oh no..."

"And there was one guy... Crazy. He ranted that he was a girl from another world. That Lyraeus found it amusing to fuck men who were once women. The mind of a maiden trapped in a man's body. That's what he said back then..."

"I..."

"But if what you're saying is true... He only managed to turn you into a man and curse you with a lustful curse. But the guards killed him before he could make you his slave."

"Yes, that's right... He started casting spells, saying that only he could give me pleasure. But they killed him. How is it possible that such a powerful wizard was killed so easily?"

"Magic... Ancient magic requires total concentration. Perhaps because of that focus, the guards were able to kill him."

"Shit..."

"Wait... If he managed to cast the first spell... Then... Are you cursed? Eternal hunger for a man's body?"

"Yes..." Virginia nodded into the night. "But I don't feel anything..."

"It's not time yet. But very soon... you'll feel an overwhelming desire. And if you don't... you'll go insane."

"Wow, such a fucking fantasy story," Virginia concluded. "This is madness."

"Understood..." the voice remained low. Clouds retreated under the moonlight's assault, and its beams began to fill the prison cells.

"And what should I do?" Virginia threw up her hands.

"Listen... There's more bad news. Worse than your lustful curse..."

"What could be worse?" Tears started streaming down Virginia's cheeks, her eyes filled with confusion.

"The guards captured you because they believed you were Lyraeus's slave. And under Dominion law... You're to be burned. And considering they threw you here as one of Lyraeus's slaves... This is the execution wing. I hoped they'd send me to the Carnvol Citadel, where I could try to escape or break free during transport... But... Since you're here, it means they'll hang me too."

"Shit..." Virginia wiped her eyes with the scraps of her dress.

"We need to escape. I know a place where we can hide," the moonlight crept closer to the speaker, revealing that he wasn't just a stranger.

"How do we escape? The cell door... it's..."

"But first, let's shake hands."

The speaker stepped forward, and the moonlight revealed his appearance. Virginia stood up, her eyes widening. It was a goblin. Short, but his figure exuded incredible strength. His gray skin, smooth as stone, bore no trace of hair. His body was solid, as if forged, with veins visibly coiling around his arms like a web. His abs, sharp as edges, were pronounced beneath the thin shirt clinging to his muscular body. His legs, though hidden under pants, seemed ready to tear the fabric, emphasizing their power with every movement. And most strikingly, beneath his pants, barely concealed by the fabric, was a prominent bulge, catching the moonlight. His elongated ears, slightly exaggerated, couldn't distract from his grin, which revealed sharp fangs. His wide, flat nose gave his face a wild, yet captivating look. He looked young, perhaps twenty or twenty-five in human years.

"Are you... a goblin?!" Virginia exclaimed in surprise.

"As you see," Korvus took a step forward and extended his hand through the cell bars. "Did you imagine me differently?"

"No... I... I've never seen a goblin before," she stammered.

"Do we not exist in your world?" Korvus asked, genuinely curious.

"We don't even have magic," the girl replied.

"Well then..." Korvus's deep voice softened. "It's time for us to get out of here."

"But how?" Virginia clasped Korvus's strong hand.

"In my team," Korvus approached the iron door of his cell and leaned toward the lock, "I was very good at picking locks. That's why they accepted me into the crew, despite me being a goblin. You know, my kind has a pretty nasty reputation. And that's exactly why we decided to rob the Dominion Church—the vault lock guarding the artifact was considered unbreakable."

"And you managed to crack it? Let me guess... a magical lockpick?" The girl smiled for the first time since arriving in this new world.

"Close enough. A thousand mechanisms in that lock. But I unlock most of them," Korvus crossed his fingers over his hand and moved closer to the lock. His fingers twitched slightly, the index and middle ones alternating as if they were invisible tools. "You don't need a key when you can imagine one."

A click echoed, and the lock fell to the stone floor. Korvus pushed the door open with his strong hand, the hinges creaking as the door swung free. The goblin stepped out of the cell and approached Virginia, smiling faintly at her.

"How are we going to escape?" Virginia gripped the bars of her cell as Korvus came closer to the lock.

Crossing his fingers again, Korvus focused on the lock. Only now, being this close, did Virginia realize just how short he was. He barely came up to her waist, yet his presence felt stronger, more imposing than before.

"Moonwhisper is an old city. For centuries, it's been attacked countless times—by goblins among others. Once, part of the city was even burned down. But it was rebuilt again and again. The thing is, there's a network of old tunnels beneath the city. Certain people know where the entrances and exits are. The prison, conveniently, is built above one of these entrances. We need to get down—to the very foundation of the prison. There should be a tunnel entrance there. That's how we'll escape."

Another click, and the lock on Virginia's door fell to the ground. Korvus opened the door and approached the young man's body that housed Virginia's soul.

"You do realize..." Korvus smirked, "that with such a sweet-looking body, you'll stand out quite a bit if I keep calling you Virginia?"

"What?" Virginia blinked at him. His amber eyes glimmered with mischief. "Yeah... you're right. I guess that wouldn't work," she muttered.

"You look a lot like an 'Eugene,'" the goblin said, taking the young man's hand. "I'll call you Eugene."

"I like that name," Virginia quickly accepted her new identity as Eugene.

"Then let's go," Korvus said, squeezing Eugene's hand as he led the way. "We need to keep as quiet as possible."

***

The goblin cracked the door open and peeked out. A long corridor stretched before them, lined with countless doors. Behind those doors were prisoners—those who had wronged the Church of the Kyrexian Dominion in some way. Thieves, murderers, rebels, and dissenters. Anyone who had defied the Dominion. Korvus was a thief; Eugene was Lyreus's slave. Both were sentenced to death. But deep in the Moonwhisper prison, there were others far more dangerous than a thief or a slave.

Moving slowly to avoid making noise, Eugene peered into the small windows of the cell doors. Inside, two to four cages held prisoners. Humans, just like him. People who had committed crimes and were marked for execution. This was the middle level of the prison, reserved for death row inmates. The upper level housed drunks and brawlers. But on the lowest level, at the very foundation of the prison, lay the special cells.

"What's down there?" Eugene asked, clutching Korvus's hand as they neared the end of the corridor.

"Something dangerous. Even I wouldn't mess with them," Korvus said, pausing at a corner to glance ahead. Several guards patrolled the area in the distance. "Heretics and wizards."

"Wizards? Are there many in this world?"

"Enough. But all of them serve the Dominion. A wizard who refuses to serve becomes a threat. They're hunted down and locked up below."

"And what's so bad about them?" Eugene pressed against Korvus's back. The heat radiating from the goblin's body was beginning to warm him. Despite Korvus's short stature, his back felt broad and strong. Eugene found himself wanting to touch it with his free hand, as though something urged him to.

"We'll need to be careful when we go down there," Korvus turned to Eugene. "The guards up here are just soldiers, meant to keep ordinary people in line. Down there, you'll find wizards—possibly more than one."

When the guards' torchlight faded, plunging the corridor into darkness, the thief and the slave quickened their pace toward the staircase leading to the lower levels. As they reached it, they heard footsteps approaching. The guards were returning. The glow of their torches began to creep along the stone walls.

Eugene glanced into the window of one of the cells. It was empty. He gestured to Korvus to hide. The goblin opened the door and pulled the red-haired slave inside, pressing them into a corner. It was a blind spot, invisible from the window.

"Get down," Korvus tugged Eugene's hand, and the young man obeyed the goblin's command.

They were so close now that Eugene could feel the heat radiating from Korvus's body. The goblin's warm breath grazed Eugene's neck, sending shivers through him. Something inside Eugene began to stir.

Korvus looked into Eugene's eyes and smirked slightly. No human would willingly trust a goblin. Yet here Korvus was, escaping prison with one. Perhaps the goblin was beginning to understand Lyreus's fascination with summoning slaves from other worlds. They were far more intriguing than the locals—and they had no prejudices.

"Listen," a voice sounded from behind the cell door. One of the guards peeked through the small window. "His execution isn't until tomorrow."

"So, what are you suggesting?"

"Well... he's Lyraeus' filth. A slave craving a dick to fuck him."

"And?" the other guard replied.

"We could have some fun. He'd gladly give himself to us."

"Hah," the guard laughed. "But he won't enjoy it anyway."

"Because only Lyraeus could ever satisfy him..."

Eugene and Korvus exchanged glances. The young man began to notice how deep Korvus' eyes were. It seemed as if beauty was frozen within the amber of his gaze.

"The last time I had a whore was a couple of days ago. I could use some release," the second guard admitted.

"Then, shall we visit our guest?"

The guards chuckled, and the torchlight vanished from the window. Their footsteps faded away.

"They'll come into the cell and see we're gone," Eugene whispered nervously, gripping the goblin's hand tightly.

"They won't look for us below," the goblin reassured, opening the door. Together, they returned to the staircase.

Descending it, they found themselves underground. There stood something resembling an elevator, which would lower them deeper into Moonwhisper's prison. Down there, they would find their salvation.

Once inside the cabin, the goblin pulled the lever, and the counterweight system began lowering them. With every meter of descent, they started to hear sounds absent in the main prison block. And when the elevator finally stopped and the doors creaked open, they realized what they'd been hearing. Screams. Screams so visceral, it felt as though souls were being ripped from their bodies.

The sheer volume of the cries drowned out Eugene's own thoughts. Korvus let go of Eugene's hand for a moment and took a few steps forward.

This was no longer a prison. It was a torture chamber. Dried blood stained the floor. Fear coursed through Eugene's veins, rushing toward his heart. He didn't know why, but his thoughts battered him like waves destined to crash against cliffs.

The goblin—short but sturdy—was his only shield, his only defender. Broad shoulders and strong arms. To Eugene, Korvus felt like the embodiment of something he'd never experienced in this world or the one before it: protection and safety.

"What is this place?" Eugene asked.

"A holding ground for heretics and deserters"wizards," Korvus whispered, though his voice was instantly swallowed by the screams.

They moved forward. The section was a network of large rooms, each containing prisoners. Around them shimmered faint glows, and above each person hung crystals that glimmered like the one in Lyraeus' staff. These were sources of magic, sealing the captives in mystical cells.

"Stay close," Korvus said, taking Eugene's hand again and pulling him along.

The thief and the slave moved with haste. Surprisingly, there were no guards here, nor were there Dominion wizards, as Korvus had feared. The prisoners were too weakened by torture to notice the two intruders trying to escape. They only groaned in agony.

Then they heard a voice and quickly hid behind one of the columns supporting the ceiling.

"What were you offered to betray the Church of the Kyrexian Dominion?" a cold, female voice demanded.

"Go to hell!" came the growled reply.

"You betrayed the Dominion by agreeing to hand over information about the artifact!"

Eugene and Korvus crept around the column, edging closer to the partition where the voices echoed. Beyond it, in a containment field, was something Eugene recognized.

A creature. A beast.

It resembled a wolf, but it wasn't one. Something in between. The fur, elongated snout, and sharp fangs spoke of a wolf, but the anatomy was human—hands, feet, and a chest. The beast, like the other prisoners, was trapped in a sphere that rendered it immobile.

"Go to hell!" the beast growled again.

"You'll die here," the woman, clad in robes resembling Lyraeus', ran a finger through the air. The beast roared in pain as a wound began forming on its chest. Wherever the woman's finger moved, a laceration of the same length appeared on the beast's flesh.

"But first, you'll tell me everything," she hissed.

Clenching her fist, she caused the creature to convulse violently, as if its very soul was being pierced. Its body spasmed, each muscle, organ, and fiber wracked with agony.

The beast roared.

The woman stepped back, releasing her grip. The pain ceased. Gasping for air, the beast lowered its head.

"You know magic can make anyone talk," she said, stepping closer to the golden sphere. "You know how this ends. It breaks you, just as it has broken all the others. Every heretic, every deserter has spilled their secrets to the Dominion. You are no exception."

"You..." the beast whispered weakly, chuckling. "You don't even know what that artifact is, do you? It's been in the vault for hundreds of thousands of years... It was placed there long before the Dominion even existed..."

"You…" The woman raised her hand, but froze suddenly.

In the distance, a siren blared. Someone had escaped!

Taking a few hurried steps back, the wizard rushed toward the elevator. She knew she would find the fugitives far quicker than the idiot guards ever could.

When the elevator doors shut, the chamber fell silent, save for the beast's ragged breathing. Korvus and Eugene stepped out from behind the column. Eugene approached the sphere holding the beast. Fantasy stories he'd read as Virginia came flooding back to him. Magic, sorcery. Evil wizards. Heroes saving the innocent. But this was no fantasy. No matter how strange this new world seemed, magic here was nothing but destruction. Though Korvus used magic to pick locks, the wolf's ravaged body stood as a grim reminder of what magic truly was in this world: a tool of curses and torment.

"What are you doing?" Korvus tugged Eugene's hand. "We need to go. If she comes back, she'll kill us."

"Can you break the lock? Disable the crystal?" Eugene asked.

"No, I can't," Korvus replied, his gaze piercing Eugene. "That's not a lock. It's magic. Not something I can just pick apart."

"But you said you almost broke into the artifact vault."

"Almost... And there was no magic there."

"There was..." a hoarse voice came from the sphere. "The physical lock is just part of the vault system."

"There was?" The goblin was surprised, letting go of the red-haired young man's hand. "Do you know what's there? What kind of artifact is it?"

"No," the wolf shook his head, "I only know that it was created... from the remains of the gods.

"We need to leave," Korvus was scared. Eugene knew Korvus only a little, but the fear in his voice alarmed him.

"Why?"

"There wasn't even time when the gods died. If the artifact was made from their remains... this is fucking dangerous...

"You're a magician, right? "Eugene approached the sphere closely. The wolf shook his head.

"Lyraeus..."

"He's dead... "the wolf rasped.

"How do you know?" The goblin looked around, searching for the tunnel entrance.

"His death... caused a surge of magic." The wolf lifted his head, looking at the thief and the slave.

"Everyone felt it. Every... every magician felt the surge."

"So that was his death... It felt like a shudder in the chest."

"For you... Those who can feel magic, those who studied... It's comparable to a heart stopping."

"Lyraeus cursed me," Eugene spoke to the wolf. "He turned me into a boy, wanted to make me his slave... I... I became a slave to desire... I need to find a way to break the curse. Do you know ancient magic?"

"No, "the wolf was losing strength. "But I know someone who... can... who... might... who... saw..."

"Korvus, "Eugene addressed the goblin. "He can save me. Please..."

The goblin looked at the red-haired boy with broken glasses in a silly woman's dress. Then he glanced at the wolf, who was on the verge of losing consciousness.

"Do you know how to break the crystal? How to disable it?"

"In the crystal, there are flows..." the wolf's voice weakened. "Magic intertwines... forming knots... cut the knots..."

"Eugene, "the goblin turned to the boy, "look for the exit. There should be an exit here somewhere."

The goblin raised his hand, staring at the glow of the crystal, and crossed his fingers. Subtle movements, finger twitches, the wolf saw him watching intently. Eugene Mustfill ran to find the exit. However it looked, it had to be found. They were being hunted, and soon they would be found. The Dominion witch would soon realize that the thief and the slave were no longer on the upper levels of the prison and would return here. Where's the exit?

Korvus tensed, his arm muscles seemingly growing. Searching for the knot was difficult. But for the first time, he felt the flows of magic. Weak, barely perceptible movements in the energy came together. Almost like mechanisms in locks. But only in magic. The goblin, whom no one had ever taken by the hand, the goblin who taught himself to read and write, the goblin who had never been to the College of Wizards, managed to find the magic knot and cut it. The crystal cracked.

Somewhere in the distance, the sound of counterweights at work was heard. The elevator was starting to descend. The Dominion witch had searched the prison and found no one. Whatever the prison looked like on the outside, it was clearly not easy to escape from it. And that meant the thief and the slave were still inside. And since they weren't on the upper levels... they must be here. Below. Close to the traitor of the Church of the Kirexian Dominion.

"EUGENE!" the goblin shouted as he cut another knot. The crystal cracked again.

"There's no exit here! "Eugene pressed his hands against the wall.

"Magic is everywhere..." the wolf whispered. "You can see it... you can hear it... it's in the skies...

"He's babbling nonsense," Korvus cut another knot of magic, and the crystal cracked, starting to flicker. The golden sphere around the wolf began to disappear and reappear.

"It's in the earth... it's in the water... it's in the living... in people... in beasts... in fish..."

Korvus cut the last knot, and the crystal shattered right in the air. The sphere vanished. The wolf's restraints, which had been holding him, collapsed. The goblin stepped back, breathing heavily. Eugene rushed to Korvus, helping him up. The goblin motioned with his hand, signaling that he was okay. The red-haired boy ran to the wolf, trying to lift him, but he was too heavy, and Eugene was just a boy.

The prisoner raised a finger, extending a claw, and ran it along his arm. Blood oozed from the wound. Dropping his finger into the wound, the wolf pulled out a small crystal. The crystal immediately began to glow.

"It's beneath us... run..." The wolf looked at the wall and flicked his finger.

A powerful wave of magic rushed past Eugene and Korvus, straight into the wall. The stonework was shattered, revealing a cliff behind it. Somewhere below, the sound of water was heard. Tunnels! They were beneath the prison. Using them, they could escape. Korvus rushed to the wolf, helping him get up.

"Good luck... find... in the Broken Hearth..." The wolf, rising to his feet, moved away from his allies

Barely standing, the prisoner raised his hand, holding the crystal. Symbols appeared around him for a moment. They were different, not like those on Lyraeus's staff. A completely different type of magic. And in a second, the wolf began to flicker. It was as if he was both there and not there at the same time. Then he vanished.

"Shit, he left us! "Korvus turned around and saw the lift doors opening as the Dominion Witch stepped out. "Run, jump"

Pulling Eugene by the hand, Korvus jumped into the abyss and vanished into the darkness. Eugene ran to the hole in the wall and, looking back, saw the witch waving her hand. And something dense, yet simultaneously thin, flew toward the slave of desire. A blade. An invisible blade that sliced everything in its path, moving quickly and relentlessly toward the boy. Taking a step through the hole in the wall, hoping there would be some ledge in the dark, Eugene was wrong. There was no ledge. Only the abyss. Eugene fell into the darkness. The blade, hitting the hole in the wall, knocked out more stones, which followed Eugene Mustfill.

The thief, the slave, and the traitor escaped from the prison of the city of Moonwhisper.
