Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Testing Talents

The tension in the air starts to diminish, but the weight of what just happened still lingers in the back of Allan's mind. The world has changed in such an amazing and unexpected way, so much that it's completely impossible to go back to what it used to be. Monstrous beings are lurking in every corner beyond the cities, technology is unstable and the government is already taking drastic measures to maintain order and peace.

So before dealing with all the outer chaos, Allan felt that they need to know the full extent of their talents, how to activate and how to control them completely. For it is necessary to understand yourself completely before you try to understand the enemy and he did not want to face someone or some monster before understanding the full extent of his capabilities, this also includes his siblings and mother. Since he was someone who enjoyed playing video games and reading novels, he had some ideas of how to deal with things based on novels he read with the similar world settings and some plans for the future based on his talents. After all, he needs to protect his family.

— "Well, for now we need to test our talents."

— Allan spoke in a firm but calm tone.

Alice and Ethan are still processing all that happened, but they agree with their older brother. Helena, the mother, crossed her arms and took a deep breath, recovering her composure.

— "What exactly should we do?" — She asks.

— "Well, first we need to understand the rules of this new world." — Allan looked at his hands, feeling the surging energy, his own body feels stronger than before and his mind sharper. Each of his cells pulsing with great power.

He doesn't know if having 10 talents is something normal or not, so he decided to reveal only 2 of his own talents, but he's still hesitant on which ones to reveal.

He needs to be careful, otherwise if other people know about him and the talents he owns it could become something very dangerous.

After some thinking, he decided upon what he needs to do. He looked towards his siblings and his mother who were waiting for him to speak.

— "I awakened 2 talents, Omniscient Eyes, which allows me to see the flow of power and energy, see the structure of objects and analyze targets, such as people and items, and Martial Domain, that gives me the ability to learn combat and weapon techniques in an extremely fast pace." — He lied without any hesitation.

"It's for the greater good." He tried to convince himself of that.

Both his siblings and his mother agreed, accepting his words without suspecting anything.

— "WOW! that's super cool bro, so you can basically know about the enemies we face even before they attack us." — Ethan was so ecstatic about his brother's talents.

Next up was their mother, Helena closed her eyes for a moment and nothing happened, but then, a golden and soft light radiated from her hands. She looked ate herself surprised.

Alice got close to her, she felt the warm in her hands grabbed it. She was feeling attracted towards the golden, warm and soft light in her mother hands.

Alice sighed as she felt all her tension, stress and fatigue being washed away from her body. Her mother's body was glowing lightly while her talent Healing Touch was active.

— "Mom your hands! This is divine, it feels like being embraced by an angel!" — Alice exclaimed as she was the first to feel the effects of her mother's Healing Touch.

— "On top of that, your other talent is perfect for us, it will boost our overall combat power. Mom your talents are a perfect combination." — Allan added as he thought of what a great combination their talents make.

Helena seemed surprised, but still smiled lightly.

— "Now I can protect and heal you when it's necessary."

— So Alice, it's your turn now! — Ethan said while smirking at her.

— "No way! Always leave the best for last and I'm definitely better than you." — Alice retorted, carrying an air of superiority

— "Hey! Just because you're older than me, it doesn't mean you're better." — Ethan was starting to feel annoyed by Alice answer.

— "Oh brother, you're so naive...Of course I'm better than you." — Alice said while puffing her chest out.

Helena interrupted what was about to become another heated argument between the siblings.

— "Enough, both of you are geniuses in your own fields."

— "Yeah, and there's no point in arguing since both of you have same talent rank, S." — Allan added, since he was not fond of seeing them discussing all the time over every little thing.

— "We what!..." — They both reacted at the same time.

Unexpectedly they actually awakened the same level of talent. This put them both in awe and desbelief in front of such situation.

Ethan sighed, — "Since that's the case, there's no point in delaying it. I awakened something called Creation Genius, it basically allows me to create any kind of weapon or a construct as long as I focus and provide the necessary energy or have the required materials for the creation."

He focused and his hands started glowing, while a translucent object started to take form in his hands, it took about a minute and a half when the object finally was created, a small sword, of less than a meter, made of fine steel and a black hilt, with a simple design, but very sharp and dangerous.

— "Okay. I take back what I said, your talent is definitely something over the top...you're basically a magic scientist, you big weirdo." — Alice made fun of Ethan while at the same time feeling amazed by his talent.

— "Nice, a sword. I'll be taking that." — Allan took the sword from his brother hands, knowing his personality he might just want to try and swing it on a whim.

When Allan touched the sword he started to feel the sword and felt a sense of closeness and he felt the urge to start swinging it, but he suppressed this feeling. It wasn't a good time for it.

— "Well I guess I'm the only one left, it's best if we go outside so I can show you my talent. I bet it will blow out your minds." Alice said it while already opening the kitchen door that led to the courtyard and Allan and the others followed her.

Stepping outside, the sight of what they had seen through the window and the news completely sinked in. Vast and gigantic trees filled the fields and they could be seen from miles away. Their courtyard has changed in a strange yet beautiful way, there were some plants in vases on the corner of the yard, and they had mutated, exuded vibrant colours and some strange glow. The grass was even greener and more beautiful, there was also a fruit tree next to the farthest right corner of the courtyard, it had grown so big and the fruits it bears now has some kind of attractive glow attached to it and it looks way bigger. Allab decided that he would investigate this fruit tree on the next day, for now he wanted to see his sister's talent in action.

Alice stopped a little over one meter of distance from the kitchen door, — I think this distance is enough, can you guys step back just a little bit. Just for caution. — She said with a serious expression.

— "Alright, here I go."

Then she got herself ready, started to focus and raised both her hands. The space around her started to get distorted while it looked like it was being destroyed, the something amazing and frightening happened, this distortion gave birth to a long bow, completely black, with a string entirely made of energy attached to the bow. It felt incredibly dangerous, like as long as anyone other than her touched that weapon, it would consume them.

— "Hey Alice! Are you sure that thing is safe?!" — Ethan looked at the bow with a wary expression, he wanted to touch it, but he felt an aura of death and danger coming from it.

Alice stared intensely at the bow with an admiring gaze.

— "I don't really feel any danger coming from this... It feels more like an extension of myself instead of something external."

Allan observed Alice with the omniscient eyes, his eyes glowing like beautiful stars. He saw the flow of the energy circulating inside Alice body and it amazed him. It was like her body energy was made of dark matter and void energy creating a strange yet unique symbiosis that seemed to work for her, somehow.

— "Well, I think I'm going to shoot one of the mangoes in our courtyard tree, well, if that is still a mango!"

Alice stretched the energy string of the long bow and a void arrow appeared right in the center of the bow. As she realeased the string, the arrow disappeared, as if it entered the void and on the next second the same arrow that disappeared hit the target, a mango on one of the tree branches. The fruit had a hole on it, it was like a piece of it was consumed by the void itself.

— "What exactly is your talent Alice???" — Ethan spoke dumbfounded by what just happened.

— "Nothing big, just something called Void Archer." Alice spoke with a nonchalant smile.

— "It's definitely amazing, all of my children are super amazing." — Helena smiled,

— "Come, let's go back inside."
