Chapter 12 - A New Look and a Flustered Fiancée

A New Look and a Flustered Fiancée

Renji's eyes fluttered open, the soft glow of morning sunlight filtering through the heavy curtains of his room. His entire body ached, a dull reminder of yesterday's intense duel with Leon. Letting out a groggy sigh, he shifted slightly—and that's when he noticed something unusual.

Liliana von Eldoria, his fiancée, was sitting right beside his bed, her head resting on the arm of the chair. Her soft, rhythmic breathing and the peaceful expression on her face made it clear she had dozed off while watching over him.

Renji blinked in confusion, staring at her delicate features. Did she really stay here the whole night? He hadn't expected the proud and elegant noble lady to go this far for him.

Before he could process the thought, Liliana stirred, her long lashes fluttering open. Their eyes met, and for a brief moment, there was silence. Then she straightened up abruptly, rubbing her eyes.

"Oh, you're awake," she said, her voice laced with relief. She leaned forward, scanning his face with a worried expression. "How are you feeling?"

Renji blinked again, his mind still a little foggy. "Uh... fine, I guess? But... why are you here?"

Liliana frowned slightly, looking away as if embarrassed. "You collapsed after your duel yesterday. I—well, I was worried. You pushed yourself too hard, you know. We all know Leon is strong, but you did your best." She paused, then added softly, "I think... I may have misunderstood you."

Renji chuckled weakly. "I didn't think you'd actually care."

Liliana shot him a glare, but before she could retort, something caught her eye—his eyes. She gasped audibly, leaning closer in shock.

"Your eyes...!"

Renji furrowed his brows. "Huh? What about them?"

Without a word, Liliana grabbed a nearby hand mirror and held it up to him. As soon as he looked into it, his eyes widened in surprise. His once dull brown eyes were now a deep, vivid purple, shimmering with an unnatural glow. But it wasn't just his eyes—his entire appearance had subtly changed. His hair looked darker, his features sharper, and an aura of quiet intensity surrounded him that wasn't there before.

"...What the hell?" he muttered, touching his face. "I look... different."

Liliana pursed her lips, eyeing him skeptically. "This isn't normal, Renji. Are you sure this is because of your so-called awakening?"

Renji shrugged, setting the mirror aside. "Who cares? I look good." He grinned mischievously and turned his attention back to her. Without warning, he reached out, gently pulling her into his arms.

Liliana stiffened instantly, her face heating up as his strong arms wrapped around her waist. "R-Renji?! W-What are you doing?!"

He leaned closer, his voice dropping to a teasing whisper. "You've been showing quite a bit of interest in me lately, haven't you? Staying by my bedside, worrying about me, complimenting me..." He smirked. "Could it be that you're starting to like me?"

Liliana's face turned scarlet. "Y-You're imagining things!" she stammered, struggling weakly in his grip. "I was just... fulfilling my duty!"

Renji chuckled, resting his forehead against hers for a brief moment before releasing her. "Relax, I'm just teasing."

Liliana, flustered beyond belief, quickly stood up and smoothed her dress, avoiding eye contact. "You're insufferable!" she huffed, storming toward the door. Before stepping out, she paused. "Still... I'm glad you're alright."

With that, she left, leaving Renji sitting on the bed with a satisfied grin. He glanced at the mirror once more, staring into his new purple eyes.

Things are changing faster than I expected... But hey, at least I finally look cool.

From beneath the bed, Nyx peeked out, letting out a low growl of approval. Renji smirked. "Guess we're in this together, huh?"

Little did he know, his transformation was only the beginning of something far greater.
