Chapter 31 - Chapter 31 : Leader

---

A Hidden Warehouse Outside of Buguera

Inside the dimly lit warehouse, countless drones hovered mid-air, projecting hyper-realistic flames that made the entire space feel like an inferno.

Hum!

Boom!

As more drones came online, a massive horde of fire elementals appeared, wreaking havoc on simulated buildings, their towering forms exuding an aura of destruction.

"Listen up, people—no mistakes tonight!"

Mysterio—Quentin Beck—stood beneath the hovering drones, his expression severe. His sharp gaze swept over his crew as he continued, "No unexpected variables. No interruptions. Tonight, we lay the groundwork for the grand finale."

His voice was laced with urgency. This performance was more than just another illusion—it was a prelude to something greater.

"The birth of a new savior," he declared, his hands gesturing dramatically. "And that savior is me."

He paused, letting the gravity of his words sink in before speaking again.

"So we cannot afford any errors."

The last staged attack, featuring a water elemental, was supposed to be his magnum opus—a display of heroism that would cement his place as Earth's greatest protector.

But it had been disrupted.

A rogue faction had intervened.

Tonight had to be flawless.

"Quentin, there's a problem—Scarlet Witch is in town. And her power? It's real magic," Wilhelm, his tech specialist, warned.

Mysterio's brow furrowed. Wanda Maximoff was a wildcard—one that hadn't been in the original equation.

"She wasn't supposed to be here," he muttered. "I tracked every Avenger's location—how the hell did she slip through?"

"Turns out," Wilhelm said, pulling up data on a nearby monitor, "she booked a last-minute trip to Venice."

Quentin clenched his jaw.

Damn it.

"Fine. Then we move fast. We need to execute before she gets to the scene," he ordered.

Wilhelm nodded. "We'll do our best to delay her arrival."

"Good. Now, let's put on a show."

Mysterio spread his arms wide, and the drones responded instantly, casting a shimmering layer of light around him.

Hum...

The illusion formed around his body, and within seconds, his figure was swallowed by swirling green mist.

Meanwhile, in Buguera...

The city was alive with celebration. Bright lights illuminated the streets, reflecting off the historic architecture as people gathered for the annual Festival of Lights.

Music filled the air, blending with the laughter and chatter of tourists.

Amidst the festivities, a figure moved unseen.

Whoosh!

A shadow flitted across the rooftops, landing gracefully atop a clock tower.

"Peter? Are you there yet?"

Nick Fury's voice crackled in his earpiece.

"Don't tell me you're still on your way."

Spider-Man sighed, adjusting his mask. "I'm here, Fury. But so far, everything seems normal."

His job was simple: Recon. Identify the threat. Neutralize if necessary.

Suddenly—

Boom!

A figure landed beside him.

"Whoa—who the hell are you?"

Peter's reflexes kicked in as he leaped back, his muscles tensing. The streetlights cast enough glow for him to see the intruder clearly.

A man clad in sleek black armor stood before him. His face was obscured by an ornate mask adorned with gold markings. His stance was calm, yet commanding, his piercing eyes exuding an air of mystery.

Peter had seen many things—but this?

This was new.

"Relax," the man said in a measured tone. "I'm not your enemy."

"Peter? Who's there?" Fury's voice cut in again.

Peter hesitated. "Uh… I don't know yet."

The masked figure chuckled. "Oh, but you do."

He took a step forward.

"You've heard of me before. People call us the Shadow Group or Shadow Organisation."

Peter's eyes widened.

The Shadow Group —the same group that had wiped out the water elemental threat the night before.

"Wait—you're with them?"

"Not just with them." The man crossed his arms. "I lead them."

Peter blinked.

The leader of the Shadow Group was standing right in front of him?

"You're kidding," Peter muttered.

"Do I look like I'm joking?"

Peter wasn't sure what to think. He had seen what the Shadow Group was capable of—taking down threats that even Avengers struggled against.

And now, their leader was here.

"Alright," Peter relented. "Why are you here?"

"The same reason you are," the man said. "The Fire Elementals are about to emerge."

Peter stiffened.

The Fire Elementals—he hadn't even mentioned them out loud yet.

Which meant—

This guy really knew what was coming.

"Fury," Peter whispered. "I think I believe him."

"Don't trust him so easily, kid," Fury replied. "Keep your guard up."

But before Peter could respond—

Hum... Chi!!!

A low, unnatural rumbling filled the air.

The crowd below shifted uneasily.

Something was wrong.

At the center of the plaza, a towering statue loomed above a grand fountain.

And now—it was glowing.

Bright red veins of molten heat pulsed beneath the stone surface. The air around it shimmered with intense heat, distorting the light.

Coo coo coo...

The water in the fountain began to bubble.

Then—

BOOM!

The statue exploded.

A burst of fire and molten rock erupted skyward, sending a shockwave across the plaza.

Screams filled the night as the crowd scattered.

From the shattered remains of the statue, something massive emerged.

A colossal entity of living lava rose from the ground. Towering above the city square, its molten body dripped streams of fire onto the pavement, leaving glowing fissures in its wake.

Its eyes—burning embers of pure rage—locked onto the terrified civilians.

Roar!!!

The Fire Elemental had arrived.

Nearby streetlamps burst from the sheer heat radiating off its form.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Peter immediately pressed his earpiece.

"Fury! The Fire Elementals are here!"

"About time," a voice cut in.

Peter looked up—

A swirling green mist descended from the sky.

From within it, a lone figure emerged, landing with precision.

Mysterio.

He looked the part of a hero—soaring in with dramatic flair, his fists crackling with what appeared to be raw power.

But he knew the truth.

None of it was real.

Mysterio raised a hand, aiming at the monstrous Elemental.

"Stand back, everyone!" he bellowed. "I'll handle this!"

His illusion was flawless.

To the panicked citizens, he was a beacon of hope.

But to Finn?

He was a fraud.

"Peter!" Fury's voice snapped him back to focus.

"Get those people out of there!"

Peter nodded. "On it!"

As he prepared to swing down, he heard Mysterio's voice again—this time, directed at him.

"Spider-Man…"

Peter turned, only to find Mysterio staring not at him—but at the man beside him.

His tone darkened.

"Who is that?"

Peter hesitated.

Then, against all instincts, he answered.

"He's the leader of the Shadow Group ."

Mysterio's eyes narrowed.

And in that moment—

The real battle began.
