Chapter 28 - Chasing The Bishop!

Kidaya waits on the tree top watching the man and waiting for the Bishop to appear so she can seize them together. If the Bishop was also in town, then it only meant that A was in town too. The Bishop only went where A went. And this was a chance she had been waiting for, and after all these years, it seemed it was finally presenting itself. She had limited time, but she needed the bishop to come before she did anything. The man, Reyes moves back and forth with a small box in his hand. She was still watching the man when suddenly an arrow flew in his direction and got stuck in a tree. The arrow had a paper tied to its tip. The Bishop was here!

But just as the man approached the arrow, from nowhere jumped in a man with a sword who aimed it at Reyes. Damn!

Real Damn because from a distance, they hear a horse come to a halt and immediately turn around to leave.

"Get the Bishop, I'll get this man, the box, and the paper," Kidaya says just as she jumps down from the tree. Immediately, her companion began to jump from tree to tree after the bishop who was getting away on his horse.

When Kidaya jumped down, it caused the intruder to take a few steps backward. Using that opportunity, Reyes wanted to escape but he was immediately stopped by the male intruder's sword which pointed to his neck. Seeing that, Kidaya quickly makes an attempt for the box in Reyes's hand, but another sword from the male intruder stops her.

Is that how you want it? Kidaya questions in her mind as she swirls, unwrapping the sword around her waist, her mother's sword. She and the male intruder get into a fight while also ensuring Reyes does not escape. His carriage and guards stood far away with no idea of what was going on.

"Take the man and give me the box and the paper." The male intruder offers.

Kidaya scoffs. "Seeing that you chased away the Bishop, you should take the man and give me the box and paper."

"You are a woman!" He confirms, both their swords placed by each side of Reye's neck to prevent him from trying to run.

"Does that disappoint you?" Kidaya asks.

"Not at all, just that you must not be from Vianto. Whoever sent you, I am sure will be glad to have the man."

"Then you should have him." She says as they begin to fight again.

Tired of being in the middle of two assassins, Reyes puts his hand into his mouth and whistles, signaling his guards.

"You shouldn't have done that." Kidaya says raising her sword to kill him, but the intruder stops her. Reyes's guards arrive with drawn swords, one each attacking the two of them.

While blocking the sword swings from the guard attacking her, Kidaya pulls out a stopwatch from her pocket and looks at it. She had seven more minutes before Lord Edgare's son would return to that room to check on her. She had to get back. Kidaya sighs.

"As much as I enjoyed your failure, it is time to leave." She says to the guard as she puts the stopwatch back into her pocket. With another sigh, she runs past the guard, slitting his throat in one move. The guard stills and falls down to the ground dead, just about the same time the male intruder also kills the other guard.

Reyes who had run away when his guards came over suddenly walks back towards the scene with a sword by his neck, and another masked person behind him.

"Did you get the Bishop?" Kidaya asks her companion who had caught Reyes.

"Jumped off the cliff."

Sighing, "He will do. Get me the box." Kidaya says wrapping her sword back around her waist and heading for the arrow with a paper. Just as she raises her hand to pull the arrow, the male intruder places his sword by her neck.

"That is mine. Tell your partner to hand over the man and box." He says.

Rolling her eyes, Kidaya in one swift move ducks down and pulls out a smaller knife which she uses to slit the intruder on both wrist, causing his sword to fall off his hand, and she also stabs him by the left side of his stomach. The intruder gasps in pain, going on his knees. Kidaya moves away from him and heads back for the arrow. She pulls it away from the tree and gets the paper. After tucking the paper safely inside her pocket, she then moves back to the intruder and pulls out her knife before walking away. She nods at her companion who hits Reyes by the neck and he falls to the ground unconscious. He gets the box from Reyes and throws it at Kidaya who catches it.

"Good job." She says before turning to the intruder. "He is all yours." She says with a smirk before dashing into the bush and her companion runs towards the nearest tree and climbs it. A few movement in some trees, and he too was lost.

The intruder sighs forcing himself to get up. He tears some pieces off the dead guard's clothes and ties his bleeding wrist with it. He was already feeling dizzy which was strange. It could only mean the lady assassin's blade was poisoned.

"Maybe I should go and check on her." Offered Park. Ralph stops him just as Park was about to take his first step.

"If you please, I'd like to be the one to check on her. Please?"

Nodding, "Alright. It is the fifth room by the left." Park directs. He had met Ralph waiting for him by the end of the hallway after he had escorted the diamond to the room to rest. Vanderburgh had asked about the whereabouts of his sister and Park had to tell him.

Sighing, Ralph heads for the room in slow strides. He had suspected something was fishy when he had seen Kidaya emerge from her room ready for the ball with a gown that covered her feet and hands. Later in the carriage, on their way here, he had finally had a peek at her shoe and realized she wasn't wearing a ball shoe but the one she uses when –

Ralph tries to open the door to the described room but it is locked. Now this confirmed his suspicion.

The girl has sneaked to only the gods know where!
