What Heals You, Breaks Me
As I stood in front of the mirror, adjusting my tie for what felt like the hundredth time, I couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. The Youth Banquet was tonight, and I was going solo. Again. It wasn't like I had a problem with attending social events alone, but it seemed like everyone else had already found their plus one.
I sighed, running a hand through my hair. Why did it have to be so hard to find someone who genuinely understood me? I thought back to all the times I'd tried to put myself out there, only to be met with superficial conversations and fake smiles.
It was exhausting, trying to keep up the facade of being the "perfect" student. Sometimes I felt like I was living in a dream, where everyone else was the star, and I was just a supporting actor.
I took a deep breath, trying to shake off the feeling of inadequacy. Tonight was supposed to be fun, after all. I would put on a smile, dance with the girls, and pretend to have the time of my life.
But as I turned to leave, I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror, and for a moment, I saw the real me – the one who was tired of pretending, tired of being alone. And I'm Japhiex.
Meanwhile, Faith sat in her room, surrounded by piles of books and notes. She was determined to finish her research project on the history of broadcasting, but her mind kept wandering to the Youth Banquet tonight.
She wouldn't be attending, of course – she had too much work to do. Besides, she wasn't exactly the party type. Faith's phone buzzed, breaking her concentration. She glanced at the screen, but it was just a reminder about her project deadline.
Faith sighed, rubbing her tired eyes. Why did everyone else seem to have their life together, while she was stuck in a never-ending cycle of schoolwork and responsibilities? She pushed the thoughts aside, focusing on her project.
Little did she know, her life was about to take an unexpected turn, one that would change everything.
As Faith's voice echoed through the auditorium, Japhiex found himself lost in the sea of faces, his eyes drifting toward the stage. And then, he saw her - Faith, standing confidently in front of the microphone, her eyes sparkling with passion as she spoke. Japhiex's breath caught in his throat as he was struck by her beauty, his mind momentarily blanking out. He felt a pang in his chest, a feeling he couldn't quite explain. Without realizing it, he whispered a silent prayer, his thoughts tumbling out in a jumbled mess. "Please, just let me get through this night without making a fool of myself. And maybe, just maybe, let me find a way to talk to her without stumbling over my words."
The banquet finally came to a close, the last of the guests trickling out of the venue. Japhiex lingered, lost in thought, until he was the only one left. As he stepped out into the cool night air, he was greeted by the sound of soft sobbing. His eyes scanned the darkness, homing in on a figure huddled on a bench near the entrance. Faith. She was crying, her body shaking with silent sobs. Japhiex's heart went out to her, and without thinking, he found himself walking toward her, his footsteps quiet on the pavement. He hesitated for a moment, wondering if he should intrude on her private moment, but something about her distress called to him. He sat down beside her, not saying a word, just being present.
Japhiex cleared his throat, trying to think of something to say. He didn't want to scare her off, but he couldn't just sit there in silence. "Hey, are you okay?" he asked softly, trying to sound non-threatening. Faith looked up, startled, and their eyes met for the first time. Japhiex felt a jolt of electricity run through his body, but he tried to brush it off. He was here to comfort her, not to get caught up in his own feelings.
Faith sniffled, wiping her nose on her sleeve. "Yeah, I'm fine," she said, her voice shaky. Japhiex didn't believe her, but he didn't push the issue. Instead, he nodded sympathetically and sat back, trying to give her some space.
They sat there in silence for a few moments, the only sound being the distant hum of traffic. Japhiex tried to think of something to say, something that would comfort her without prying into her personal business. "It's tough, sometimes," he said finally, his voice low and gentle. "Life, I mean. It can be overwhelming."
Faith looked up at him, her eyes searching. "You have no idea," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. Japhiex nodded, feeling a pang of empathy. He didn't know what she was going through, but he knew what it was like to feel lost and alone.
They sat there for a few more moments, the silence between them growing more comfortable. Japhiex didn't try to fill the silence with words; instead, he just sat there, being present for this stranger who seemed to need someone to talk to. And as they sat there, he felt a sense of connection growing between them, a sense of understanding that went beyond words.
As they sat there in comfortable silence, Faith finally seemed to relax, her tense shoulders easing down as she let out a deep breath. "Thank you," she said softly, looking up at Japhiex with a hint of a smile. "I needed that."
Japhiex smiled back, feeling a sense of satisfaction at having been able to help. "No problem," he said. "Take care of yourself, okay?"
Faith nodded, standing up and smoothing out her dress. "I will," she said. "Thanks again. I'll see you around school, I guess."
Japhiex stood up, too, and smiled at her. "Yeah, definitely. School's out for break tomorrow, but I'll see you when we get back."
Faith smiled back, looking more relaxed than she had all evening. "Sounds good. Have a great break, okay?"
Japhiex nodded, waving at her as she turned to leave. "You too," he said, watching as she walked away into the night.
As he stood there, feeling the cool night air on his face, Japhiex couldn't help but smile. He had no idea what had been bothering Faith, but he was glad he'd been able to help. And as he turned to walk away, he felt a sense of anticipation. He had a feeling that this chance encounter might be the start of something more.
Japhiex groggily opened his eyes, rubbing the sleep from his eyelids as the beeping of his alarm clock and the ringing of his phone assaulted his ears. He reached over to silence the alarm and picked up his phone, seeing AJ's name flashing on the screen.
"Hey, man," AJ said, his voice loud and cheerful. "What's up? Got big plans for break?"
Japhiex yawned, stretching his arms over his head. "Not really," he said, his voice still rough from sleep. "Just the usual stuff. Hanging out, gaming, maybe catching a movie or two."
AJ laughed. "Sounds like a solid plan, dude. I was thinking we could hit the beach on Friday, though. The weather's supposed to be sick."
Japhiex hesitated, thinking about the encounter with Faith the night before. He hadn't told AJ about it yet, and he wasn't sure if he wanted to. "I don't know, man," he said. "I'll have to check my schedule."
AJ's tone turned skeptical. "Your schedule? Dude, it's break. You don't have a schedule. Come on, it'll be fun. We can bring some girls, have a little party..."
Japhiex sighed, knowing that AJ wouldn't let up until he agreed. "Fine, I'll come," he said. "But don't expect me to be all crazy and wild, okay?"
AJ whooped in triumph. "That's the spirit, Jax! I'll pick you up at 10 on Friday. Don't forget your sunscreen!"
Japhiex rolled his eyes, smiling despite himself. "I won't," he said, hanging up the phone.
As he swung his legs over the side of the bed, Japhiex's mind began to wander back to Faith. He wondered what she was doing today, and if she was thinking about him too. He shook his head, chuckling wryly. He was getting ahead of himself. They'd only just met, after all. But there was something about her that had stuck with him, something that made him want to see her again.
Japhiex sat at the kitchen table, shoveling a spoonful of cereal into his mouth as he scrolled through his phone. He was mindlessly swiping through a social media app when he saw a familiar name pop up - Faith. His heart skipped a beat as he saw that she was tagged in a photo with a group of friends, all of them smiling and laughing together.
Japhiex's eyes lingered on Faith's face, taking in the bright smile and sparkling eyes. He felt a pang of curiosity and quickly searched for her profile, sending her a friend request. A few minutes later, his phone buzzed with a notification - Faith had accepted his request.
Japhiex's face broke out into a wide grin as he opened the messaging app and sent Faith a simple smiley emoji. 🙂 He waited anxiously for a response, his eyes fixed on the screen.
A few minutes later, Faith replied with a laughing emoji. 😂 "Stalker much?" she teased.
Japhiex chuckled and sent back a sheepish emoji. 🙈 "Guilty as charged," he admitted. "But I have to say, I'm glad I stumbled upon your profile. How's your break going so far?"
Faith's response was immediate. "It's been good! Just relaxing and catching up on some reading. How about you? Any big plans?"
Japhiex leaned back in his chair, feeling a sense of excitement and nervousness. He was actually talking to Faith, and she seemed interested in getting to know him better. He decided to take a chance and be a little more flirtatious. "Well, I was thinking of hitting the beach on Friday with some friends. Want to join us?"
There was a pause before Faith responded, and Japhiex's heart sank for a moment. But then, his phone buzzed with her reply. "I'd love to! But only if you promise to build me a sandcastle 😊."
Japhiex's face lit up with a wide grin. He felt like he was on top of the world. "Deal!" he replied, already imagining the two of them laughing and building sandcastles together.
Friday morning dawned bright and sunny, but Japhiex's excitement was short-lived. As he was getting ready to head out to the beach with AJ and the others, his phone buzzed with a text from AJ.
"Hey, man, I'm so sorry, but we're going to have to cancel today's plans. I've got a family emergency that I need to take care of. I'll catch up with you later, okay?"
Japhiex's heart sank as he read the message. He had been looking forward to spending the day with Faith all week. He quickly typed out a response to AJ, sending his condolences and telling him to take care of himself.
But as he sat there, staring at his phone, Japhiex couldn't shake off the feeling of disappointment. He had been really looking forward to seeing Faith today. And then, an idea struck him. Why not invite her out for a walk instead?
He quickly pulled up Faith's number and sent her a text. "Hey, I've got some bad news. AJ's had a family emergency and we're going to have to cancel our beach plans today. But I was thinking, since the weather's so nice, maybe we could go for a walk instead? There's a really pretty park near the river that I've been wanting to check out. Would you like to join me?"
Japhiex waited anxiously for Faith's response, his heart racing with excitement. A few minutes later, his phone buzzed with her reply.
"Aww, sorry to hear that about AJ. But I'd love to go for a walk with you instead! The park sounds beautiful. What time were you thinking?"
Japhiex's face broke out into a wide grin as he read Faith's message. He quickly typed out a response, suggesting they meet at the park at 2 pm. As he hit send, he couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation. He had a feeling that this walk was going to be the start of something special.
Japhiex arrived at the park early, eager to get a good spot to wait for Faith. He found a bench overlooking the river and sat down, taking a deep breath to calm his nerves. He couldn't believe how excited he was to see Faith again. It was like he had been waiting for this moment for weeks.
As he sat there, he couldn't help but feel a little nervous. What if Faith didn't show up? What if she had changed her mind about meeting him? Japhiex pushed the thoughts aside and focused on the present moment. He took a deep breath, feeling the cool breeze fill his lungs, and gazed out at the river.
As the minutes ticked by, Japhiex began to feel a little anxious. Faith was running late. He checked his phone for what felt like the hundredth time, but there were no messages from her. Just as he was starting to worry that she wasn't going to show up, he saw a figure walking towards him from the distance.
It was Faith. She looked a little flustered, her hair slightly disheveled and her cheeks flushed. "Hey, I'm so sorry I'm late," she said, out of breath, as she approached the bench. "Traffic was a nightmare, and then I got lost in the park..."
Japhiex smiled, feeling a wave of relief wash over him. "It's okay, I'm just glad you made it," he said, standing up to greet her. "You look a little frazzled, though. Are you okay?"
Faith nodded, taking a deep breath as she sat down beside him on the bench. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just a little stressed out, that's all. Sorry again for being late."
Japhiex shook his head, smiling at her. "Don't apologize, really. It's not a big deal. I'm just glad we're here together now." He paused, looking at her with a curious expression. "So, shall we start our walk? The park is really beautiful this time of year..."
As they strolled through the park, Japhiex and Faith couldn't help but laugh and joke around. They walked along the winding path, taking in the sights and sounds of nature.
At one point, Japhiex tried to impress Faith by pretending to be a bird expert. "Oh, look! A rare species of... um... bird!" he exclaimed, pointing to a nearby pigeon.
Faith giggled. "That's a pigeon, Japhiex. Not exactly rare."
Japhiex grinned. "Oh, right. Well, in that case, let me show you my expert bird-calling skills." He proceeded to make a series of ridiculous squawking noises, causing Faith to burst out laughing.
As they continued their walk, they stumbled upon a group of ducks swimming in the river. Japhiex, being the goofy guy he was, decided to try and feed them. However, instead of bread, he pulled out a bag of potato chips from his pocket.
Faith raised an eyebrow. "Um, Japhiex? I don't think ducks eat potato chips."
Japhiex shrugged. "Hey, they might like the salty flavor! Who knows?"
The ducks, however, were not impressed. They quacked and swam away, leaving Japhiex and Faith in hysterics.
As they walked further, the sun began to set, casting a warm orange glow over the park. Japhiex and Faith found themselves lost in conversation, sharing stories and laughter.
And that's where I'll stop for now! 😊 Please go ahead and continue the story!
As they sat on the bench, Faith turned to Japhiex with tears welling up in her eyes. "Thank you for being here for me, Japhiex," she said, her voice trembling. "It means a lot to me."
Japhiex smiled softly, his eyes filled with compassion. "I'm here for you, Faith. Always."
Faith took a deep breath, her shoulders squaring as she began to open up. "I was in a relationship before...with someone else. We were together for a few years, and I thought we were happy. But then...things just fell apart."
Japhiex's expression turned curious, but he remained silent, letting Faith continue.
"I was ready to commit to him completely, but I think he got scared. He started pulling away, and I didn't know how to reach him. We had a big fight, and...and it ended. Just like that."
Faith's voice cracked as she spoke, and Japhiex could see the pain and vulnerability etched on her face. She buried her face in her hands, and her body shook with sobs.
Japhiex's heart went out to her. He could feel her pain, her sadness, and her regret. He reached out, pulling her into a warm hug. Faith didn't resist, instead, she wrapped her arms around him, holding him tightly.
As they sat there, wrapped in each other's arms, Japhiex stroked Faith's hair, whispering words of comfort in her ear. "It's okay, Faith. You're safe now. I'm here for you."
Faith's sobs slowly subsided, replaced by sniffles and quiet tears. Japhiex held her close, letting her cry, letting her heal. As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm orange glow over the park, Japhiex knew that this was just the beginning of their journey together. A journey of healing, of growth, and of love.
As the days turned into weeks, Japhiex and Faith's friendship continued to blossom. They spent their days texting, chatting, and going out on adventures together. Japhiex couldn't believe how much he enjoyed her company, and he found himself falling deeper and deeper in love with her.
Faith, on the other hand, seemed oblivious to Japhiex's feelings. She treated him like a close friend, always laughing and joking with him, but never giving him any indication that she felt the same way.
Despite this, Japhiex couldn't help but hold onto hope. He loved the way Faith's eyes sparkled when she laughed, the way her hair fell in loose waves down her back, and the way her smile could light up an entire room.
As they spent more time together, Japhiex found himself becoming more and more comfortable around Faith. He started to open up to her about his hopes and dreams, his fears and insecurities. And to his surprise, Faith listened with kindness and compassion, offering words of encouragement and support.
One day, as they were walking through the park, Faith turned to Japhiex with a mischievous grin. "Hey, want to do something crazy?" she asked, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
Japhiex's heart skipped a beat as he looked at her. "What did you have in mind?" he asked, trying to sound casual despite the butterflies in his stomach.
Faith's grin grew wider. "Let's go on a road trip! Just the two of us. We can drive to the beach, watch the sunset, and just enjoy the moment."
Japhiex's heart soared at the suggestion. A road trip with Faith? It sounded like a dream come true. "That sounds amazing," he said, trying to contain his excitement.
Faith squealed with delight, throwing her arms around Japhiex's neck. "Yay! I'm so glad you're in! Let's start planning!"
As Japhiex hugged Faith back, he couldn't help but feel a sense of joy and contentment. He knew that he was falling deeply in love with her, but for now, he was just happy to be by her side.
As Japhiex stepped out of the car and onto his front porch, he couldn't help but feel a sense of relief and exhaustion. The road trip with Faith had been an absolute blast, but it had also been a long and tiring journey.
He smiled to himself as he pulled out his phone and saw a text from Faith. "Hey, just wanted to let you know I'm home safe and sound," she wrote.
Japhiex's heart swelled with affection as he read the message. He quickly typed out a response. "Awesome, glad to hear that! I'm home too, just getting ready for bed. Thanks for an amazing trip, Faith. I had the best time with you."
Faith responded almost immediately. "Aww, thanks Japhiex! I had an amazing time too. You're the best road trip buddy ever!"
Japhiex chuckled to himself as he read the message. He loved the way Faith could always make him laugh.
As they continued to chat back and forth, Japhiex found himself feeling more and more relaxed. He was happy to be home, happy to have had such an amazing adventure with Faith, and happy to be able to unwind with her now.
Finally, after a few more minutes of chatting, Faith sent him a goodnight message. "Night, Japhiex. Sweet dreams!"
Japhiex smiled, feeling a sense of contentment wash over him. "Night, Faith. Sweet dreams to you too."
With that, he slipped his phone back into his pocket, yawned, and headed inside to get some well-deserved rest. As he drifted off to sleep, he couldn't help but smile, knowing that he had Faith in his life, and that their adventures together were only just beginning.
As the days went by, Japhiex couldn't help but notice a change in Faith's behavior. They had been chatting and hanging out regularly, but suddenly, Faith seemed distant. Her responses to his messages were brief and lacked the usual warmth and enthusiasm.
At first, Japhiex brushed it off as Faith just being busy or stressed. But as the days went by, he started to feel a growing sense of unease. Every time he suggested they hang out, Faith would come up with a reason why she couldn't make it. She was busy with work, or had a family gathering, or just needed some alone time.
Japhiex tried not to take it personally, but he couldn't help but feel like he was being pushed away. He started to wonder if he had done something wrong, or if Faith was just losing interest in him.
One day, as they were chatting online, Japhiex decided to confront Faith about her distant behavior. "Hey, is everything okay?" he asked, trying to sound casual. "You seem a bit... distant lately."
Faith's response was immediate, but it didn't quite reassure Japhiex. "Yeah, everything's fine," she said. "I'm just really busy with work and stuff. Don't worry about it, Japhiex."
Japhiex wasn't convinced, but he didn't want to push the issue. He decided to give Faith some space, hoping that she would come around eventually.
But as the days went by, Japhiex couldn't shake off the feeling that something was off. He felt like he was losing Faith, and he didn't know how to stop it.
Japhiex walked along the roadside, chatting with his best friend, AJ, on the phone. They were discussing their plans for the semester break when Japhiex suddenly realized he needed to pick up some dinner. "Hey, AJ, I'll call you back later, okay? I need to grab something to eat," he said, hanging up the phone.
As he entered the convenience store, Japhiex's eyes scanned the aisles, trying to decide what to buy for dinner. He wandered over to the frozen food section, contemplating between pizza and chicken nuggets.
Just as he was about to make a decision, Japhiex caught a glimpse of himself in the security mirror. But his attention was quickly diverted to the person standing behind him - Faith.
Japhiex's heart skipped a beat as he turned around, a huge smile spreading across his face. But his excitement was short-lived. As he turned, he saw Faith hugging and kissing someone - her ex-boyfriend.
Japhiex's smile faltered, and he felt like he had been punched in the gut. He couldn't believe what he was seeing. Faith, the girl he had been developing feelings for, was still involved with her ex.
Trying not to draw attention to himself, Japhiex quickly turned around and made a beeline for the exit. He didn't want Faith to see him, didn't want to confront her about what he had just witnessed.
As he slipped out of the store, Japhiex couldn't help but feel a mix of emotions - shock, disappointment, and a hint of sadness. He wondered if he had misread the situation entirely, if Faith had been playing him all along.
Japhiex took a deep breath, trying to process what he had just seen. He didn't know what the future held, but he knew one thing for sure - he needed to take a step back and reevaluate his feelings for Faith.
Japhiex sat on his couch, staring blankly at the TV as he watched a movie he'd seen countless times before. He was trying to distract himself from the thoughts that had been swirling in his head since he saw Faith with her ex-boyfriend at the convenience store.
Just as he was starting to get lost in the movie, he heard a knock at the door. He got up to answer it, and his heart sank when he saw Faith standing on his porch.
"Hey," she said, her voice soft and concerned. "I've been trying to reach you all day. Is everything okay?"
Japhiex shrugged, trying to play it cool. "Yeah, everything's fine. Just been busy."
Faith looked at him skeptically, but she didn't push the issue. Instead, she followed him into the living room and sat down next to him on the couch.
"Japhiex, I need to tell you something," she said, her voice hesitant. "I know you saw me with Kai at the convenience store. I want you to know that it's not what it looked like."
Japhiex raised an eyebrow, his heart aching with a mix of emotions. "What do you mean?"
Faith took a deep breath. "Kai and I...we have a complicated history. We've been on and off for years, and I know it's not healthy. But I care about him, and I'm trying to help him through a tough time."
Japhiex felt a pang of disappointment and sadness. He realized that he had been holding onto hope that Faith might feel the same way about him, but now it seemed like that hope was slipping away.
"Faith, can I tell you something?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
Faith nodded, her eyes locked on his. "Of course, Japhiex. What is it?"
Japhiex took a deep breath, his heart pounding in his chest. "I have feelings for you, Faith. I've had them for a while now. But I know that you don't feel the same way, and that's okay. I just needed to be honest with you."
Faith's expression softened, and she reached out to take Japhiex's hand. "Japhiex, I care about you deeply. You're one of my closest friends, and I value our friendship so much. But I don't feel the same way about you romantically. I'm sorry."
Japhiex felt a stinging sensation in his eyes as he processed Faith's words. He knew that he had been friend-zoned, and it hurt.
Faith hugged him tightly, trying to offer comfort. "I'm so sorry, Japhiex. I hope you can forgive me and that we can still be friends."
Japhiex was speechless, his emotions swirling in a mix of sadness and sorrow. He hugged Faith back, but it was a distant, mechanical gesture.
As they pulled away from each other, Faith looked at him with tears in her eyes. "I'll give you some space, okay? We can talk later."
Japhiex nodded, his voice still caught in his throat. He watched as Faith stood up and walked out of his house, feeling like a part of him was walking out the door with her.
As the door closed behind her, Japhiex felt a wave of sadness wash over him. He knew that things would never be the same between him and Faith again.
As the semester break came to an end, Japhiex returned to school with a renewed sense of purpose. He walked through the familiar hallways, waving at friends and acquaintances along the way.
As he turned a corner, he caught sight of Faith standing by her locker. Their eyes met, and they exchanged a warm smile. Japhiex felt a sense of closure and friendship, knowing that they had parted ways amicably.
Faith waved at him, and Japhiex waved back, before continuing on his way. He met up with his best friend, AJ, and they walked to their next class together, chatting about their summer break and the upcoming semester.
As they walked, Japhiex couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and possibility. He was ready to put the past behind him and focus on the present.
Later that day, Japhiex sat in his room, gazing out the window at the beautiful scenery below. He felt a sense of peace wash over him, knowing that he was exactly where he was meant to be.
Just as he was starting to relax, Japhiex heard a commotion outside his room. He turned to see a girl stumbling down the hallway, her books scattered all over the floor.
As she approached his room, she looked up and caught his eye. "Hi," she said, smiling awkwardly, as she bent down to gather her books.
Japhiex couldn't help but smile back at her. "Hi," he replied, feeling a spark of curiosity and interest.
As he watched her gather her books, Japhiex couldn't help but wonder who this new girl was, and what the future might hold for them.
