CHAPTER 4

NATHAN'S POV

After getting a call from my father about my supposed wedding in 3 days, I decided to go home after work and find out things myself. I knew my father was not joking or pranking me as he's not a man who jokes on serious issues like that. The only thing I can do is convince him of this joke of marriage, and if not, I will at least try to get the information on the woman I am to marry. I will find her myself, and we can arrange something, pay her or I don't have to. I am sure when she sees me in my condition, she will change her mind about marrying me.

''Nathan, what a surprise to see you here.''.I greeted my mother as she walked towards me and hugged me. ''Hey, I am here to talk to you guys about something. I answered as I noticed her smiling so much, and she seemed happy. I was about to ask her when I heard my dad on the phone as he came downstairs. ''Nathan, what brings you here today? you only visit when it's urgent.''.He said as he sat on the chair close to me. ''Why are you arranging a marriage for me? I am a grown-up who is capable of making my own decisions and choosing my wife.''.I said as I looked at him. ''Nathan, we gave you the opportunity to choose your wife, and it's been 10 years. You are 38 now, and you are not showing any progress in finding one. You are not getting any younger, and we need grandchildren; you run a big company, and you are not married at your age; people have started talking. You know a family man is respected because it shows he's responsible, and family people can trust you with their business.

''Dad, I don't need to be married for people to trust how I run the business. They can see how successful the company has been since I took over. There has been a lot of money in the company and investors; everyone wants to do business with us, and every company wants to be associated with us.

There is growth from where you left, right?" I said, hoping he would see reason with me. ''I know, Nate, but it's for your good; she is from a respectable family. You will make a great family, and you will learn to love each other. We have already talked and agreed with the family, and everything has been finalized; the wedding will take place at St. Jude's church and after the event at our hotel''.said my father firmly.

I could tell my father had made up his mind, and from the way my mother was grinning from ear to ear, I could tell she was beyond happy since she always wanted a daughter-in-law—another extra daughter, apart from my sister who is on campus and never seems to be home. ''Nate, please let's stop this back and forth, dear. We gave you ten years to find a wife yourself, but you keep saying all women are the same and all they want from you is your money, but you have to know the choices you made were the bad ones, and that clouded your judgment, and now you are using that as an excuse.

We can't choose a bad wife for you, and besides, from the investigation conducted, we can tell she's a good girl and respectable; that's all you need to know''.My mother said as she looked at me with pleading eyes to agree to this. She knew I would never say no to her as I loved her so much, and she was right, but I had to try one more thing on my sleeves.

''So, Who is she? I need details; I have to know the woman I am going to live with and how she looks like I have a type, you know.''.I asked my dad, hoping he would agree, and I would find the woman myself, and once I showed myself to her, she would back off, or I would pay her if I had to. ''Don't worry about the details. What matters is we have done our research, and we approved, Father stated, smiling as if he could tell the plans I had as he knew me well enough to know I would try to jeopardize their plan, but they beat me to it.

''You know she will not agree to the wedding once she sees me in this thing.''. I said, reminding them that I was in a wheelchair, hoping to see them defeated by their plans, but my father said something that killed the little hope I had. ''Oooooh, Nate Nate, she knows, and there is no coming out of this. And there is nothing wrong with you. Your manhood is working, right? So you will be able to perform husband duties and give us grandbabies, and your legs are okay. Just give it time. The doctors said you need to continue with therapy, and one day, you will be back fully walking''.

"It's late. I'm going to my house. I have meetings tomorrow." I started because I knew I was defeated, and there was nothing I could do, as now I am sure she's a gold digger. I felt disgusted by her just thinking how she could agree to marry a man she has never met, who she's aware is in a wheelchair, and agree to the marriage. Only a person who is interested in money won't care about all that as long as she gets what she wants.

"No work tomorrow. Your designer will come to the house to make your suit, and you will rest and prepare for your wedding. There are things you need to do in preparation for the wedding. I have asked the manager to take care of things in your absence until after the honeymoon." My dad stated, and he walked away, leaving me confused.
