Chapter 2 - The Unification Core

"Ah, ok Jang" She sounded happy, Jang was amused by that even though he was baffled to be sent to this apocalyptic world with no information at all.

The gift given by the [World Tree] was an inventory where an infinite amount of items could be kept, the charm of Plantation given by the [Dragon of Farming] was a small pendant that had a Ying and yand design. Jang wore it. The cultivation technique given by the [The Great Cupid] was also there and it had a pretty lengthy explanation and also the Experience Link given by [The Love Star] allows the two of them to experience each others memories.

"Hmm, these constellations...are somewhat shameless" Jang only said that yet these gifts, there was nothing wrong with them, they were wedding gifts after all.

Hyacinth rubbed a vine on Jangs face. "They aren't bad though"

He froze for a moment, being touched by a vine felt foreign but Jang didn't want Hyacinth to think he found her strange do he gently touched vine. "Yeah they aren't but they could be better, hey since we have nothing to do let's read the Unification of two souls.

Hyacinth's voice quivered in his mind. "B-but I can't read"

Jang then placed a hand on his chin and came up with a quick solution. "I'll share my experience of learning then"

Hyacinth's trembled with excitement. "Would you really do that f-for me?"

"Ofcourse, since you are my wife I will share it" Jang didn't think of it as too much of a deal, he was just sharing a few memories of learning.

"Thank you, Jang," Hyacinth said, her voice soft but filled with a warmth that made Jang pause. She sounded genuinely touched, and it was hard to ignore how much she valued the gesture.

"Alright," Jang said, trying to play it cool. "Let's get started."

He tapped on the Experience Link icon on his system interface, activating the feature. A gentle pulse traveled through the golden ring on his finger, and he felt a strange tug in his mind as if something was syncing with his consciousness.

[Activating Experience Link… Sharing Memory: Basic Reading and Writing Skills. Initiating Synchronization.]

Jang closed his eyes and focused on the memory. It was faint at first—a classroom filled with chatter, a teacher guiding young students through their ABCs, and his own childlike curiosity as he tried to write his name for the first time. The memory unfolded like a dream, vivid and tactile, and he felt Hyacinth's presence watching and absorbing every detail.

"I-I see it," Hyacinth said, her voice trembling with awe. "The shapes… the sounds… this is what reading is? It's amazing"

Jang smiled. "Yeah but it really isn't that amazing"

"Well I think it's nice and I also think you were cute when you were small" Hyacinth curiously observed his past self.

Jang felt embarrassed and let out a fake cough. "Ahem, well since now we are done let's start"

"Okay" Hyacinth softly replied.

He took out the scroll from their personal space and then opened it up.

"The Unification of two souls: A cultivator technique which allows the soul of two different beings too embrace one another and deepen relationship, it is a dual cultivation technique that is in a spiritual form, the two souls would have to combine their energies to create a Unification Core and would have to share a meaningful memory to each other as it passes through the core, one that is complete, the two souls would become one as they cultivate gaining two cultivation points every minute" Jang then continued reading it.

"The two souls don't necessarily become one since that could cause irreversible damage to psyche but once the Unification Core is formed, the two souls would be able to create spirits from the latent spiritual energy, this is passive and cannot be actively initiated, the spirits do not provide anything special but once a number of them are gathered they would become an offspring of both souls" Jang stopped reading and blinked. "Wait, offspring of both souls? Are they seriously telling me that spirits made from this technique can… you know, turn into actual kids?"

"...I-is it that bad" Hyacinth nervously asked.

Jang rubbed his head. "...I mean it's not that bad, let's ask the constellations after they come back in two weeks."

Hyacinth seemed to relax at his response, her voice quiet but relieved. "Oh… okay. I guess we can wait. It's just… I didn't know cultivation could be so… complicated."

Jang sighed, folding the scroll back into his inventory. "Yeah, neither did I. These constellations keep throwing us into the deep end with all these vague instructions and weird mechanics. I mean, an 'offspring' core? What's next, raising a spirit farm?"

[The Dragon of Farming chuckled faintly in the distance, its voice echoing as if it had caught wind of his sarcastic remark. "Don't give me ideas, mortal."]

"you're supposed to be offline, so go away" Jang spoke irritated.

When he saw no more messages he sighed in relief. "Ok Hya let's start"

"Hya?" Hyacinth asked curiously.

"It's a nickname I just came up with" Jang said hoping she doesn't hate it.

Hyacinth's voice quivered with delight. "H-Hya… I like it. It sounds… special."

Jang chuckled lightly. "Well, you're special, so it fits. Now, let's actually get this cultivation thing going before another constellation decides to butt in."

Hyacinth's vines swayed slightly, a sign of her nervous excitement. "Alright. I'll do my best, Jang."

Jang nodded and took a deep breath, steadying his mind. "Okay, focus on the energy connection we made earlier. We'll combine our energies again, but this time, we need to pour a meaningful memory into it."

Hyacinth hesitated. "A meaningful memory? Do… do I even have one? I mean, I've only been alive for a short while…"

Jang smiled softly, placing a reassuring hand on one of her vines. "It doesn't have to be long or complex. Just something that means a lot to you—anything that makes you feel something deep inside. Trust me, it'll work."

Hyacinth seemed to ponder his words before nodding. "Alright… I think I have one."

The two closed their eyes (A/N:Well Jang has eyes), and the energy between them began to hum again. Their spiritual connection deepened as they poured their focus into the Unification Core.

A memory Jang wished to never remember appeared.

"Brother?! Look I drew me and you" Her voice was like the sound of autumn leaves ruffling around the wind. Jang had a smile on his face, it was bitter yet it was sincere. "Rian, you're so energetic today, why so?"

The girl pouted. "Hey I am always energetic, I was just sad you don't visit me all the time"

Jang chuckled, the girls face was obscured by a strange white cloud, he couldn't remember what she looked like, it saddened him yet it was meant to be, to not remember such memories to him was a commitment yet he was just trying to forget someone he onced cared about.

Slowly the cloud dissipated and revealed a gurl with a bright smile and yellow eyes that shined like the golden rays of the sun, her long black hair fell over her back and her sickly pale skin didn't make her look less beautiful.

"Do you like it, Brother?" she asked, holding up the drawing. It was messy and childlike, but it was filled with vibrant colors and care. A stick figure of Jang stood next to a smaller one, both surrounded by swirls of yellow that resembled sunshine.

Jang knelt down in the memory, placing a hand gently on her head. "It's beautiful, Rian. You've got talent, you know that?"

Rian giggled, her laughter like a melody. "You always say that! One day, I'll draw something so amazing that even the stars will be jealous!"

The memory lingered for a moment before it shifted. The room darkened, and Rian's bright smile faded into a memory of her lying in a hospital bed, her golden eyes dim but still full of hope. Jang stood by her side, holding her hand as the machines around her beeped softly.

"You'll keep going, won't you?" Rian's voice was weak, but her gaze never wavered. "Even if I'm not here anymore… promise me, Jang. Promise me you'll keep moving forward."

Jang's throat tightened as he remembered his response. "I promise, Rian. No matter what… I'll keep going."

The memory dissolved, leaving Jang's heart heavy yet oddly lighter at the same time. He opened his eyes to find Hyacinth's vines surrounding him, her presence warm and comforting. "That was sad, are you ok?"

Jang couldn't help but feel a bit of melancholy. "Yeah it was a long time ago so don't worry about it"

Hyacinths vines slowly wrapped around his arm. "O-ok but you can talk to me whenever you're feeling sad"

Jang gently reassured her. "Okay, but it seems i won't be forgetting this memory... it's your turn to share"

Hyacinth's vines twitched nervously as if reflecting her unease. "My turn? I… I don't know if my memory will be as meaningful as yours," she murmured.

Jang smiled softly, reaching out to touch one of her vines. "It doesn't have to be anything grand, Hya. Just share something important to you. It'll mean something because it's yours."

Encouraged, Hyacinth closed her eyes, her energy trembling before stabilizing as she began to share her memory.

Suddenly, Jang found himself standing in a lush forest bathed in dappled sunlight. Massive roots twisted and turned beneath his feet, pulsating with life. In the center of the forest stood a towering tree that seemed to touch the heavens—its branches glittering with leaves of gold. The sight was breathtaking.

Suddenly a woman with gold hair and a face obscured with golden light appeared and bent down towards the image. "Sigh, it looks like you can't grow like the rest of your siblings huh, it has been almost three thousand years since you sprouted but yet your still like this, but I shall give you my blessings as I find someone suitable for you, I'll be watching over you and if the person isn't suitable well... I'd just have to end them"

The [World Tree] spoke in an affectionate yet threatening tone.

Hyacinth spoke gently. "This was the first and last memory I had before I found myself here with you"

Jang came to a realisation and immediate came to a conclusion that Yggdrasil was shameless. "So my Mother-in-law is the [World Tree] great, well now that we shared our most important memories we have to now create a Unification Core using the energy from our souls"

Hyacinth's vines twitched nervously at Jang's realization. "Mother-in-law? Is that… what she is to you?"

Jang sighed, rubbing his temples. "Well, considering she threatened to 'end me' if I wasn't suitable, it sure feels that way. I mean, what kind of parent introduces themselves with a threat?"

Hyacinth chuckled. "I'm pretty sure she means good"

"Yeah, yeah let's start the formation" Jang closed his eyes and Hyacinth followed along.

Soon almost five minutes passed and nothing was happening, Jang and Hyacinth still didn't break away from his concentration soon countless minutes passed and an hour elapsed. Their patience finally played off.

Jang could feel the warm embrace of Hyacinth's soul enveloping his, at some point in the embrace their spiritual energy started moving wildly to the point that it was almost drained.

So the ambient spiritual energy that was all around them started to be absorbed instead, the sky rumbled as droplets of rain started falling on Jang and Hyacinth. The surrounding air was thick with energy, crackling like static before a storm. Above them, a faint glow began to form, spiraling in intricate patterns as the Unification Core took shape. It pulsed with a steady rhythm, as if it were alive, resonating with both their souls.

Jang opened his eyes, a bead of sweat running down his temple as he watched the Core solidify into a translucent sphere. Within it, fragments of his and Hyacinth's memories swirled together, merging into something entirely new a shared experience, a bond that was undeniably theirs.

The core wasn't really there it was in their souls, two separate cores yet the same. It wasn't a material object and it would appear whenever they cultivate.

[You have formed a Unified Spirit Generation Array]

[You have glanced into the Dao of Unification]

[The Love Star has briefly awakened to send a message."Well done, newlyweds! Your journey is just beginning. Keep sharing, growing, and maybe just maybe you'll make this world a little brighter. Oh, and don't forget, Jang: the Dao of Unification is a slow burn, but the rewards? Out of this world."]
