Mira
All nine alphas belonging to the Moonrise Covenant, will be meeting today. The Moonrise Covenant was signed many generations ago in order to maintain peace between packs but also to regulate trade and ensure the growth of each pack evenly. The history of the Covenant is taught in school as it is very important to our way of life. Each pack governs themselves but there are laws written into the covenant that are universal throughout.
My heart beats in synchrony with the bell tower. All the servants have jerked into motion, each to their assigned duties, while i am stuck, rooted to the spot I've been standing in. I know what i am supposed be doing but something in my gut tells me to stay rooted to this spot, next to the main entrance where any minute, the alphas will be walking through.
My palms are sweaty and my mouth feels dry. What is going on? I feel as if i am on the edge of a cliff, suspended on the edge, ready to fall off. Lydia is calling my name but she sounds so far away, the sound muffled as if i was miles under water.
The main entrance door opens and three males stride in. I instantly recognize each one. They are all what you would describe as the perfect specimen. All tall, extremely good looking, charismatic, with imposing presence. Alpha Asher, of the eclipse pack, he's the one with onyx hair and green eyes. Alpha Ridic, of the Invictus pack, with golden brown hair and rich brown eyes and a jawline that could cut through glass.
When the last one comes into view, it feels as if all the air has been sucked in. He is gorgeous. With a perfect head of platinum blonde hair, that i'd love to run my fingers through. His eyes are a dark gray and perfectly complement the shade of his hair. He has sharp cheek bones and a jaw that looks as if it was scultped by the gods. But as i take in the rest of him i realize who is and i am instantly dissapointed that he is so gorgeous. Alpha Orion, I've never seen him before but I know who he is because of the black tactical gear he is wearing, everyone knows the Legion pack uniform. On the right side of his chest is a patch with the Orion constellation. Narcissist much? No one knows much about the Legion, it is rumored to be more of an army than a pack.
I chuckle at how serious he must take himself, bet he gives himself a pep talk in the mirror every morning. But then his eyes snap in my direction and his eyes flash an unmistakeable silver that take my breath away. It all last only a milisecond because i am being yanked back by my hair. "What the hell is wrong with you girl!" Lydia whisper-hisses.
I barely catch Alpha Asher chuckling "Looks like Orion found a threat. A poor serving girl is out to get us!"
i dont catch his response if he has one because i am already back in the kitchen, massaging the spot in my head thats burning. Geez she may have pulled some hairs out.
"Im giving you one more chance Mira, do your job or you will be fired!"
I dont have anytime to fix the strands of hair she pulled out from my braid so i grab one of the white caps some of the other serving girls wear and get to work.
-----------
For the past hour I've been making sure all the wine glasses are spot free and in perfect position on the table. All the Alphas have been in the drawing room for cocktail hour before dinner. No women are allowed in the drawing room, well except the only female Alpha in existence, Alpha Selene. I wonder how hard she had to fight for her right to be there. The only other woman in attendance is the Luna of the Equinox pack and she has been kept in a separate room. Alpha Rowen is the only Alpha that is mated.
As werewolves we have our fated mates that are predestined by the Celestial Astraia, who uses the stars to divine your perfect match. It is said that your fated mate has been determined long before you are born. She weaves the fate of us all through cosmic treads that connect us by our destined one. That all sounds lovely but finding your fated mate is another issues entirely. Some never get to meet their fated mate. I imagine that is the fault of the other celestials, particularly the one in charge of fate.
Im broken out of my thoughts as Matron Lydia walks in with a slew of trays behind her. Each one serving elegant dishes, that smell wonderful. The servers then stand outlining the room, ready to offer the dish they carry once the Alphas are seated. I take my place in on of the corners ready the bottle of wine chosen for the first course.
The sound of voices fills the door that leads to the Drawing room. Alpha Asher is the first to walk in and the rest follow through. Most are in the middle of conversation with each other but there are some that just stoically walk in. Just as before my heart thuds wildly in my chest and i struggle to keep my shit together. Alpha Orion is the next to walk in and I am convinced its because of his dark aura. He makes me nervous, maybe its because of the stories that he is cruel and ruthlessness.
His head is turned, talking to the male who must be our Alpha, Raiden. This is the first time I've laid eyes on him. He mostly keeps out of sight but I've seen him on television a couple of times. Man the cameras dont do him justice. His hair is dark and shoulder length, his eyes a piercing sapphire blue. He is sporting a five o'clock shadow that perfectly accentuates his lush lips.
I inhale deeply in an attempt to slow my heart but that only makes both of them whip their heads in my direction. I stare at them in horror at causing a distraction for them and i am met with silver eyes shining like molten silver. Alpha Orion's jaw ticks and he seems like he is about to say something but is cut off by a feral growl emitting from Alpha Raiden. I can feel my skin tingling and the hairs on the back of my neck stand on edge but before i can apologize, run away or just stop existing i am tackled to the ground by Alpha Raiden and all hell breaks loose.
