I walked down the street with my hand holding onto the handle of the suitcase. The wheels rolled across the ground sometimes popping up on the uneven terrain. I glanced around with an intense feeling of nostalgia that made my chest feel stuffy, It almost felt as if I was seven years old again and on my way to go explore the forest with friends.
'They probably don't get many visitors' It was hard to ignore all the stares that came from villagers.
The people were going about their days hanging up dry cleaning on wires while some were chatting but all of them glancing in my direction when I walked by. I wasn't someone who was uncomfortable under the spotlight but I still found it nervy, Although I couldn't blame them since I was dressed in a very inconspicuous way.
Most of the people I came across were wearing short sleeves to beat the heat while I had on a pair of jeans and a jacket. I was so used to the weather back home that I had made a slight over sight on my part, Luckily I wasn't to attracted to anything I had so I could just cut it into something comfortable if i couldn't find extra clothing.
'It really is the same' Of course after so long there were many changes but I could still see many familiar things.
I passed by the small convenience store that me and my sisters used to buy candy at, It was one of the only stores in the village and since the nearest city was almost an hour away it used to be undoubtedly popular. I also saw the old library that seemed to look even more abandoned than it did years ago.
"Mn?" I paused for a second coming to a stop.
Straight in front of me was a normal wall that was on the side of some building that I couldn't recognize. Judging from the large beer cup on the sign I could guess it was a bar, But what made me tilt my head was that the wall had four large holes that were around two feet wide lined up side by side.
'Is it still under construction?' I found it very confusing and even had to tilt my head to try to understand.
'I guess it gets too hot out here' After a couple seconds of thought I came to the conclusion that it the holes were for ventilation.
I eyed the bar for a few more seconds before continuing forward with my suitcase rolling behind me. I wasn't expecting a someone to at least talk to me but the only thing I received was glances, I wasn't bothered though since my mind was a complete mess despite how calm I looked on the outside.
'Mom…' I felt my heart clenching at the thought of seeing my mother after so many years.
I felt a mixture of excitement and nervousness that couldn't be described. I dreamed of this moment since I was eight years old and blood rushed through my veins. It was no different for my sisters as well, The last memory I had was hugging them goodbye while all of us cried our eyes out.
'This is it….' I came to a stop just in front of a decent sized cottage that I instantly recognized.
It had two floors and was surrounded by neatly planted flowers and a small fence for decoration. Compared to the mansion I had come from the cottage was shabby at best but to me it looked perfect, Everything from the small cracks on the porch all the way to the leafs that hadn't been racked up yet.
