Chapter 1 - (ch. 1)The White Jewels

Hef slides into the town, quiet and unnoticed. I have carried no less than 4 white rabbits. His brown skin showed true under the faint orange glow of nearby streetlamps, revealing his hidden torn clothes. The Gaurds stomped noisy, unlike Hef, weightless steps that are quieter than a dead hound. Hef dodges all of the Gaurds, night hunting is illegal, but Hef takes it as a challenge. A game of cat and mouse. With no one around, night hunting was easier, no one around to chase after your game. That's why it's illegal, the kills have to be fair and declared.

"Hef. This is the 3rd time this week. You're going to get caught and killed on sight!" His father exclaims as Hef shuts the front door. Hef works on taking off his gloves, "The game isn't fair, father, but I love the rewards. Look, 4 of these rabbits. 3 hearty meals worth 2 days, how could I say no to having a lunch?" His father looks solemnly at him "You're missing the point, no amount of meat is worth losing our only son. Me and your mother tried so hard to have a boy, and now that we have you, I'm not letting you fall into a serious you dug." Hef chuckles and smiles at his father "I'm good at sneaking past those Gaurds, though. You know that, as long as you keep this underwraps from the girls, we're safe." His father sighs and heads to bed without another word. He takes care of his precious white jewels so they're carefully preserved and crashes on the couch and sleeps.

As the faint orange glow of the streetlamps fade and are replaced by the unmistakable yellow glow of the sunrise, Hef rises and rubs his eyes. He sees his mother working on breakfast in the kitchen. "Is father at work already? Am I late?" He asks, shooting straight onto his feet. "No, your father is... mm, dealing with a situation" She responds emotionless. "What type of situation?" Hef asks, concerned.

"Your illegal rabbit hunts" She responds.

"He's in trouble?!" Hef gasps, he starts pacing around.

"No, he's returning your rabbits into the forest."

"But they're frozen. And they have stab wounds still!"

Silence.

"He's returning frozen, dead, stabbed rabbits to the forest?!" Hef exclaims.

"Apparently" His mother squeaks.

"Jesus Christ!" He grabs his old hunting jacket and runs out the door hoping he can find his father.

The streets are flooded with the early risers, ready to open their shops and taverns for the day. Hef sighs, "this is hopeless!" and he only continued to feel like it was after searching for two hours. Hef puts his hands in his pockets and finds three caõ and decides that a drink wouldn't hurt. Hef finds a small tavern, he sits down on a stool silently.

"What can I get for you?" A young lady asks, uninterested. "Just a water is fine" Hef responds. "That will be a daq please" She says. Hef slides over a caõ to her and after a short inspection of the coin, her eyes light up. "A caõ? These aren't used as currency any longer, how long have you had this?" She asks, leaning over the bar, intrigued.

"Uh, I'm not sure? W-wait what do you mean though? Am I not allowed to pay with it anymore? I don't have any other money on me other than two more caõ" he says, patting his pocket where they lay.
