Chapter 17 - chapter 17

Sarah's obsession took a dark and twisted turn as she concocted a desperate plan to drive a wedge between Adrian and Grace. She was willing to go to any lengths to make Adrian see Grace as a threat to his happiness and shift his attention toward herself.

Sarah carefully orchestrated her plan over several weeks. She began by subtly planting doubts about Grace's loyalty in Adrian's mind. During meetings or casual conversations, she'd drop seemingly harmless remarks.

"I heard Grace is working late these days," Sarah said casually one afternoon. "It must be tough managing everything. I hope she's not overburdening herself... or you."

Adrian would brush it off, but the seed was planted. Sarah knew it wasn't enough, though. To truly succeed, she needed something dramatic.

The Scheme

Sarah carefully orchestrated her plan over several weeks. She began by subtly planting doubts about Grace's loyalty in Adrian's mind. During meetings or casual conversations, she'd drop seemingly harmless remarks.

"I heard Grace is working late these days," Sarah said casually one afternoon. "It must be tough managing everything. I hope she's not overburdening herself... or you."

Adrian would brush it off, but the seed was planted. Sarah knew it wasn't enough, though. To truly succeed, she needed something dramatic.

Faking the Kidnapping

One evening, Sarah sent Adrian a panicked voice message.

"Adrian! Help! I'm being followed—please, I think someone is trying to kidnap me!" Her voice trembled with fear, and then the line abruptly cut off.

Adrian immediately called back, but Sarah's phone was switched off. Panic set in, and he called the police while trying to track her down.

Unbeknownst to Adrian, Sarah had staged the entire incident. She was hiding out in a remote motel, having hired two men to pose as her kidnappers. The plan was to let Adrian find her "rescued" in a state of disarray and blame Grace for orchestrating the whole thing out of jealousy.

When Adrian finally received word from the authorities that Sarah had been found, he rushed to the hospital where she was being treated. Sarah lay on the bed, her face pale and her wrist bandaged.

"Sarah! Are you okay?" Adrian asked, his voice filled with concern.

She gave him a weak smile. "Adrian… thank you for coming. I was so scared."

"What happened? Who did this to you?"

Sarah hesitated, her eyes filling with fake tears. "I don't want to believe it… but I overheard them mentioning Grace's name."

Adrian froze. "Grace? That's impossible. Why would she—"

"I don't know," Sarah interrupted, gripping his hand. "Maybe she thought I was a threat to your relationship. I swear, Adrian, I never meant to come between you two. I just wanted to work and support you like the old times. But… maybe she misunderstood my intentions."

Adrian's mind reeled. He didn't want to believe Sarah, but the accusation lingered in the back of his mind.

Adrian returned home that evening, visibly shaken. Grace noticed immediately.

"What's wrong, Adrian?" she asked, concerned.

"It's about Sarah," he began hesitantly. "She was kidnapped, and…"

"And what?" Grace pressed, her voice rising.

"She said the kidnappers mentioned your name," Adrian finished, his tone pained.

Grace's eyes widened in shock. "What? Adrian, you can't seriously believe that I had anything to do with this!"

"I don't want to believe it," Adrian admitted. "But Sarah wouldn't make this up. She has no reason to."

"No reason?" Grace snapped. "She's been obsessed with you for months! She's trying to drive us apart, Adrian, and you're letting her win!"

Adrian looked conflicted, but he remained silent. Grace, hurt by his hesitation, grabbed her coat.

"I can't do this," she said. "If you can't trust me, Adrian, then maybe we don't belong together."

As Grace stormed out, Adrian felt the weight of his doubts crushing him. Was Sarah telling the truth, or was Grace right about her manipulative intentions?

Meanwhile, Sarah celebrated her small victory, confident that she had successfully driven a wedge between Adrian and Grace. But her triumph was short-lived.

One of the men she hired to stage the kidnapping was caught bragging about the fake incident at a local bar. A curious bartender overheard and tipped off the authorities, who quickly pieced the story together.

Adrian received a call from the police a few days later, explaining the entire scheme. Shocked and enraged, he confronted Sarah in her office.

"How could you?" Adrian demanded, slamming the door behind him.

Sarah flinched but tried to maintain her composure. "Adrian, I don't know what you're talking about."

"Don't lie to me!" Adrian yelled, throwing a file onto her desk. "The police told me everything. You faked your kidnapping and tried to pin it on Grace! Why would you do something so twisted?"

Tears streamed down Sarah's face, but this time, they were real. "Because I love you, Adrian! I've loved you my entire life, and I couldn't stand watching you choose her over me!"

Adrian stared at her in disbelief. "You don't love me, Sarah. You're obsessed with an idea of me that doesn't exist. And now, because of you, I might lose the one person who truly cares about me."Grace couldn't hold back anymore. Sarah's relentless games, lies, and underhanded attempts to sabotage her relationship with Adrian had gone too far. After hearing yet another rumor spread by Sarah, Grace stormed into the company where Sarah worked. The tension that had been building for weeks was about to erupt.

She found Sarah in one of the conference rooms, laughing with a colleague. Grace pushed the door open, ignoring the startled looks.

"Sarah," Grace said sharply, her voice cutting through the air like a blade. "We need to talk. Now."

Sarah turned, feigning surprise. "Grace? What are you doing here? This is Adrian's company, not yours."

Grace stepped closer, her eyes blazing with fury. "Don't play innocent with me. I know you've been spreading lies about me. Faking your own kidnapping and blaming me? How low can you go?"

Sarah folded her arms, smirking. "Oh, come on. Don't act so self-righteous. You don't belong in Adrian's world. Everyone knows it—he'll see it too, eventually."

Grace clenched her fists. "You're delusional. Adrian chose me. Not you, not anyone else. And no amount of your scheming will change that."

Sarah's smile faltered, replaced by an icy glare. "You think you've won, don't you? You think just because Adrian's with you now, it's over? Let me tell you something, Grace. I've been in his life for years. I know him better than you ever will."

Grace stepped closer, her voice rising. "If you really cared about Adrian, you wouldn't be doing this. You're not just hurting me—you're hurting him, his company, his peace. But I guess that doesn't matter to someone as selfish as you."

Sarah's face twisted with rage. "Selfish? You're the one who swooped in and stole him! Adrian was fine before you came along."

Before Grace could respond, Sarah's hand shot out, slapping her hard across the face. The sound echoed in the room. Grace stumbled back, clutching her cheek, her eyes wide with shock.

"You don't get to talk to me like that!" Sarah shouted, her voice shaking with fury.

The commotion had drawn the attention of Adrian, who walked in just as Grace straightened herself. His eyes darted between the two women, taking in the tension and the red mark on Grace's cheek.

"What's going on here?" Adrian demanded.

Sarah immediately turned to him, tears welling in her eyes. "Adrian, thank God you're here! She just barged in and started accusing me of horrible things. She's out of control!"

Grace stared at Sarah in disbelief. "Are you serious right now? She slapped me, Adrian! She's been sabotaging us for weeks, and now she's playing the victim?"

Adrian frowned, his gaze shifting between them. "Grace, this is getting out of hand. What are you even doing here?"

Grace's heart sank at his tone. "You think I'm the problem? Adrian, she's been lying to you, manipulating you, trying to destroy us!"

Sarah sobbed dramatically. "I would never do that, Adrian. I've always supported you. I've only ever wanted what's best for you."

Adrian hesitated, visibly torn. "Grace, I've known Sarah for years. Are you sure you're not overreacting? Maybe this is just a misunderstanding."

Grace's voice broke with frustration. "A misunderstanding? She slapped me, Adrian! She's been spreading lies, and you're still defending her?"

Sarah sniffled, looking up at Adrian with wide, innocent eyes. "I'm so sorry this is happening, Adrian. I don't know why she's doing this to me."

Grace took a step back, her chest tightening. "You can't seriously be taking her side. After everything?"

Adrian raised his hands, trying to calm the situation. "I'm not taking sides, but you're both acting irrationally. We need to talk about this calmly."

Grace shook her head, tears of anger and hurt brimming in her eyes. "You're unbelievable, Adrian. If you can't see through her lies, then maybe you deserve her."

With that, Grace turned and stormed out of the room. Adrian called after her, but she didn't stop.

Sarah smirked as soon as Grace was out of sight, her tears vanishing like smoke. "I'm sorry you had to see that, Adrian. She's clearly unstable."

Adrian looked at her, conflicted. "I don't know what's going on between you two, but this needs to stop. I'll get to the bottom of it."

Sarah placed a hand on his arm, her voice soft. "Take all the time you need. I'm here for you, Adrian."

Adrian pulled away, his mind racing as he walked out, leaving Sarah alone with her victory.
