Chapter 8 - "Bound by Guilt, Tied by Fate"

Hi guys, how are you all? I hope you're doing well.

Without further delay, let's dive into today's episode.

Shlok was left speechless after hearing Sangeeta Ji's words. With tears streaming down her face, Sangeeta Ji looked at him and said, "Did you even think for a moment about those children? What was their fault in all this? She didn't even know who she was marrying." As she spoke, her tears continued to flow uncontrollably. Shlok remained silent, unable to say a word.

Kaveri Ji and Anuj Ji were also glaring at Shlok with anger. Even though they didn't say anything, after finding out that Shlok was responsible for Ibadat's current state, their rage was evident. Anuj Ji took an angry step toward Shlok, but Kaveri Ji caught his hand and shook her head in disapproval. Seeing this, Anuj Ji softly asked, "Why are you crying, Kaveri?"

Wiping her tears, Kaveri Ji turned to look at the Goenka family and said, "We have nothing to do with any of them. Once Ibadat recovers, we'll take her away from here. These people have destroyed my daughter's life. After taking someone's happiness, they will never find peace. Never."

Everyone turned to look at Kaveri Ji after her harsh words. Sangeeta Ji's eyes were filled with tears. She looked at Shlok and said, "Today, I am questioning my upbringing. One of my sons abandoned an innocent girl, ruining her life. And now, my other son has reduced her to the state of a lifeless body lying on a hospital bed." Saying this, Sangeeta Ji fell to her knees, sobbing uncontrollably.

Watching his mother collapse like that, Shlok, who had never been affected by anyone's tears before, felt a sharp pain in his heart. He dropped to his knees in front of her and said in a voice filled with pain, "Please, Mom, don't say that. It hurts me to see you like this."

Hearing Shlok's words, Sangeeta Ji gave a painful smile and said, "You feel hurt just by seeing me cry? Look at that mother whose only daughter is fighting between life and death right now because of you. What was her fault that you left her out in the freezing cold? Do you even know what her condition was when we found her?"

Sangeeta Ji's words made the events of last night replay in Shlok's mind. In his drunken state, he had completely forgotten that he had left Ibadat out on the balcony all night in the biting cold of January, without even a blanket. The memory hit him like a sharp dagger, and for the first time, he realized the gravity of his actions. No matter how much he hated Ibadat, he had no right to treat her life so carelessly.

Seeing Shlok lost in his thoughts, Sangeeta Ji wiped her tears and said coldly, "Get out of my sight. Don't try to act like you care. There's no place for false sympathy here." With that, she wiped away her tears firmly.

Hearing her harsh words, Shlok looked at her and whispered, "Mom..."

But before he could say anything further, Sangeeta Ji pulled her hand away angrily and said, "Don't call me Mom. Both my sons are dead to me. People who make a mockery of others' lives have no place in my heart. None at all." Turning her face away from him, she closed the conversation.

Hearing such words from his mother pierced Shlok deeper than anything else ever had. He approached her again, held her hand, and pressed it against his forehead, saying in a trembling voice, "I'm sorry, Mom. I'll do whatever you say, but please, don't say such things to me. Please, Mom, I won't be able to handle it."

Shlok was already struggling to cope with Esha's harsh words from earlier. Now, hearing such painful words from his mother only broke him further.

Seeing his state, Sangeeta Ji wiped her tears, looked at him with a stern expression, and said, "If you truly want my forgiveness, you'll have to make things right. Ibadat is in this condition because of you. Until she recovers, you must take care of her."

Hearing Sangeeta Ji's words, Shlok stared at her in shock. He was about to say something when Kaveri Ji interjected angrily, "There's no need for that. As soon as our daughter recovers, we'll take her back home. We won't force her to stay in this sham of a marriage."

Before Shlok could respond, Vishambhar Ji, who had been silently observing until now, raised his voice in anger and said, "Absolutely not! She is the daughter-in-law of the Goenka family. She is our family's honor now, and she will return to our home, not yours."

Hearing Vishambhar Ji's words, Kaveri Ji snapped, "This marriage is a lie! Our daughter was supposed to marry your younger grandson, but your elder grandson stepped in, and you didn't even bother to inform anyone about it. We won't let our daughter stay in this deceitful relationship."

Vishambhar Ji's face turned red with anger as he shouted, "I said she is our daughter-in-law, and she will come back to our house!"

Before Kaveri Ji could respond further, Anuj Ji stepped forward and gently placed a hand on her shoulder to calm her down. "Kaveri, calm down," he said. "We'll stay quiet until Ibadat regains consciousness. Once she recovers, we'll do whatever she decides."

Kaveri Ji looked at Anuj Ji with tear-filled eyes and, unable to hold back her emotions, broke down and hugged him tightly. Sobbing uncontrollably, she cried, "Our Ibadat was so happy about her wedding. We never imagined that the very next day, we'd find her lifeless on a hospital bed like this." She wept like a child, her heart breaking with every tear.

Anuj Ji, trying to hold himself together, gently attempted to calm Kaveri Ji. Meanwhile, Shlok stood frozen in place, like a statue, silent and unmoving after hearing Sangeeta Ji's words.

A few moments later, the doctor emerged from the emergency ward. Shlok remained where he was, still mute. Sangeeta Ji had walked away by then. The moment the doctor stepped out, Arjun Ji, Sangeeta Ji, Kaveri Ji, and Anuj Ji rushed toward him, panic evident in their expressions.

"Doctor, how is our daughter now?" they asked anxiously.

The doctor looked at Sangeeta Ji and the rest of the family and said, "The patient is stable for now, but she hasn't regained consciousness yet. It will take time. Until she wakes up, we can't say much. Her body temperature had dropped significantly. If you had brought her any later, the situation could have been much worse."

With that, the doctor finished speaking and walked away, leaving a heavy silence in his wake. Hearing his words, Kaveri Ji looked at Anuj Ji with tear-filled eyes. Memories of Ibadat from her childhood to now flooded her mind—how they had always kept her safe, not even letting her touch a rabbit for fear she might get hurt. They had cherished her like a fragile doll, protecting her from the smallest of harm.

She had trusted Saransh, believed in his grand promises, and placed Ibadat's hand in his. But what had they gotten in return? Today, their innocent daughter was lying on a hospital bed the day after her wedding, barely clinging to life.

Wiping her tears, Kaveri Ji folded her hands in front of Sangeeta Ji and said, "I don't have the words to express my pain. You people have made a mockery of my daughter's life. Without telling us, you married your daughter to your other son. And your other son..."

Her voice trembled with fury and disdain as she turned to Shlok, her eyes burning with anger. "He doesn't even have a shred of humanity in him. Both your sons are despicable."

Wiping her tears, Sangeeta Ji looked at Vishambhar Ji and said, "For you, the honor of your family might matter, but for us, our Ibadat is all that matters. We will not leave our daughter in a family where there are no humans, only devils. Besides, she loved your younger grandson, who doesn't deserve love or even hatred. We want to move forward and forget everything that has happened. The moment our Ibadat recovers, we'll take her away from here. There weren't many people at the wedding, and whatever was there, it ends here."

Hearing Kaveri Ji's words, Sangeeta Ji opened her mouth to respond but stopped when her eyes fell on Shlok, who stood silently in a corner. Seeing him like that made fresh tears roll down her cheeks.

Anuj Ji, standing beside Kaveri Ji, found it impossible to trust the Goenka family anymore. How could he trust a family that had reduced his daughter to such a state in just one day?

Vishambhar Ji stayed silent, though his gaze hardened as he stared at Kaveri Ji. For once, even he had no words to offer.

Shlok, still rooted in his place, glanced at his family. His eyes stopped on his mother, who was sitting in a corner on a chair, crying quietly. Unable to bear it, he walked over to her and knelt at her feet. Taking both her hands in his, he said, "I'll do whatever you say, Mom. Anything."

Hearing this, Sangeeta Ji's voice broke as she replied, "There's nothing left for you to do, Shlok. After what you've done to Ibadat, neither her parents nor she herself would want to stay with you."

Tears streamed down her face as she spoke, her voice heavy with disappointment.

Shlok looked up at her, pain etched into his features, and said, "Mom, please don't say that. I'll apologize to her. I'll do everything I can to make things right. But I won't let her leave. I promise, Mom, I won't."

Hearing Shlok's words, a flicker of hope appeared in Sangeeta Ji's eyes. She looked at him and asked, "Are you telling the truth?"

Seeing that glimmer in his mother's eyes, Shlok nodded and gently kissed her hand.

The entire day had passed, yet Ibadat still hadn't regained consciousness. Now, only Arjun Ji, Sangeeta Ji, Shlok, and Ibadat's parents were present in the hospital. Shlok's uncle, Vishambhar Ji, had left with the rest of the family. More than five hours had gone by, but there were no signs of Ibadat waking up. Kaveri Ji's condition had worsened as well—her blood pressure had dropped significantly, so Anuj Ji had admitted her to a room nearby. At the moment, he was sitting with her in the ward.

Sangeeta Ji was resting her head on Arjun Ji's shoulder, while Shlok stood outside the emergency ward, lost in deep thought. His face betrayed no clear emotion, making it hard to discern what he was thinking.

As he stood there, he suddenly felt as though something had broken. He quickly opened the door and looked inside, his eyes immediately landing on Ibadat. She was lying on the bed, her hand moving slightly, and something on the table near her hand had fallen to the floor and broken. The sound wasn't loud, so no one else had noticed it except for Shlok, who was standing near the emergency ward.

Seeing that Ibadat was regaining consciousness, he rushed to her side. As he reached her, he noticed that she was trying to open her eyes. Her once-beautiful face now looked pale and lifeless. Shlok's face displayed a strange expression one that seemed to carry guilt. Though he had never liked Ibadat, he had never intended to hurt her in such a way.

Moving closer to her, he gently held her arm and, in a low voice, said, "Let me help you."

As soon as Shlok's voice reached Ibadat's ears, she opened her eyes and looked at him. The moment her gaze fell on Shlok, panic spread across her face, and her breathing grew rapid. Noticing her fear, Shlok immediately pulled her into his arms and held her tightly against his chest. Like soothing a frightened child, he gently stroked her back and said softly, "Calm down, it's okay. Nothing happened. I won't do anything... nothing at all." His hand moved tenderly over her head as he spoke.

Ibadat, unable to process her thoughts properly, was overwhelmed by memories of Shlok. The way he had spoken harshly to her, pushed her, and thrown her out of the room—all of it flashed in her mind. But when she realized that Shlok was now behaving gently, calming her instead of hurting her, she slowly began to relax. Even so, her small frame continued trembling.

Shlok cupped her face gently in his hands and asked in a soft voice, "Are you okay?"

Ibadat, still scared, gave a hesitant nod. She didn't say a word—maybe because of the weakness that drained her.

Looking into her eyes, Shlok said, "Listen, I'm really sorry for everything that happened. I didn't do anything intentionally." His voice was filled with regret. Then, without waiting for a response, he pulled her into a firm embrace, his arms wrapping around her protectively. He continued to stroke her back, trying to calm her down as her trembling grew worse at his apology.

At that moment, a nurse entered the room to check on Ibadat. But as soon as she saw Shlok holding Ibadat in his arms, she quietly stepped out of the room.

The nurse approached Arjun Ji and Sangeeta Ji outside and said, "The patient has regained consciousness."

The moment Sangeeta Ji heard this, a glimmer of hope appeared in her eyes. The nurse left to inform Kaveri Ji and Anuj Ji that Ibadat had regained consciousness. Sangeeta Ji and Arjun Ji rushed into the ward.

As soon as they entered, they saw Shlok holding Ibadat upright with one hand while helping her drink water with the other. Ibadat was so weak that she couldn't even hold the glass herself.

Seeing this, Sangeeta Ji's face showed an expression of surprise. She thought to herself, "Is Shlok doing all this just for our sake, or is he truly feeling guilty?" Her eyes shifted to Shlok, who was carefully tending to Ibadat, his movements filled with an unusual tenderness. It was as though he genuinely cared for her well-being.

For now, that's it! Bye-bye!
